Booked in for November 09th. Gonna have the whole album front cover on my back. It's only £280 and 4-5 hrs work so not a huge tattoo but one nonetheless.
Bring on the pain!!!!!
I hope i don't get done for copyright theft or something similar. Maybe someone can advise??????

If you want an NMA tattoo mate, there's no-one better than Joolz.....it's her artwork...and I can't recommend her highly enough....her tattoos are outstanding, she's incredibly welcoming and makes the whole experience really special....not to mention a nice cuppa or two. Check out Joolz's website mate....I've had 2 NMA tattoos from her and am over the moon with them both.

Tattoo pain never bothered me ruckedout , cuz that only last as long as its being done. I have always been more bothered by the days on end of itching afterwards. You really want to scratch that mother, but if you do, you can pull ink out with scabbing . :o
One good tip I recently got, a tattoo will loose ink and some colour while healing. When you wash it, which you should do several times a day, when washed, splash it with cold water several times, this will close the skin pours , helping to keep the ink locked under the dermis while healing.

I have had 63 hours of ink work over the years, and tried several healing strategies, many of which resulted in the need for touch ups, until I found a great tattooist who gave me advice that I now regard as definitive due to its brilliant results.
When the tattoo is fresh, wrap it in clingfilm and tape it airtight. From then on, leave it alone, and change the the clingfilm every 8-12 hours. At this point, the inked skin will be 'slimy'. Gently wash the skin with unperfumed soap, by hand, using tepid water until the 'slime' is gone. Pat it dry with a clean towel, and apply new clean clingfilm.
During this period, keep tat covered during baths/showers, and treat it as a seperate entity to the rest of your body, not allowing it to soak or stay wet for any length of time.
Repeat this process until the tat is no longer slimy upon removal of clingfilm (48-72 hours is normal).
From here on in, no cover is required. Merely moisturise every 4 hours. Ideally tattoo goo, or other bespoke product. Never savlon or germoline or medicated ointments. E45 or even vaseline will work fine. Thin amount, gently applied.
If you do this, scabbing will be very light, and will slough off naturaly as you continue to moisturise over 8-10 days.
Once the scabbing is gone, continue to moisturise morning and night, until the new skin loses its 'tight and shiny' appearance, and you will be left with a vibrant, settled tattoo.

Last year i had the 30th anniversary artwork on my right shoulder.....my first one! It was only a small one from a local tattooist - not much imagination went into it as it was an exact copy of the album cover - but it turned out alright.
I got the work done and a couple of weeks later went to Nottingham and whilst in the pit someone managed to scratch their nail right the way through it and down my back (someone needs to cut their nails next time). It looked i had gone back onto the rugby field and someone had stamped on me.
Thankfully you can't see any real damage (to my untrained eye anyway).
Sounds like Impuri-D has some sound after healing tips which i will follow... many thanks!

The strategy for healing I suggest is centred around protocols used for burn victims as it prevents infection and minimises keloid scar tissue formation and speeds new skin generation.
Tattooing causes a great deal of trauma to the surface tissue, and taking the same approach really works very well.

Impurdi-D'S advice is the gold standard advice i think all good tattoo artist tell their peeps and the one i followed but never worked too well for me, i'd get some ink leeching from this method.
we all have different skin and Ph balances and brain/spinal chems running through us so like the mind not 1 solution for the masses can ever work.
keep in mind 2 things, most of my tats are on my legs and im a distance runner and its thought by my artist and her peers (shes also a distance runner) that how may muscles and tissues/cells in my legs use blood and oxygen
blagh blagh my cause my body to react different, point to that is if you use a certain part of your body in specific way it may alter how it heals as compared to another part of person all together. (sheets some much quicker to get through in person lol)
so i follow what Impuri-D does except after the first slime wash i do not replace the plastic wrap on my skin, and then i do not apply any lotion to the tattoo at all period. i use the proper lotion for tats and or A/D ointment (which is said by all pro tat artist ive talked to to be the only stuff to use really) but for some reason that stage not matter what i use can cause ink to leech out of my skin ....

OH guys it was my dream to have a Joolz tattoo they are so amazing...............but from Berlin it gets a bit expensive and now with baby Maya is even more difficult to move. maya I can try to organise a family trip in Bradford. Anyway my wife lived there for years (university studies) and I did too (same studies but only one year) and there I met Joolz and Justin a few times ..........so feels like home. But need some logistics and planning that is for sure. Without mentioning that Joolz is always super booked.

My tattooist recommends Bepanthen nappy rash cream on tattoos. It seems to do the job too.

Bepanthen is what I used also. It does the job, and it is cheap stuff.
As important as the after care of the tatt to maintain colour during healing and reduce the amount of any touching up afterwards is the quality of the work of the tattooist.
A good tattooist is not just a good artist. Tatt with the needle too deep or too shallow will effect the quality of the finished tattoo. You can also put in too much ink when shading in, or not enough, all of which will effect the finished tatt that may need touching up later.
ruckedout, I don"t want to rain on your parade, booked to have the tattoo done this Saturday, but if you are having NMA art work done, why not go to Joolz? After all the new album art was a Joolz tattoo before is was the album cover !!
I know when you start to add time off work, travelling to Bradford etc, it starts to add up, but you are going to keep it for life.
As far as I know, it is a unique situation we have here where you can have sleeve cover art work of a band tattooed onto you by the actual artist who drew it in the first place.
My pal Barty has had two done by Joolz, and both are perfect work as you would expect, and both were done propperly, and needed no aditional work.

I recently had the Thunderbird from the Knievel page in the album booklet tattooed by Joolz, it looks beautiful and I think it makes it extra special that the album artwork and tattoo are done by the same person. I highly recommend Joolz studio, it's immaculately clean but cozy too and you get the added bonus of seeing lots of original NMA artwork on the walls. Joolz is extremely helpful and welcoming throughout the process, from deciding what and where, to tattooing, explaining the process and healing extremely well.

Matt, tatt regret, or it looks bigger than I thought it would, all standard feelings. I remember you were unsure about your first tatt, which is actually a bloody good un. Judge it after it has healed, by then you will remember why you wanted it in the first place :)
