Title: "Hope" album release - Sophie Lancaster Foundation
Post by: Viv Savage on May 23, 2010, 11:59:49 AM
Sophie Lancaster was tragically killed in August 2007 because she looked "different" and the Sophie Lancaster Foundation are working to bring about change, through workshops in schools and a campaign for an amendment to the UK Hate Crimes laws. A compilation album, "Hope", has been released on 22nd May 2010, co-inciding with World Goth Day, featuring tracks from New Model Army and Joolz to raise money for the charity Sophie Lancaster Foundation. All the artists featured have given their music for free, with some songs being written especially for the album.

“Hope” has been put together as a download only release with the sole intention of raising the maximum amount of money possible, with 100% of the price paid going directly to the charity.

Tracklist:
Joolz - The Prophet of Calgary
Andi Sex Gang - Salamun Child
Autumn Cannibals - Monument to Shame *
Gene Loves Jezebel - Who Wants To Go To Heaven?
The Eden House - All My Love
Collide - Euphoria
Alien Sex Fiend - Gotta Have It (Sliced and Diced mix)
Andi Sex Gang & Marc Almond - The Hungry Years
UK Decay - Battle of the Elements (club mix) **
The Last Dance - Cages
Anne Marie Hurst - I Have Changed **
New Model Army - Dawn
The Mission - She's Gone Away **
Uninvited Guest - Death of an Angel *
Faith and the Muse - To Be Continued

*   = Tracks written especially for the campaign
** = Previously unreleased (at the time of this release)

What a lovely thing to do. A rare treat to have both the Army and Marc Almond in one place!
After JS dedicated Bodmin Pill to Sophie Lancaster at the Whitby Goth Weekend it seemed appropriate to use that track for my vodcast on prejudice based on looks & lifestyle to use with my Y10 class.
The link to it on my YouTube is below.

There's also lots of other Army based stuff there that I use in my lessons if anyone is interested.

Nice video, Gayle, such a good way to get the message across. What do your students think of the Army music or have they not really commented?

Hell yeah! They're teenagers....they comment on EVERYthing! But then to be fair I encourage that. Quite a few of them enjoy the music as much as the vids, especially when I match up the lyrics like with this one and the 'turn away' one for example. One of my y11 girls has been investigating the Army since I first used army stuff in lessons and recognises some things instantly (like when I used the cover of 'here comes the war' for some reading images work with the name removed she got it straight away.
I will subliminally convert them to stop listening to car alarm music and have some taste if I can.... Don't really want them at gigs though - I like to be Gayle and not Miss in my social time!
Thanks for the compliment though. It can be a bit nerve wracking to take something so loved as this music and put 'an interpretation' on it then ask other people who also love it to have a look. I hope I've done them proud.

I loved your video, and not just because of the Bodmin Pill backing track. I found it very humbling.
I couldn't do what you do - all power to you.

 >:(I read about this issue a few years ago I was so full of rage I could not believe
I worked in conflict areas (after studying at Bradford s peace studies department) in places where things are really fucked up and when I read that a bunch if assholes still a life for no reasons (still for sure for me there are no goodd reasons to kill ) I really cannot believe it. Or I think that these poor bastards are so unlucky not to be aware of what is going on all around them.
great idea the compilation and love to Sophie forever.

:) many thanks. It is several years since I made that now and it seems a bit dated in the style. I still use it, though....  ;)

Hi
I know there is a lot of shit going on in this world and as an activist I get  alot of info and i spread them. One would not know where to start from the refugees in your city or town to the war in sirya etc where an impressive number of people got killed and so forth could go on forever. But still this death I cannot accept it.  >:(It is so absurd that even today I can t believe it. My instinct say get the bastards...........but education and prevention are much more important for sure.
I will get the soli compilation if I find it.
cheers
Siimon

Not really a bump, maybe a friendly nudge?

The album doesn't seem to be around but the foundation is. I'm sure they would appreciate any support if it's something that chimes with you.
