Just curious if anyone knows if NMA and the Sisters of Mercy ever shared a bill back in’t day?
-
There is a YouTube video of Justin singing with them if memory serves.
-
a quick google suggests they did,

Huddersfield, town Hall 14. October 1984 is another one.
Eldritch joined JS on bass at a Hamburg gig in the 90s, too.

I never knew that. Love the Sisters. They have a great sound and some really classic songs.
-
Huge fan of The Sisters here as well.
When mentioning NMA to the uninitiated I've often heard folks think that they're a goth band. :o I mean, NMA have drifted into many musical genres over the years but I can't think of a single tune that you'd describe as goth-y...

Nma and goth … maybe an interesting new playground … why not?
-
They've always been popular with parts of the goth crowd though. They've played the M'Era Luna festival in Germany which is pure goth. It's probably those throbbing baselines of their early stuff.

NMA cross many many genres that's for sure, Folk, metal, punk, post punk etc but when I first got into them in 1985 I knew them as one of "the" goth bands, mainly in their image ( leather, long dyed hair, jewelley etc), there audience was uber goth in those days also, the ghost dancing, the backcombed hair, and the smell of patchouli! there was the famous feud with the Mission fans also. The Gothic rock thing is less obvious musically but Justin's Low voice and the heavily chorused/delayed Bass and guitar in the early days are def so, i can hear the it even now though in songs like Ocean rising ( temple of love?) Aimless desire and One of the chosen even though their general sound has moved away from this into something more classic.
