I see for the Istanbul show there are 2 classes of tickets...my first inclination is buy the best i.e. most expensive ones, but I realize that could actually be some sort of VIP box/table or some such farther from the stage and floor festivities, and that would be bad...So can anyTurkish fans shed light on that?
edit:looking at the Ankara show it is actually listed as VIP vs. regular, so I'm pretty sure I want the regular tickets....Who needs a table at an Army show?
also any recommends on hotels close to venues in both cities would be also greatly appreciated.

This sounds like you and Dev Ra are going! HurraH!

What are you doing on the Saturday? Thinking of another evening in Istanbul :D
-
Thursday and Friday all booked. Now, just to decide what to do on the Saturday. Stay in Ankara or back to Istanbul?
-
We're having another evening in Ankara! :D :D
Go on you know it makes sense, and we need another beer monkey! ;-)
-
last year I put in for a raffle and won a RT ticket from Chisinau to Istanbul, that I have to use by the 8th of December, so still checking if that means I have to leave Moldova by the 8th or return home by the 8th...that's what will determine if we are staying on in Ankara another night or heading back to Istanbul, possibly after the show-that would be a real drag...
-
I see VIP section on the site but that place called Jolly Joker is not that big and this bloody VIP thing doesn't work there. Or till the 'Here comes the war' it works and later we would win the fight against them Very Important Bastards ! Go for normal tickets better.
-
Thanks Sinan
-
Pretty pricey but it's a decent venue for a change. By the way on the biletix (ticketmaster really) site it says -in English- both venues are standing room only.
Servet düşmanlığı yapmayalım Sinan :D

Tickets for the plane (MD-TKY) and gigs all bought....How are you guys going between the cities....I was looking at the bus/train combo but Turkish Air is offering 100USD RT (Ist-Ank-Ist)tix right now, so looks like that's the way to go....
-
Billy.. The plane ride looks like a deal but the airport in Ankara is kind of way outside the city. If you add up the hours you have to be there early etc (especially if using bus transport) it's much better to hop on an overnight express bus from one of the better companies. I recommend Ulusoy. Istanbul and Ankara are connected by one of the best motorways in the country. It takes 5.5 hrs to get there. Ulusoy express coach even serves dinner on board. There are 3 seats per aisle, 2 together 1 solo. Internet and everything. It's a treat.
By the way. If I go, I might drive :D

Hi Billy, we've gone for the flight option.
We got it for about 19 €uro return from Istanbul but there's still flights available for abot 30 €uro.

FYI, SAW (Sabiha Gökçen Airport) is about 50 km outside the city on the Anatolian side.
-
Still not sorted out whether to return on the Sat or Sun to Istanbul. I flew from SAW last time and don't recall it being too much of a problem to get to. Should be cheap if we all get in a taxi.
Dave - what time flight are you book on from Ist?

hola,
Sinan, Oktay, Dave, Steve, Billy & whoever else is comin (guess Julie, Deeva and WBeard from what I've read)
Where will be the Efes served in Istanbul? :)
me and me lady will definetely join. Got to be there since the world will be ending 2 weeks later.
Tickets bought. Room booked in Chillout Cengo, which seems close enough to both venue and transport for a fair price.
No ankara though... gotta be back to work.
See you there, guys! :)
-
Hey manimal. I'm sure some place will be decided once the date is a bit nearer. Although I am in istanbul, I am not really in touch with the local fans. There was a small tight group which I joined for drinks when I used to visit from USA. They are probably still here. :)
-
It's cool you're comin Manny.....We booked into some sort of mid-range hotel real close to the venue....Goggle maps says 5 min walk...MD, we wound up going the flight route but since I was up against it for time we are on Turkish Air flying into Esenboga airport, closer tha the other one and got 'em for a bit less than the 100USD I thought..... Yes we'll definietly pick some place close to venue for piva before the show....

Just checking that everyone knows that they need to purchase a visa before going through passport control.
Visa on arrival is the easiest, put your £10.00 in your (UK) passport and go to the visa desk. They will put a stamp into your passport and then you go to passport control
make sure you have the exact amount...
All fees here

Thanks for the reminder. It's been a while since I was in Turkey and I'd forgotten about this.

Seems the Gods are watching over me for once, just got confirmation that I will be working in Ankara next week, flight, hotel, meals and beer paid for by the company and a free night to go see the boys again at the Jolly Joker - ticket already purchased! The James Cook is a decent place to drink and only 5 mins walk away I believe - I'll be there 7ish to get me started... :)
-
So are we officially calling it for the James Cook?.... We leave for Turkey Wednesday morning and who knows what internet access will be like when it all breaks loose on Thursday...Speaking of which, anyone know a spot for Istanbul?
-
I have a spare ticket for Istanbul. If anyone wants it for face value (50 TL as I remember) please send me a PM.
-
We're having another evening in Ankara! :D :D
Go on you know it makes sense, and we need another beer monkey! ;-)
If you decide to stay in Ankara, you should all visit the recently renovated old district (Hamamonu, The Citadel and Ulucanlar Museum.) Most of them are 100+ years old, small structures. There are also arts streets in those places. The stores are ran by locals or by artists. These places are quiet, clean and friendly.
See you all on December 7th in Ankara.
-
As I said James Cook is good for me, I'll be there, Ankara is a great place, citadel is worth seeing, lots of local crafts on sale for pennies although I have to confess I have only been up there in the summer and they're forecasting snow for weekend, ditto lots of bars all open in summer don't know about winter. Anyway as I said before I'll be in James cook 6ish with Ramones 74 shirt on, say hello - if you're obviously army I might just come and talk to you!! ;)

It looks like you already know the city. Me and my friends are a bit "old" in age (most of us have been following NMA since mid 80s) but I guess I may consider myself as part of the army in heart :) Hoping to see you all at the concert and I wish a safe trip for those of you who will travel from different cities and countries.
-
Thanks for the welcome, A great time was had by all last night I think!! We're all Army at heart no matter what the age ;)
