I've only been to The London Forum once, about five years ago, it's in Kentish Town and me and my mate struggled to find a decent pub...

No matter.  Camden is just down the road and there are so many cracking pubs there... huwcamden, any advice?

Wish I could make it to that one...

I was gonna post about it a bit nearer the date, but while we're here...

The last couple of Forum gigs the majority of people met at the Assembly House, just outside Kentish Town station (same side of the road) and practically opposite the venue, and that's the one I'd personally suggest.

It is worth noting that the old Bull & Gate (the pub literally next to the Forum), which used to be another standard meet-up point has now shut... or if it has reopened (not been around there for a while) it's now probably some sort of poncey wine-bar/gastro-pub (this is what somebody said it was gonna turn into anyway), so basically the only pub that's proper near the venue is the aforementioned Assembly House.

Then of course there are some other, slightly further away pubs, and like other people mentioned Camden is only a 10/15 min walk.

But is there still a Devonshire Arms in Camden? It was 13 years ago last time I visited London twice. After the Milton Keynes' "Across the Decades" festival there were lots of punks swarming around. I even met the Scarred For Life guys from States who were touring europe at the same time.

Well, one might expect that the nearest pub is the preferred choice for family. And it would be nice to meet/see all you there. And Stoney...  8)

Ahhh, only two weeks left!

The best meeting place i would suggest master ray is the devonshire arms in camden(kentish town rd opp the back of sainsburys) it is camdens oldest and truest goth/punk/metal bar and still has nma posters on the ceiling! if 10 mins walk from the forum is to far for anyone the assembly rooms is diagonally opposite the forum and does some good beers.

I'm pretty sure the Dev is still there (with NMA posters and everything), or a least it was the last time I walked past, a couple of months ago. Though I think it's called something else these days. The Hobgoblin?

Yep, it's been called the Hobgoblin for a few years now - haven't really been there for a long time (last time I actually remember being there was before one of the two 30th anniversary gigs). Not too sure how I feel about the place personally, to be honest - I spent literally years there from about 95 to 05ish but then I grew out of it (pretty much as I grew out/tired with Camden as a whole).

As it has been said, however, it is only 10-15 min walk from the Forum so I suppose it's a possibility. Myself, unless I go to Upton Park (unlikely cos thanks to sky the match is now a 5.30 K.O., which means it would be a bit tight) I'll probly look for a pub that shows the footy first, and then from there I'll go to the Assembly House, which is quite nice and normally has good beers.

Its defo gone back to the "the devonshire" i frequent most weeks and has  a good vibe again similar to when janine and robin the old uber goths run it,  they play alot of metal there now and alot of the local biker gangs still hang out there, im going there before nma for sure but 2000 people can make there choices, the hawley arms is good too if not a bit trendy and kentish town has lots of good but slightly bland pubs, the assembly is prob the best and closest if you dont fancy exploring the area.

Yep, beer-wise the Hawley Arms and Quinns (although I haven't been in the latter for quite some time so it might have changed for all I know) are my favourite pubs in Camden. Kentish Town other than the Assembly House the only other I can think of is the Grafton Arms near Kentish Town West overland station (I forget the name of the road). Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against the Dev per se and I'm not trying to drive people away from it, in fact I might pop in for a drink myself for old times sake, on the way to Kentish Town.

I guess it'll depend on what time we get back from Brighton and most importantly whether I decide I have time to squeeze in the football (like I said, unlikely) or not.

My vote is for ann early beer or three in the Bree Louise in Euston (top top pub if you like real ale / cider + it does decent pub food) and it has TVs for Danny if you want to see your mob lose another game. Its a 20 minute walk (or 2-3 Tube stops)  from there to Kentish Town so would suggest that a migration to the more local pubs occurs an hour or so before the gig.

Oi Kev! Sounds like a bit of a case of sour grapes to me, need I remind you the score the last time our respective teams met at White Hart Lane? (that said you're probably right, they're gonna trounce us) ;)

Bree Louise is indeed a very good pub, though a bit further even compared to Camden. Like I said it's very unlikely that I'll have time to go to Upton Park (though I haven't given up on the thought yet), so it's very possible I'll see you in there :)

Ha ha I just new that was coming  :D we'll be getting our own back in the league cup though I am confident.  See your boys snatched defeat from the jaws of victory this afternoon again ;D

Will get in touch nearer the time re a meet up but will see you in brighton the night before and maybe earlier in the week if you are doing any of the earlier dates.

Well, whatever the pub is we`re all gonna be on behalf of it. All the choices sound good! And last but not least - you make the choice - there's gonna be lots of people everywhere around the globe. ;)

Will get in touch nearer the time re a meet up but will see you in brighton the night before and [...]

Brighton meet up would be also something we should think about.

Yep, managing to revive hopeless teams and magically conjuring up defeats where it's almost physically impossible to do so have always been West Ham qualities...

I was gonna do Cambridge but unfortunately I'm now gonna be away for work so can't make it - but I'll be in Brighton so I'll see you there :)

On this note - yeah, anyone care to suggest a meet-up for Brighton?

If you like to do aftershows Most pubs in camden are open untill 1am and the dublin castle on the parkway untill 2.30am, fuzz the old guitarist from silverfish( london female fronted 90's grunge legends) does a djay set most sats, he plays a nice eclectic mix but it is all good and mostly alternative and heavy, otherwise the slimelight is still going strong 35 years later if you can still take clubbing(and drugs!), its in angel and open all night!

Sensible: Assembly Rooms other side of road. Or Bull and Gate.
 I'd go with Assembly Rooms...

Don't be mucking about with "oooh but there was a pub in Camden back in the day..." etc. It never works out.

See you all in: the Assembly Rooms, or outside havin' a smoke!

 ;D

Notts: It's usuall the Tap n Tumbler on Wollaton Street.

Anyone wanna reinvent the wheel? xxx

I shall definitely be in the Bree Louise at some point as i'm stopping very close by,not a huge pub but a great pub,i would imagine I shall pop in the Euston flyer also...

Title: Re: london gig - ATTENTION
Post by: Danny on November 18, 2013, 01:30:03 PM
As I've posted in the other thread (the one titled Forum gig) - Attention non-London (as well as London) people: there is NO Northern Line this Saturday, due to the usual perfect timing by TFL in the choice of which lines to shut down.

As a result, to get to the Forum you need to take a train to Kentish Town rail station (next to the tube station, so by far the nearest to the venue) from St. Pancras International (there should be plenty but check times) or the Overground line (orange on the maps) to Kentish Town West (slightly further away); you can get this from Highbury & Islington, on the Victoria (light blue) line.
Those of you who were thinking of going to Camden first can do so by getting off at Camden Road, one stop before Kentish Town West on the Overground Line. Those (most likely including me) who want to start in the Bree Louise may also want to bear this in mind, cos it won't be possible to take the tube up so it might be necessary to leave the pub in good time to walk/bus it up to Kentish Town.

See you all Sat

Another travel option for those who were planning on using the tube is to get the Piccadilly line to Caledonian Road, and walk from there. Should be about 20-25 mins walk.

Personally, I would say definitely the Assembly House (or Rooms? I never remember how it's actually called) from 7ish to when we go in... before that I don't know; I understand a few people are gonna be in the Bree Louise in Euston - for me it's probably subordinated to whether there is a telly to watch the footy or not. I was planning on having a chat with people tomorrow night in Brighton and see. What time you planning on getting down for? I'm sure somebody can text you and let you know where we are, depending on that.

Its Assembly House 292 Kentish town road,NW5 2TG,according to my "Guide to real ale in Camden and Euston"......and is described as"the interior being exceptionally large, food all day weekends",see you Saturday.

Yep, Assembly House it is, and like I said I'll probably get there 7ish. Before then - subject to chatting to people tonight - I'm thinking Quinns in Camden (on Kentish Town road but nearest stop would be Camden Road Overground/Camden Town tube).

Nothing against the Bree Louise but the fact there is no tube puts me off a bit - it's at least 25 min walk to Kentish Town from there (or you have to rely on the notoriously unreliable buses), which would eat into valuable drinking time ;) Quinns on the other hand is less than 10 min walk from the venue (and consequently the Assembly House), it has a few real ales (and for those who like them, quite an impressive array of bottled European beers), and a TV for those of the football-inclined persuasion ;) They might even do food, although I'm not too sure of this. They certainly do in the Assembly House, however.

See some of you later anyway, and we can discuss matters further :)
