Greystoke, the legend of Tarzan. A more realistic take on the Tarzan story. Good film.
Just watching The Magnificent Seven
Once Upon A Time In The Midlands. Not Shane Meadows best film IMO, but its fun recognising so many places in Notts.
Just picked up a complete box set of 'The Comic Strip Presents...', utterly quintessential Channel 4 comedy from the 80's / 90's...My fave was "A fistfull of travellers cheques",still quote many of the lines,"everybody loves The Eagles"etc
OK, I automatically went to the ones I remember most, ie the 'Bad News' and 'Five Go..' ones, but just watched 'The Bullshitters', which was great.
Any of you got any opinions on where I should go to next?
As for films, I checked out 'Sightseers' on Film4 the other night, which I really liked... from the director of 'The Kill List' my favourite horror movie of the past few years, Ben Wheatley (who is also directing the first two episodes of the next Doctor Who series... looking forward to that!)

firefly?
is it as good as people say? where does it fit in?
by the way, I don't do spoilers. if I know what's going to happen then I tend to be afraid to watch. like any tragedy, haven't got a hope of even starting.
who does that?
by the way, what are they saying sometimes when they speak a different language. it happens when their reaction is quick
Master Ray, just watched "Line of Duty" - on swedish Netflix :)
It's pretty good, hope Season 2 will hit Netflix soon, too.
Heno, how is "Firefly" coming? Finished? I think I'll need to rewatch the one or other episode soon.
But now I am out of stuff to watch again - any suggestions?
game of thrones, all the way from season one up to date
And I'm ashamed to say that I've never watched THE WIRE, which certain pals of mine will never let me forget... it's on my watchlist, honestly!
Australian film, - Chopper, staring Eric Bana
o've watched as far at 40 mins into ep 9 season 3 and i am going to have to stop. everyone is killed apparently. thats too horrific for me. is there anything in the storyline that i miss if i go to ep 10? if so then tell me so i don't have to watch it
brilliant
made me laugh out loud. cheers.
never watched it ray....to be honest, never heard of it. whats the story?
i just finished watching ep 1 again to prepare for watching ep 2 now
Oh what a film. Love it. The last great old fashioned British war movie. Did you notice they all wear the different regimental badges from their actual army days ?
Yes politically incorrect now, but the overall plot had its heart in the right place
Just watched WOLF CREEK 2... wow, even nastier and wrong-er than the first one!I didny even know there was a Wolf Creek 2
:o
never watched. I tend to dismiss things without giving them a chance. but this thread is a great a trusted list of all this things i must try
has anyone watch the "once upon a time...." series? it looks vaguely interesting
hey ray, i haven't had a chance to watch episode 6 of GOT. I hear Tyrion is a beast but cut off all comms after that. legally downloading it from me Ma's SkyGo account right now. Enjoyed sat weeks episode although i don't like little finger and that mad sister of Sansa's mother.
Yes, I've seen that. Good film. ;)
Just watched 300 - RISE OF AN EMPIRE. Very little storyline, stupidly over-violent but OK if you want to switch your brain off for a couple of hours. And it has Eva Green in it, so that's a big plus-point... ;)Funny enough I tried watching Rise of an Empire on the train to the good lady's. Really couldnt get it at all. Not sure of her name but the actress who played the Queen was given a line along the lines of "Stroking your **** while watching real men fight". I nearly died laughing :-)
Anyone here watched DA VINCI'S DEMONS? Watched the first episode, quite liked it, but didn't think much of the second. Seems to have a fanbase (the second series is airing right now), so there must be something in it, but not sure if I wanna carry on with it... anyone got any advice?
Gonna spend a bit of time catching up on various internet sites that I'm active on, but I think I'm gonna need to watch a film later on... someone recommend me something!!!!
if I was going to watch anything right now I would watch Intermission
best irish film ever

I liked the episode with Dracula the most. Also the one with the giant crossbow thingy.
Help me folk! This is especially a call out to Ray as I believe you are on some movie forums yeah?
I've just been given around 1000 VHS TV / movies and music videos...I've not got space for them I just said I'd try and pass em on as they were heading to a skip...there's some great TV and movies from 70s 80s and 90s BUT - and heres the real sour - they've been stored in a basement and all have some mildew on the edge of the tapes. I reckon a lot of this stuff is now available online but a lot is not - some of this stuff is worth preserving and if I had time I'd use an old machine to play them on (to upload to youtube or record onto digital) The machine could be opened and cleaned up after jobs done. I don't have the time nor the space for this stuff...I've put 'em out on eBay for a penny - Three weeks now and so far only one bite so it looks like they are heading to a skip.
All the vids are numbered and there are three catalogues that come with the vids of everything that is on the videos.
I'm now going through the catalogues and jotting down in word briefly what is in the catalogues - so if anyone can help me pass this stuff on - PLEASE get in touch if you want to browse the list. Let me know your e mail address and I'll send an attachement.
I reckon they have another week before they have to go and - I have to say I'm ok with Gaia taking them - she's sturdier than she is given credit for in my humble opinion - but the loss of this library of work sits less comfortably with me...Let me know if you can help me re house this stuff...Ta, Larry
so have you watched intermission yet?
drummyb, shush, ray, everyone?
jaysus Ray. You have me thinking over time. theres no one left to kill is there?
and it was cracking. going to watch it again, might even watch the series from the start prior to the last episode. Then that us done again for 8 months or so.....:-(
Ah cheers Ray - so the bad news is that the vids are most likely gonna have to go like an old cadillac into the crusher - the good news is that you inspired me to check out captain phillips a film I been wanting to see since I saw the trailers - just found it tonight - that was a great movie - thanks for the prompt...
ok Ray
this is not good
people are telling that I will never believe what happened in GOT last episode
you know me man, I can't handle the pressure. it think I should probably just shelve it until the start of the next season, get 3 episodes in and then circle back when its to the crucial stage, like I did with the red wedding
sometimes I am just a basketcase
Fraid Ive gone Grown up....Kick Ass. Never tire of it and great soundtrack. However just put the Spain match on
ray, I've got as far as the fist fight and had to turn it off for a while. too much.........i'm guessing it starts to get wicked now?
film, MACHETE
Game Of Thrones. I have only watched the first season and it is addictive. I really hate the Lannister family though.

Kill List is a total mind ****. Love it. 'Thank you...' :o
the director Ben Wheatleys follow up was a film called Sightseers, you should deffo check it out, here's the trailer...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA2tM_VzDSI
Wierdly, Mr Wheatley is directing the first two episodes of the new series of DOCTOR WHO... perhaps the hunchback will show up... ;D

Yeah, seen that one. Sort of a comedy mass murder road trip. good, but does not have the impact of - Kill List -.
I tried to give "Breaking Bad" another shot and I still can't get into it. I don't understand as it's regarded as a wonderful show. i have figured, It's me not the show. :)
Just finished watching Calvary after Master Ray's recommendation. Seriously. What a fantastic film. Tragi-comedy I guess theyd call it. One to watch.
NOAH... No spoilers here, but Russell Crowe gives a terrific performance, Jennifer Connolly and Ray Winstone are also great. Even Emma Watson, pretty though she is (but not a very good actress IMO) is decent enough... also, some pretty spectacular visuals. I'd give it a go if I were you.
After that, I stuck on THE OUTSIDERS which I haven't seen in many a long year... loved this film as a teenager and still loved it today. One of the best 'young people' movies ever with fantastic cinematography and a great soundtrack. Also funny to see a young Tom Cruise before he had his teeth and nose fixed... ;D
I am watching the sun come up slowly and it's better than Film and T.V.Yeah. Ive seen that too. They keep on showing it :-)
I imagine people did that long before television was invented. :)
Game of Thrones Season 2.
It's getting weird to. I just saw some sort of smoke demon come out of a vagina. It may have turned me off of the series a bit for reasons I can't fully understand.
You must be hybrid human/demon girls. How rude of them not to tell you. ;D
Here's one for you fellow 70's kids... SAPPHIRE AND STEEL, anyone?Chuff me!! Thats a blast from the past. Used to love that show!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gjHmEUiaxo
;)
Loved this one as a boy...
A highlight of home grown 1970s T.V.
Thanks for the link. I'll watch that with the missus when I find the time. We have often talked about that series
30 years....why did you have to go and remind us. its nearly 40 since the first star wars. only realised recently because i kept think about "why do they have to keep making remakes. like alfie? and thats nearly 50 years old.
man i now feel old
fucken hell
this aint good
am i old?
oh ****!!!!!
Good film. I was a bit surprised by the violence in it. All the Marvel films have fight scenes obviously, but I thought it was more graphic in this one. Maybe its just me.
CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 - THE WINTER SOLDIER.. excellent, probably the best Marvel comics movie so far and much better than the first one...
Yup.Sorry, just seen that you already recommended it
Just stuck on "Shawn of the Dead" with my two lads, and a few cans ;)
The Kate Bush story, on beeb 4. Great stuff. 8)
You and me both mate. Now watching after the documentary, a compilation of BBC studio performances from the late 70s onwards. What an incredible performer / singer / lyricist.
Sings at you with wild eyes. - like someone else we know ::)
Have to admit, I could really get into Bush in a big way.
Hook-line-and sinker, although, I though Heno would have been the one to pick up on it first ;D
i've got the matrix trilogy and blade runner directors cut lined up to watch
man this is going to be a good session
Twin Peaks, the new blue ray edition!
the matrix
man i love this stuff
so well done for a techy
Watched ALL IS LOST last night... good movie. Robert Redford is a 70-something guy alone on a yacht whose boat gets damaged and sinking and has to fight for his life against the elements... good movie, mostly wordless and cinematic and well worth a look...
Right now, I'm watching the directors cut of LEON, one of my favourite films ever... :D
Ray, what was the film called where a couple emerge from a dive, and the boat they where on has left without them, then the sharks move in. Another "float movie"
Ahh, that's the one. Liked that one also. There was another similar to that, a group of people on a boat, they all decide to jump off, dive in, then cannot climb back up. Have you seen that un ?
Doh,
yes that's the bugger
Perhaps OPEN WATER 3 is about you and me going on a boating holiday off the coast of Ireland and are menaced by Heno in a rubber dinghy...
:o
Filth (Irvine Welsh) wow this is one crazy fcked up film but i suppose that's all most a given from Mr Welsh Nowhere as good as train spotting, not as crazy as the much recommend acid house trilogy, much better than the disappointing ecstasy.A good watch but definitely one for the more broad minded
i'm going to watch the wolf of wall street
if any one recommends it that is
ok, on my reputation i insist that everyone watches intermission
colm meaney, colin farrell......irish copper versus a chancer. and look out for the new king of the north from GOT in it too
I watched FRANK last night. I really liked it.

No. Just... no.
;)
No. Just... no.
;)
Thought it was a bit low brow for here but I can't help, it I love it - it really makes me laugh. :P
Yes please to Dr Who, I grew up with Tom Baker's Doctor (Saw him once, down the tip of all places, fella seemed as mad as a hatter but very nice) and I think Capaldi is turning out pretty damn well. I like the edge he's brought back.
I just found my DVD of THE DAY TODAY, a classic UK news parody thing from 1994... forgot how brilliant it was. Also the first TV appearance of the almighty Alan Partridge! Not quite as good as the follow-up, BRASS EYE, but well worth a look. Here's episode one.Loved the Day Today. Even know someone who thought it was real lol. The Alan Partridge film is good too.....but off that topic. Deliver us from Evil. Not a bad movie. Also watched Lone Survivor and the new Transformers film. Lone Survivor is good and graphic. Got bored with Transformers. Way too long.

taking the tone right down, Gogglebox anyone?
Heno, took your advice and watched the first couple of eps of TRUE DETECTIVE... bloody hell, so much awesomeness...
Nice one Wessex - I knew I couldn't be the only one :)
Loads of 'em get me laughing and sometimes there's some pretty astute sharp comments too.
I love the "alternative" family with the boyfriend that never speaks !
;D
I'm not a big fan of Star Trek (more of a Doctor Who fan), but dammit, THE WRATH OF KHAN is a cracking good sci-fi movie...
must be an english thing then
wow ray
thats a serious endorsement
gonna have to watch it
where did you see it?
Dawn of the planet of the apes.
8)Apes. With guns!!!
Yeah. But Flash Gordon was cool!!Dawn of the planet of the apes.
8)Apes. With guns!!!
And also on horseback!
The next film will probably have the apes on bloody ROCKETCYCLES! Just like in FLASH GORDON!

;D
I bloody love FLASH GORDON... not a popular opinion, but I prefer it to any od the STAR WARS films... :-\
I bloody love FLASH GORDON... not a popular opinion, but I prefer it to any od the STAR WARS films... :-\I think it was made like the old tv series which is why it holds its own. Used to love Star Wars but its disappeared up its own rear end......side note. Ted. Sam Jones mocking himself was funny!!
Yeah. Black and white tv. I wonder how kids today react to telly thats 40 years old?? I used to love it. Laurel and Hardy, Harold Lloyd and 3 channels that finished at midnight!!
Maybe this should go in the getting old thread lol
Guardians Of The Galaxy. Damn good fun film.
Michael Caine in "Harry Brown". excellent revenge thriller
saw it when i was a kid
all i can remember is james stewart walking down the street in the snow or something
Just watched Dawn of the planet of the Apes, now watching "from dusk till Dawn" with Harvey Keitel

Unusual Xmas day choice M/R, not very festive, but I suppose at least you know you will have two hours of movie magic ;)
Watching a tribute documentary to Rick Mayall on beeb 2. What a loss. Love that guy. Very much part of my teenage years and beyond. Rock on Rick ;)
Life force...I always liked this one. A nice twist on the old vampire tale.
Straightheads. Film with Danny Dyer and Gillian Anderson. A good revenge thriller.
Remember you saying before you are not a Dyer fan because of his "wide boy" image. The perfect film to counter that view. He gets beaten to a pulp and is left a completely broken man.
You know I wouldn't recommend a film to you if I didny think you would like it M/Ray
Bit of a tangent but if you liked Breaking Bad you might enjoy reading this interview with RJ Mitte (AKA Walt Jr)
http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2015/jan/07/rj-mitte-walt-jr-nothing-compare-to-breaking-bad-cerebal-palsy
i watched guardians of the universe on a plane
probably better on the big screen and wicked audio
but i love peter quill
and the way they mutate females just as much as males
Not seen the second film yet, but look forward to doing so. Love both of the TV series, watched all episodes so many times, but always find lots of laff out loud moments every time.
burt lancaster cool
i've been watching the big bang theory and the extended cut of all 3 lotr films.
haven't yet seen the hobbit. will do soon. anyone had the pleasure?
Cheers Gorgeous :-*
Yeah I saw that. Could be really good (maybe that's why Dark Tower got dropped) Did you ever see the TV films from the 80's (Stupid me ;D - you're a film geek so of course you did) ? Good for the time but a bit dated now. Molly Ringwald as Frannie was - meh :( , but I thought Trashman and Flagg were excellent. Any idea when the films are due to come out?

I did see the 90's version of The Stand. Shithouse, IMO.
No official release dates for the remake, but apparently Matthew McConaughey is signed up to play Flagg. After watching True Detective, I say 'YAY!'
Otherworld (et al) by Tad Williams – Brilliant stuff if you don't know it and frighteningly prescient given the way we're descending into this Brave New Virtual World
crown court
used to nearly die when that came on telly and i was of school sick
that and bagpuss
at least that was pre home and away
watching the original oldboy - got to the part where he eats the live octopus
good film so far
this is about the 4th time i've done every episode
season 4
priceless
i remember watching that the first time and thinking that it was as good as it gets
has anyone watched the fargo series?
BIRDMAN, a hugely acclaimed movie that I've been dying to see...
My two-word review?
Pretentious arsebobbins.

The folks at the Oscars might take issue with that but I agree.
funnily enough, watched HG-Mockingjay last weekend... enjoyable, but deffo two hours of set-up for the PROPER finale...
youtube favourites
office us last to seasons - lately i have tried before sleep but it appears i can't stay awake long enough for one episode
Only lovers left alive.....cool unvampirish vampire film by Jim Jarmusch. There is some really cool music in this one. There is something about a Jarmusch film. They can often plod along at a relatively slow pace but I have to keep watching.
The Avengers 8)
Louis Theroux: By reason of insanity
love Louis Theroux programs
Nothin. I'm I'm hospital for a bit. Not I'll as such, being tested for a rare syndrome.

Cockneys Vs Zombies. Have been a few good UK based comedy horror's in recent years :)
JOHN WICK. Really good action movie. Funny how Keanu Reeves isn't exactly a great actor, but somehow he's just perfect in certain flicks... this is one of them, trailer here...

is it?
i shouldn't be so afraid of starting something new
ray,
game of thrones
debating to have a black out on any knowledge and wait until its over and watch them all in one go
or listening to a load of bollox interpreting whats happening every week and trying to match it to the books
fantasy was so much better until this age of communications.
The Football Factory.
P/S M/R, like Neeson, but don't rate Schindler's list.
3/4 way through firefly
get the tissues
Me neither Heno. 1st and 3rd are class. 4th is OK, but I am no fan of the 2nd
IMO, that 4th Indy flick was a bloody abomination.
Just stuck on THE TERMINATOR. The original and best. T2 was OK, the third not so good (great ending though) and the fourth was utter dogshit...
THE DREAMERS, finally got around to watching this...
... well, that's me off for a cold shower... :D

Gonna give the Water Diviner a whirl I think
Its an ok film mate. Thats the best I can say without giving too much away. I gather its loosely based on a true story. It doesnt really give too much depth to the characters tbh and seems a bit far fetched at times but I think theyve tried to cram historical events in that are touched on but brushed in as a sideline. Worth a watch but not the best film Ive ever seen. Gives a balanced view of Gallipolli though as opposed to Good Aussies v Bad Turks.Gonna give the Water Diviner a whirl I think
Let me know what you think, quite interested in that one...
Eight Legged Freaks-Very young Scarlett Johannson
Yes. Sometimes tossers can be endearing, sometimes just, tossers. Richard E Grant such a good actor. Like a lot of great British actors , worst role State Side (Hudson Hawk), but probably his biggest pay-out. Always thought he would have made the perfect Bond villain.
Love Harvey Keitel. The brief role in that film, one of his best -- now doing a good parody of it in TV adds.
Strange he always seems to be in big films, but seldom the lead. I like him in Scorsese as well as Tarantino films.
Pah. Still trying to make time for that Avengers movie. But THIS, out in a couple of weeks..? Oh yes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjBb4SZ0F6Q
ray, that show goes from strength to strength and the mad scots are just so entertaining
need to watch sons of anarchy
and vikings
what episode is GOT on now since I happen to watch the first four already?
Wanted to ask you witch is yours dubbed into German, was thinking that chibs ( the Scottish guy) would sound strange if it was.
Also a question about the think of it, Is there only 3 seasons - currently watching a box set on ebay if it stays cheap enough i will buy it
I tried to watch that MR. Did nothing for me at all, which I was disappointed by.
Pineapple Express. Dunno how I missed knowing about that film for so long.

Defiance - It's about jews in Belarus hiding out in the woods from the Nazis. They are lead by three brothers and are joined by more people along the way. One brother joined the soviet partisans. It was very well written and acted.
Ex Machina. 4 characters. What a bloody fantastic film.

Howd you like them opples Barry Norman!!! ;). I tried to avoid too much info but point taken.
Maggie. An odd, low-budget horror flick that's mainly about the relationship between a father and daughter (also, zombies) ... and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger?
A true curiosity, but I rather liked it. Trailer here...

I've become obsessed with watching Law and Order UK every night. I'm not sure they run in any particular order or are all in the same series, but that doesn't matter. I love it !
I didn't realise what a good actor Bradley Walsh was. You normally only see him knobbing about on telly.
:)

And back in the day you saw two films, feature and a B movie :(
Day off today, so went over to Liverpool and checked out 'TERMINATOR - GENISYS' at the cinema...
If you're tempted... I wouldn't bother. Wait until it shows up for free on Channel 5 a couple of years from now. Couple of good action scenes and Emilia 'Game Of Thrones' Clarke is a cutie, but it's well over-complicated and rather pointless...
IT FOLLOWS, highly acclaimed horror flick... MUCh better than the average teen horror movie...
THE VOICES... damn, this is an odd one. Kinda sick, kinda funny, one to give a watch if you're into oddball cinema... trailer here...

so many people are trapped not knowing how to start a relationship. ill prepared for life let alone love
so many people are forced to demonstrate that they love and are devoted to the person their family decided they should marry. mostly because of religion and money. you can't love someone you don't love just because you are told you must.
i'm not sure its so bad that people take a chance on a show like that. they all seem to want to be there.
'Zombie FLASH Eaters'?
I agree, saw that on VHS when I was about 12 with a bunch of schoolfriends. Freaked me right the **** out, first proper gory movie I ever saw. The splinter of wood / eye bit? Looks fake as **** nowadays but back then... :o
I prefer these cheesy ridiculous 80's 'video nasties' to most of the crap horror flicks around nowadays...
One for ray . Black mirror on all 4 , the full series is available for anyone interested
last season of the think of it
oh my word
if there was ever satire this is it

Carry on at your convenience DVD
The best of all carry on films :)
As they say round here Iron Mon.....how is it films from less than 10 years ago, seem to date so quickly.
Look at the FX in LOTR compared to the Hobbit. Scary.

Film, The Gate
original 1980's version with Stephen Dorff
The whole seven series of Sons Of Anarchy(again). 8)
I watched Life of Pi on telly the other night and thought they should re name it The Life Of Pish.Well I guess youd be as glad of a boat to sit in ???
Not impressed at all. Didn't live up to the hype.
:(
Blade Trinity- still a very good film.
Fury?
That old horse and his adventures are still interesting? Back to your roots and beeing a child?
Or who or what is the "new" Fury?
I watched The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies the other night and thought it was brilliant. I was in the Clifton area the day after Joanna went missing and there was a very sombre air.
Jason Watkins was fantastic in the main role and his likeness was remarkable. If I hadn't of known he was an actor I would of thought it really was Christopher.
The murder of a young woman was sad enough but the way the media had hung drawn and quartered Mr Jefferies without a shred of evidence was totally devastating and changed a very private mans life over night.
Interestingly, the scene with Steven Coogan was fictitious but nicely brought in the Hacked Off campaign into the story which we know Steve Coogan is a huge supporter of as his "shinanagins" were reported as fact in the tabloids.
To be truthful I kinda knew how Christopher felt because I was in a similar situation as a 15 year old when my mother died in "suspicious circumstances". My friends and just random kids who went to my school had to get past probing journalists at the school gate wanting to know all about me and my family.
>:(
Agreed sorry to hear about what happened to your mum ww and your experience afterwards its difficult enough in normal circumstances.
Glad you have finally started on soa ray , my advice stick with it, it definitely gets better
Mad Max:Fury road.....oh dear. What a load of old shite.
The Worlds End.
Do like a Cornetto movie ;)
Bullseye.
Dead Zone with Christopher Walken
80's classic.
"Hot Chocolate" at the BBC on Beeb3. Surprisingly quite entertaining. :)
Run all night- Another very good Liam Neeson film.
Run all night- Another very good Liam Neeson film.Likewise hadnt heard of Lifes too short. Or seen any of the Taken films. I do think Warwick Davies bounces of Ricky Gervaise.....and Karl Pilkington for that matter.
I can highly recommend Tombstones and Run all night mate. Very impressed.
Ain't seen that one yet, likewise 'Walk Among The Tombstones'... do like Liam Neeson. Did you ever see this brilliant clip from 'Life's Too Short?' So funny, so wrong...

Indie classics at the bbc - currently available on the iplayer
Just watched Vacation. Funny film. My sense of stupid, silly humour.

Skyfall, in anticipation of watching Spectre next week... I am a hardcore James Bond fan...
Skyfall, in anticipation of watching Spectre next week... I am a hardcore James Bond fan...
"Skyfall" wasn't bad but i guess my favourite are "On her secret Majesty's service" (James Bond at his most romantic!), "Licence to kill" (in part by nostalgia maybe, because it was the first Bond movie i saw in theaters, back in 1989) , "Dr No" and "Never say never again"...i'm not a fan of Roger Moore but "The spy who loved me" is pretty good and i had fun with "Octopussy" and "A view to a kill".
Spy Who Loved Me, is my favourite by far. The ultimate baddy with Richard Keil as Jaws. Nice scenery in Egypt. Plus its the only film I know of with both 70's goddesses Valerie Lyon and Caroline Munro
plus of coarse it has Roger Moore, the best Bond.
'Never Say Never Again'????
For shame, sir! ;)
You redeem yourself with OHMSS, under-rated thanks to Lazenby's non-popularirty, but it is a cracker with a nut-punch of an ending.

IMO, the best thing about "Never say Never again" is the scene with Pat Roach. Really liked Pat Roach.
auf pet was a classic! ok about 30 years back, I give you that. the whole lot was on utube recently, I lapped it up. sadly it was removed and now down to commercial box sets again....bring back VHS, that's all I can say!
Broadchurch - the first was perfect, couldn`t stop that tv watching late at night
did`t know there`s a number two to follow
Film, Election. Matthew Broderick / Reese Witherspoon. Good film.
I did watch Inside Out the other night, love those Pixar films... beautifully made and funnier and more moving than most 'grown-up' movies... also with a 'message' that's quite profound for a film aimed at families...
SPOILERS FOR 'INSIDE OUT'...
... I genuinely thought the concept of sadness being a huge part of life and essential for 'growing up' was a brilliant thing to stick in a kids movie, especially for kids who might have certain issues...
Saw the new James Bond film Spectre last night.
Meh.
James Bond is not small, blonde and pouty.
:(

I like that war film. Like a truly good war film, it is not about hero's. Instead it deals well with the feelings and fears of the young men knowing they will soon be going over the top. No big battle scenes. Thought Danny Dyer was good playing his usual "wide boy role" only to be shown as the most scared in the end. Nice to see Daniel Craig in a pre-famous role also. Well worth a watch if you have not seen it.

It's all about the claustrophobic relationship between just a few characters. How life must have been in that situation, how to while away the time, with the ever present menace of going over the top, and how to get through each day.
My Great Grandfather fell at Passchendaele in 1917 at the age of 31, I found his name at Tyne Cot cemetery this time last year, when I visited Belgium for the centenary of the start of the great war. So this film gives me just an inkling of what life must have been like for him as a "Tommy"
I seem to remember this was a low budget film at the time British film makers we're practically skint.
Watching gogglebox last night anyone spot the doctor with the NMA lanyard treating the girl that had been kicked by a horse
Trainspotting in German must sound strange
Thanks ray

Yeah, Liam Neeson is inundating us with his action movies over the last few years but this ones rather unusual... he's got a different coat on. ;)

Big fan of David Tennant here so this is a must-watch for me. ;) I actually wasn't expecting much but really like the first 3 episodes. Hopefully, I'll find the time to watch the rest this weekend.
Anyone tried JESSICA JONES on Netflix? Just checked out the first couple of episodes, intriguing rather than a must-watch for the moment but I'll give it a few more episodes...
Last and this weeks Dr Who. Peter Capaldi is excellent and very deep in character.
now I have spare time.
now I have spare time.
Me too ;) I've been rewatching Breaking Bad, and enjoying Shameless USA (about to start season 3), The Detectorists - brilliant stuff on BBC with Mackenxie Crook and also another BBC gem - The Secret History Of The British Garden which admittedly won't be everyones cup of tea but is really good and I like Monty Don. Next in line is season 7 Sons of Anarchy. Oh and it turns out I quite enjoy Eggheads ;D

Yay, another person here into Shameless USA, f-ing LOVE this show, far better than the UK version... the whole cast are fantastic! Anna, I think we might be the only people in the UK who love this show! In fact, I'm just rewatching the fifth series in anticipation of the sixth, which drops in January. No spoilers, but just when you think it can't get anymore 'wrong'... it does! ;)
Hope you're well, gonna miss you in Notts... your fellow Forum pals will raise a glass in your honour.
Spent a lovely afternoon laid on the sofa watching Capital on BBC iplayer - a really good drama and thevery last scene showed a postcard dropping onto a doormat with words written in the classic NMA font :o
Watched a really good film the other day - Brooklyns Finest (Hey MR- never heard of Brooklyn 99).
Think I get DW now - Clara & Me are whizzing about the universe for a while in their own TARDIS until Clara has to go back and die - right :-\ ;D
Ant man.....good film with some nice comedy one liners.

I also liked Antman a lot better than other Marvel pictures...
Good meeting you last night, sir, where did you get to for the aftershow? Oh well, maybe next time, eh?
Blitzed through season 7 Sons Of Anarchy: good stuff and a decent ending. Thoroughly approved of the Venus & Tig storyline, thought it was well done and someone involved in the writing knew what they were talking about.
Has anyone seen the blacklist, quite fancy it
Pixels. Not bad at all.
'everythings tickety-boo... totally disco'
'everythings tickety-boo... totally disco'
Yeah that is a brilliant line, thoroughly enjoying this series as well. Do you think she really is dead ?
Thought the Dr Who christmas special was a bit lame but even so Capaldi seems to get better and better.
Watched the pilot for Banshee (as recommended by the Boards very own Barry Norman) and will certainly be carrying on with that one. The blood and gore factor looks as if it will up there with Spartacus - awesome :D
Just finished watching , In Bruges
Not for the first time, but a very good film I can watch again. Gleesson and Farrell are superb together. Although it does grate on me with Farrell putting down Bruges all the time. Its a lovely place :)
Yes, Mr Fiennes was excellent in his out of character gangster role. Sort of reminded of of Ben Kingsley doing similar in "Sexy Beast" -- A film I imagine you also like M/R. ;)
Charlie Brookers 2015 wipe, excellent and funny as fck, catch it on iplayer if you missed it
After enjoying last nights 2015 wipe, its mr brookers how video games changed the world
Anna, just watched the new SHERLOCK... rest assured, it does work,
Watching a programme about gourmet burgers on Channel 4. I took 2 customers out before Christmas to a place called Byron, i had never heard of it before but it cost me £68 for 3 burgers, 2 plates of nachos and 3 cokes.

I hope you got chips with that! Personally, I thought it was a cracking burger from that street stall outside of Nottingham Rock City...
Still on a big Twin Peaks marathon...

it will be the RED SAUCE you put on it that made it a tasty burger
Just watched first episode of Deutschland 83, enjoyed it very much. Looking forward to the next one.
All the best,

Big Trouble In Little China. Awesome 80's cheesiness. Kurt Russell...? Cool as fook, as this clip, the opening sequence, demonstrates...

I quite like the re-make of the Thing too....
Tonight Im watching Signs. Possibly one of my favourite films. Mel Gibson at his peak......before he went a bit off the wall and offensive.

Signs is, indeed, a good film, certainly the best by M. Night Shala... Shylym... Shilami.... the bloke who did 'The Sixth Sense'.
The Martian.....fantastic film...with a disco soundtrack!!!! Well worth a viewing.

Saw it at the cinema, it was excellent...
The Youtube copy of the WWWB movie was blocked in the UK, but it had a truly superb theme song from Mr Bowie, a truly under-rated tune...Never thought something is blocked in the UK - only my link or some other links, too?
I gave it a couple of episodes, didn't quite work for me so gave up on it, but what the heck, try it for yourself.
On a similar note, anyone tried 'The Man In The High Castle'? Looks pretty interesting...

The man who fell to Earth. With Dave Bowie

Tattoo disasters UK..Thats actually a pretty clever idea in one way. In another its a pose factor. Interesting though.
Certainly does pay to find a good artist. Around 12 million people in the UK with tats. Around a quarter of work done these days are cover-ups. Saw something new to me - U.V. tattoo's, Can't see them during the day, show up in night club lighting.
Saw The Martian the other night.Cracking film.
That was good.
Awe your nearly finished soa , the box set withdrawals will kick in soon lol
Was very disappointed with this weeks x files
Event Horizon. Saw it back in the day. Under-rated IMHO.

Girls Guns the Government. Bad-Guys, Bullets n Burdz
Standard bond formula but entertaining all same
Just finished season 2 breaking bad , excellent stuff , would recommend it to everyone
I don't watch TV anymore these days. I and my wife actually quit watching it in 2007 when there was a media tax that was brought and you had to change the analog system to a new one. Well, we can watch it from the net whenever we want to. You can read the news there, read smart phone news, listen radio etc. etc.
However, I used to be a sort of movie buff in 90's as I was working in a firm that copied DVD's, imported Egmont and Sandrew Metronome films and sold them forward to markets. I also like wildlife documentaries, other documentaries and odd film now and then if I have a holiday or something.
Well, I recently remembered a certain scifi film called Doppelgänger by Robert Parrish (circa 1969) where an astronaut sees everything in reversed way in conclusion. I'd like to see the film now again. Would like to find out were there any other strange things during the film that you probably couldn't find weird unless thought it further. Anyone other seen the Doppelgänger? There's also an other name for it, called: A Journey To The Far Side of The Sun?
Trailer at YouTube: https://youtu.be/gT1XnfoTeEk
Will give it a go, if I remember
Didn't realise you were a scrap heap challenge fan ray lol
'There's a useful four-letter word.... and you're full of it.'

Das Boot.
No subtitles or dubbing or directors cut. The full film in German.
It's easier!
I'm sure Pumpkin would approve.

Breaking bad season 4 episode 4
Just watched prison drama, Starred Up with Jack O'Connell. Very good if very violent.
Like Jack O'Connell. I think we will continue to see good things from him. Plus, he was born a few miles from where I live :)
Ive just watched 10, Cloverfield Lane. A great film in its own right. John Goodman plays a very good role, but jesus is he breathless quickly.
Spiritual sequel? Make your own minds up!!!
Great British Railway Journeys....isn't my fiance a lucky girl.

Quite keen on seeing that one... John Goodman is always awesome (you seen Red State?) but there was an article in The Guardian a few days back about how some foreign film posters ruin the twist in a film... yeah that's bad... and then they bloody showed the poster in question! Bastards! >:(
Personally, just finished watching Babylon on Netflix and what a superb show that was. Can't believe I missed it when it as first shown. I know I've posted the trailer for the first episode before, but here it is again, GET ON THIS ONE if you have Netflix... can't recommend it highly enough... :)

On still game - " two lagers ya prick " lol got to love boaby the barman and navid - " nena ya cow" lol
Just finished breaking bad, wow wtf didn't expect it to end like.
A big thanks to Walt and Jesse, it was fun spending a few weeks with you crazy guys.
Round 3 - Moto Gp - the circuit of the Americas - Austin Texas - another win for 93 Marc Marquez on the Repsol Honda .Reminds me of this yesterday we drove with our Peugeot RCZ to the Nürburgring there was a church servive for the bikers .... :)
Just started on the walking dead, hopefully its gonna be a good one
You tried BANSHEE yet? I can wholeheartedly recommend this one and Anna will back me up. It's bloody awesome
Still on my walking dead / banshee rotation, liking banshee a lot now, think its better than the walking dead tbh only about half way through season one on both, not been watching very much "normal telly " or any other films
Quite an episode with the albino guy ;D Mind you he did get cut down to size in the end though :D
A couple of episodes in on the new season - Lucas seems a bit lost.............. Also been catching up on the Vikings new season
Watched the trailer for Star Wars:Rogue one. Looks purdy good.
Breaking Glass - with Hazel O'Connor, didn't think I would find it on my browser. Been wanting to see this again for ages, seen it when it was on it the cinema back in day - fck that was a long time ago lolHazel O Connor. What a talent!!! Never seen the film though.
Finished season 1 banshee and the walking dead

Ooooh I've been thinking about that film for years and not though of you tubing it !
Cheers for that.
:)
Going to start watching Sons Of Anarchy soon.
Caught little bits before and heard good things, so getting the box set for me birthday.
Good call Phill. You will enjoy and suffer in equal measures. ;D Wonderful characters and tight, exciting storylines. Yes, it does drift away a bit in the last couple of seasons but rallies well before the end. But , blimey, the makers of the show LOVE to put their audience through the wringer! All I can say is that no-one is safe...
Also, stay the heck away from anything remotely involving SOA on the old Internet. It's been finished for a couple of years now so it seems to be fair game to discuss the various character deaths, of which there are many... I clicked on an interview with Charlie Hunnam (lead character Jax) well before seeing the very last episode, it seemed perfectly innocuous but it gave away what happened to him at the end! Fuming! >:(
You will have a great time watching SOA. And if anyone on this Forum gives you any spoilers, rest assured, us SOA veterens will have a private meeting and discuss whether they should meet 'Mr Mayhem'... you'll find out what that means... ;)
Just finished watching 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE. Excellent, best film I've seen in a while. Highly recommend it. Trailer here...Told ya!!!

The Warriors.....silly, horribly dated film. I love it!!
Not seen CHL, not seen Midnight Cowboy, are you sure you're a movie connoisseur ? :-\
Just remember which sauce you used after the Rock City gig on your bun :P
The red flag of victory flutters boastfully in the wind ;D
Watching The Moomins with my 2 year old son at the moment. It's a bit of a favourite of his. I think the Polish Fuzzy Felt Moomins narrated by Richard Murdoch is the definitive Moomins, but the Japanese version from the mid nineties, although it takes a bit of getting used to, is surprisingly watchable. Unfortunately the Fuzzy Felt version seems to have disappeared from YouTube.
Captain America civil war is tonight's entertainment. Let you know what I think
Rewatched Man of Steel. One of my faves I think.
I didnt know that MR. Havent watched the Crow in years. Ill have to dig that out.
The brothers Grimsby....or Grimsby.
Gotta a panning by the critics but I thought it was very funny. Fair play Mark Strong!!
The Dead Zone, one of the better Stephen King adaptations (although not nearly as good as the book...)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmC5oPc7L3M
Just watched Romper Stomper again. but then Russell Crowe in the lead role (quite a few years before his mega-stardom) is immensely charismatic...
Wonder Woman was pretty cool, though.
American Werewolf... my very favourite horror movie ever. The perfect mix of comedy and horror. And Jenny Agutter... *sigh*. Her character was a personification of everything that's great about the NHS. ;)
SOA Season 7 disc 3 at the moment ...
Really ? Thought SOA season 7 is the last one .....so the final but Im not sure about that ....dont know ...Im feeling sorry about that
A documentary about The Yorkshire Ripper on Youtube called 'MANHUNT'... I remember those days when I was a little kid and I was so worried that my Mum might get attacked by The Ripper, scary stuff... damn, did the police **** this one up. It's an interesting watch.Well chuff me. I had exactle the same worry at my young age too. The difference between Yorkshire and the West Mids was a bit alien back then.

X men apocalypse, really enjoyed this , not the worst plot ever mixing ancient Egyptian and modern will stunning cgi graphics. The moral of the story never fck with a angry red head woman. Do the mutant rock and give it a watch.
Getting back into watching banshee after some time out, oh its good lol
Trying to watch In the Heart of the Sea but its just not holding my interest
My tattoo addiction, some excellent ink , some fckin stupid ink
Just finished season two of banshee, fcking hell more blood and death than your average war film n that's just the last episode
After a bit of binge watching just finished season three, won't give out any spoilers but my fav bit involved a certain heavy tattooed indian gentleman. Definitely a lot more violence in season 3 . Some of the plots are definitely a bit far fetched but enjoyable. Might take season 4 a bit more slowly as I hate box set withdrawal, definitely gonna miss Lucas , Anna , Jobe and Sugar when its done. Special mention to Rebecca as well lol
Sausage party lol , will I ever look at food the same way again
Yes definitely sweary , kinda liked how the douch bag was literally a douch bag lol
Seen that blood fathers on my "browser" not a big fan of Mel tbh might give it a go not many decent films about. On to season 3 peaky blinders, mmm its decent losing it way a bit but only 4 more episodes to go . Not sure if there is to be another season
Watching Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. I prefer the classic Hammer studio's take on the story, but there has to be something said for getting De Niro along side Richard Briers.
Can I just say ROBOT WARS !!!!
I'm flippin* loving it !!!
Apollo is my favorate robot ever !
* Robot Wars joke
;D
SpongeBob. C/O my 7 year old... ::)
Decided to give madmax fury road another watch, might not be the best story ever but the visuals more than make up for it , gotta love the vehicles especially. War Boys !!!
When I first saw the Terminator in the 80's I thought it looked amazing. The a few years later the first big CGI film, Terminator 2 instantly made it look dated. Now T2 is 25 years old. :oJust think what possibilities that opens. "Old" films remodernised with the original actors. I dont think that full cgi films are yet that popular, there still something about having a favourite actor. i think video games will be like watching real life.
Next 30 years, CGI will be so advanced, old time stars will be on the screen again and you will not be able to tell the difference. New actors will be created that do not exist in real life, just a program heavily copyrighted. They will never grow old, forget their lines or put on weight - or want 20 million per film. Entire films will be CGI and you will not be able to tell the difference.
Yeah I think there will always be a place for real life actors but at the same time when they have perfected CGI programs of people, like certain game characters they will gain their own fan base. Maybe a completely CGI East-Ender's - but without a Grant Mitchell leaving for long periods of time. ???And I still wont watch it ;D
The Shallows, a great cute girl / shark / horror movie. Well worth a look. Trailer here...

Good film. Theres always a danger its gonna be a Jaws rip off but the shark is only a bit part ha!
The tide would have took him....tsk. Basics!! ::) ;D
Pol, apparently there is something rather obscure on the internet that is sometimes known as 'porn'... might be your cup of tea?Oh god. Its like talking to me missus. Constantly finding holes in plots. Its not real ya know!!!
I hear it's rather hard to find though.
;) ;D
Oh, and Drummy B! Just realised that in regards to that plot point in 'The Shallows' that I mentioned....
SPOILERS.....
Didn't the driver guy from the start who showed up at the end find the body after the little kid dragged him there? If the body was washed away, wouldn't the shark, constantly swimming round the bay, find it and say 'Hey! Leftovers!'
???
The new Ghostbusters. Its not actually that bad.
I fear we are worlds apart on many, many films. Theres our cinema date out the window!!! ;DThe new Ghostbusters. Its not actually that bad.
To which I can only add something that never gets old...

The girl with all the gifts.
Saw it today and was pleasantly suprised. I don't normally like these new style "runlikehotshit" style zombies, but this was good.
:)
Trailer for 31 . If its not your thing then I advice you not to watch it

Excellent that there will be more black mirror, I'm seconding rays recommendation
all4 is a good catch up service n you don't need a license to watch
Suicide Squad. A couple of hours of quite enjoyable bang - crash - kaboom. Was looking forward to it, expectations were lowered after some bad feedback, but it's worth a look if this sort of thing floats your boat. ;)Watching it now. So far so good.

Warcraft. Cleary a lot of money has been spent on the film. However it wasnt on acting lessons or a plot.
Awful awful awful.
Watch an ad for Go Compare instead. At least it has a point.

Aw, I've been avoiding Warcraft seeing as the director Duncan Jones (aka, David Bowie's son) previously did two great films, 'Moon' and 'Source Code'... I think I'll carry on with the whole avoidance thing.
The latest independence day, decent enough film, excellent cgi , mah plot , had worse two hours.
Nearly finished season 3 the blacklist - very enjoyable
Anyone remember the days when C4 was a haven for those of us who liked intelligent and interesting and alternative stuff?
Anyone remember the days when C4 was a haven for those of us who liked intelligent and interesting and alternative stuff?
Yes i'm that old too .............. :( ;D
The last black mirror - more excellent stuff - watch out for them. ???? -
Oh Charlie is doing another thing on Chan 4 , dead set - a killer zombie - big brother thing with Davina worth a watch

;D
American history x - totally brilliant film, a must watch or if you've seen it watch it again
Just finished watching 'Supersonic', the recently cinema-released documentary about the first two Oasis albums. I know a lot of folks hate this band, but I loved them 'back in the day' before it all turned to ratshit and this is a great documentary / nostalgia-fest that's also a reminder of how funny the Gallagher brothers could be. Maine Road was one of the best gigs I ever saw. Worth a look anyway, trailer here...

The Outsiders . Modern day outsiders living off grid on shay mountain. Not the most original of main plots. Coal company wants to mine the mountain , forcing the Farrell's off their land and the ensuing power struggle. A well decent box set ( only one season so far) , well worth checking out
Just finished watching Boys from the Blackstuff "shop thy neighbour" episode. Not seen it since the early 80s but still very powerful. Julie Walters on top form. Not easy to watch at times so if you are looking for laughs maybe not suitable.

Frankie Boyle - hurt like you've never been loved - Netflix special
Frankie goes over the top in his live show from the citizens theatre - Glasgow gorbals . Frankie at his outrageous best/worst. Jaw droppingly crude n no fcking way in parts yet incredibly funny in most.
A must see for fans , A best avoided for those who aren't.
Terminator 2 - When you need that classic movie. Say what you like about Arnie but he was in some good fcking movies .
Just watched the Northern Soul film on Film 4
Great film but I'm slightly biased as my daughter is in it :)
Re-run of series three, The Inbetweeners on E4. Seen it several times, but just can't help myself.
Twin peaks
Twin peaksI'm watching again ,it's a case of refresh rather than repeat, as I can't remember most of the story and want to be ready for new series :)
Twin peaks
First time or re-watch? One of my fave shows ever. Can't wait until May for the new series...
Hacksaw Ridge. Brilliant. Only 19 days into 2017 and I doubt I'll see a better film all year.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2-1hz1juBI
Saw Passengers last week .
Was ok.
No thrills or spills.
Some might find Jennifer Lawance in her swimming cozzie the high light of the film.
;)
John Wick with Keanu reeves. With the 2nd installment hitting the big screen, I thought I would remind myself just how good the first one was. Brilliant film , one of the best action films around Imo . Just watch it
Caught up with All is Lost. Robert Redford adrift at see. Pretty good film...if a little bit "how much bad luck can you have"
Mate that'd be an awful movie!! You could at least be excused for cussing. Boilers are a bloody nightmare. You can pretty much expect the others to break but not all together ffs but boilers are big bucks. What a bummer :(Caught up with All is Lost. Robert Redford adrift at see. Pretty good film...if a little bit "how much bad luck can you have"
Yes, I watched that. Liked it. I like these nautical nightmare type films, they want to get out of the situation but where is there to go. As for the question, "how much bad luck can you have", well when its on you, you can't shake it off.
Two weeks ago our Iron , next day the Microwave blew up and both needed replacing. Then the cooker extractor fan. Last week the car failed its MOT , I had to buy a new wish-bone or something. The next day the cooker packed in (jealous of the attention the fan was getting). Now, the crowning glory, Sunday the heating went off. Yesterday the boiler condemned. >:(

A good performance from Brian Cox (the Scottish actor n not the professor) .
I think im developing a crush on Amy Adams. Fantastic actress. Verry talented.
A Monster Calls, a bloody lovely fantasy film. Made me go a bit leaky around the eyeholes, even if I saw the end coming. Highly recommended, here's the trailer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eiMjS-pbvI
Yes seen asswipe creed a few weeks ago and agreed it was utter bollocks .
So I've finally gave in and started watching game of thrones. Yeah its really good, even Sean bean is good, the sets and costumes are excellent. Starting to get to grips with most of the characters, oh well only 5 n ahalf seasons to go lol
Videodrome, .... Truly mental stuff
Just watched John Wick 2 , certainly action packed and up there with the first one. Not for everyone I suppose but Imo opinion very entertaining. Will there be chapter 3 ?
Logan - excellent film and I'm not into x men films . In a way this is more of a modern western or road movie. Low on the special effects, just enough to make the movie work and imo much more enjoyable for. Good to see a x men film relying upon acting and storyline instead of cgi nonsense.
Very much recommend
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=d2jArZFobNQ
Any recommendations for a box set, recent favourites are soa, banshee, g.o.t. , breaking bad, taboo
Line Of Duty, series 4. Bloody hell, what a great show. :D
I'm watching the snooker world championship match between Marco Fu and Neil Robertson.
Very close match
King Kong skull island - actually a lot better than I expected. way better than the old ones. is Samuel l Jackson in nearly every film these days lolWeep. I really couldnt get into it :-[
Just finished season 4 dexter fck didn't see the twist at the end coming at all. finished season 4 prison break n watched the film now on to the new stuff
Rewatched Kong: Skull Island. Got into it this time. Wouldnt say its my favourite movie ever, but its not bad.
'Casino', much Scorsese / De Niro / Pesci mafia film goodness... dare I say it, I like it better than the much-adored 'Goodfellas'... ???

Master Ray,
you really are a funny guy ;)
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Ok
Quite funny-loads of jokes in there
Groot - adorable
Rocket- lovelythankyouverymuch
Very long-2 and a half hours
Ego - says it all..right inline with my Psychodynamic Theories I'm studying at the moment.
next instalment..can't wait.
:)
Frankie Boyle - New world order, Frankie tones a down a notch but still very funny
I've been to see Wonder Woman.
Loved it.
There were lots of dads there with children who were to young to watch it. The Dads enjoyed the film while the kids enjoyed the buckets of popcorn and played on phones.
;)
King Arthur. Entertaining enough but far too much cgi for me . Very much the fantasy version of the story. Strangely the bad guy was very similar to the wonder woman one . Lots of Guy Richie jump cuts and lots of dodgy cockney accents especially from Arthur himself ( Jacs soa)
Nikita, such a great film, haven't watched in years, remade into a poor US TV show and an even worse US film remake.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=167URLa-On0
I'm not a great fan of Luc Besson but i quite like "Subway" and "Nikita" [...]

I remember seen Nikita and thought it was good. A classic. Fifth Element was also one of his works?
Guillaume, how about, what are your favourites in French films? Cristophe Gans (f.e. "The Brotherhood of the Wolves" - Le Pacte Des Loups)? In late 90's when I saw it after Kassowitz' Les Rivières pourpres I was very excited about French films. I remember it was fascinating to find out the way of storytelling was so different when compared to Hollywood films. :)
I'm still waiting for a DVD or Blu of 'Savage Nights' to appear in the UK... not only a great film but to my knowledge, the only time an NMA song showed up in a movie! >:(

Churchill - not the insurance dog but the ww2 prime minister.
Was very unsure about this one but it's very enjoyable not sure how accurate it is as it shows a side of him I certainly didn't know. Gets a recommendation from me . Good to watch a proper decent movie for a change that relies on acting n not cgi
I saw the new Spider Boy film this week.I still havent seen the Wonder Girl...ie film yet ;)
V good.
V funny.
:)
...stay till the end.... ;)
Detroit- Racial tensions- Police brutality- one of the hardest hitting I've seen in a long time . Not a easy watch but very much recommend
MR I love the book and first film. The only bit of that and King's other books that fall flat is the endings for me....all the fantastic story telling ends up as a damp squib.
I digress....Kingsman. Few years old but still love it.
MR....how do you like the look of 'Hostiles'...only caught a trailer on Youtube but looks potentially a very good film. Interested in the theme of the old American West too.MR I love the book and first film. Saw the trailer for Kingsman 2 today, should be as much fun as the first one... blimey, Valentine must have been a shit shot if Colin Firth is back! ;)

One for master ray tho I'm guessing he has seen it already- England is mine - I'm not the biggest smiths fan but his was an enjoyable film - worth checking out
Tried to watch The Dark Tower but got very bored quickly :-[
Seeing as we're talking about adaptations of King novels, I watched 'Geralds Game' tonight on Netflix... a book I really liked but never thought would ever be turned into a film, just not something that would translate... it was actually pretty good. Trailer here...Good point well made sir. Havent seen the Mist, Delores Claiborne or Christine to be fair.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twbGU2CqqQU
DrummyB, I'd add The Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me, Carrie, Delores Claiborne, The Green Mile, Christine and The Mist to that list of great Stephen King adaptations... ;)

It was Brawl In Cell Block 99, Pol. Very keen to see this, great reviews. I'm on it, thanks for the advice mate!

Just had a chat today with my friend about Chuck Norris' films. Anyone remember "Silent Rage" (1982)? Man, that was a scary film. Well, an idiot B-class movie but still... :P
https://youtu.be/01p6Y7pUavM
War for the Planet of the Apes....couldnt get into it first time. Its actually ok on the second watch.
Latest movies
Rise of the foot soldier- violent British gangster- pretty decent- worth a watch
Birth of the dragon - part of the Bruce Lee story - brilliant fighting scenes - if you like Bruce then definitely recommend
Bone Tomahawk- Not a bad film at all. Westerns suit Kurt Russell.
Just catching up with the US version of 'Shameless', first three eps of the new series. Never saw the UK original. Pretty sure I'm the only person in the UK who watches it.I never was a series fan but with people's advice I tried to pick one and it's Shameless US.Really excellent.Frank Gallagher rules! :D
Eight years in and it's still bloody excellent... :D
The foreigner - Jackie Chan and Pierce B . Jackie's daughter is killed by a "ira" bomb with pierce playing Jerry Adams (name changed) and of course he seeks vengeance
Decent enough with a few "aye right " moments
Watched The Last Jedi earlier. Without any spoilers, I feel like the torch has been passed.
Prodigy's gig in Milton Keynes, in 2009:

Out of Space!
There's a cover version of that track,
Out of Whirlwind
:D
Just ended "Black Mirror", all three seasons. Great series.
Anyone else catch the league of gentlemen anniversary specials (3 episodes) . Imo one of the best uk comedies ever , was a bit worried that they might ruin it . Whilst maybe not as funny as the originals, it had some excellent lol moments n it was still very dark as well. No spoilers but the bit at the very end was comedy genius. Currently available on iplayer and other streaming services
The Damned United (2009) Best football movie in my opinion.Story of Brian Clough in Leeds United.Very good film on interesting subject.
The Damned United is an excellent film and I don't even like football!Yeah but c'mon. A woman? Playing a mans role? Its like Mrs Doubtfire/ Mrs Brown and Tootsie in an unsettling reverse switch
Doctor Who was, indeed, excellent. I'm loving the way the people who hate the idea of the new Doctor being a lady have been posting stuff online about how 'the new female Doctor is only in the Tardis for a minute before she crashes it, bloody women drivers, etc'... sort of forgetting how both Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi did the exact same thing when they regenerated... ::)
Probbly not watched this one in 20 years or so but 'Boyz N The Hood'... damn, what a superb film, probably one of the best of the 90's...
Episodes three and four of Black Mirror... NO SPOILERS!
'Crocodile' was episode 3 and, damn, was that a grim watch... :o
Episode 4 is 'Hang the DJ' and I liked it a lot more after being so bummed out by the previous episode... this one was like the one in the previous season with those two girls in the 80's... more about humanity as opposed to technology... probably my favourite episode so far.
Think I might do the last two episodes tomorrow after I get back from finally seeing 'The Last Jedi'... :)
Shameless US Season 8 Episode 8 ..Frank slowly back in his usual business and sober Frank might be disappear in the next episodes who knows? My favorite us tv show of all times.Real and reasonable characters.I still miss Malkovich bros and Jody with Sheila sometimes. :D

I love indie films will take a look. But Master R I must confess that I'm too stuck on Shameless and making my second turn on whole episodes again.Everyone says 'you should watch also some other things' ok I'm sure there are great movies, series but this time it fits good on my personal situation.I wanna be the guy wearing a New Model Army shirt and sitting in the Alibi Room whole day, drinking beer, smoking weed and chatting with Frank.Oh Kev,give me another shot and do you have some The Clash or NMA on your playlist man? 8)Shameless US Season 8 Episode 8 ..Frank slowly back in his usual business and sober Frank might be disappear in the next episodes who knows? Glad to see it's still great, I'm a couple of episodes behind, will catch up asap.
Watched a film called 'The Florida Project' today, a small indie film about desperately poor people in, yes, Florida that might be an Oscar frontrunner. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I really liked it. The little kid who plays the main part is just superb, I think she's only about five year old. I watched the season 1 episode 1 of Black Mirror and found it disturbing and disgusting.Jumped into season 4 and first 3 ones were ok but it's not my thing really. So Im never going back to the bad old world but I'm going back to dark side with Frank and the Gallagher way. :)I love indie films will take a look. I'm now caught up with the US version of Shameless. Oh, so good!
Nice to see Franks slipping back to 'the dark side'... ;)
Watched Dunkirk on the plane home. Enjoyable but a bit disjointed I thought.
No mate I latched on to that straight away. I dont think it helped, in the way it does with say Tarantino. Not much character development. But still a good filmWatched Dunkirk on the plane home. Enjoyable but a bit disjointed I thought.
Ha! I thought that when I saw it at the cinema... something I missed was that the film was shown in three separate timelines, not terribly well explained at the start. If memory serves, the stuff with Tom Hardy in the Spitfire took place over one hour, the stuff with the boats took place over one day and the stuff on the beach took place over one week. But it was all edited together for maximum effect, hence the way it sometimes went from night time to daylight from scene to scene... I'm not alone in being confused by that! ::)
Still think it's my favourite film of 2017, though.
Beware of curbs with American history x
Maybe check the billboards out , didn't fancy it tbh
Just finished the US version of Shameless, season eight. I really can't think of another show that is eight years in and still keeps the quality so high, just excellent (although the 'Gay Jesus' subplot is a bit far-fetched). Roll on season nine!Season eight included a little bit disappointments for me but generally it was ok.Agree with you on gay jesus.Im looking forward to season nine.Sad to see Svetlana go only.
We dropped away from Shamelss US but perhaps it's worth another go.
Watched Hard Sun recently - really enjoyed it but a totally naff cop out ending I thought.
Have watched first 2 Brittania episodes and I know you thought it was rubbish MR but watchable rubbish perhaps? Have to take issue with some of the grand scenery backdrops: most unlike Kent >:( ;D ;D ;D
Godzilla vs MOthra...........classic Japanese monster fare that reminds me of my youth. They still put a smile on my face.
Thor:Ragnarok....not sure about it. May need another watch at some point.
Thor:Ragnarok....not sure about it. May need another watch at some point.
I'd give it another go. It's super-campy, more of a comedy than an action film, I loved it. You gotta admit that Korg, the big rock guy, was a brilliantly funny character... 'piss off, ghost!'
but it's a great sequel to an absolute classic... :)
but it's a great sequel to an absolute classic... :)
Really or is it just cashing in? Didn't wanna spoil the first one by watching something crap if you see what I mean? ;D
Ok. Thor Ragnarok. I get it. Good film.
Justice League. Good film. Also watched the Cloverfield Paradox which got panned. I thought it was ok
Justice League. Good film. Also watched the Cloverfield Paradox which got panned. I thought it was ok
So, Bunny, just watched that new Cloverfield film and it was a mix of some good bits, some truly terrible moments (the stuff with the hand?) and an awful lot of 'wot in the actual FOOK is going on now?' :o
Apparently it was supposed to be released into cinemas but the studio figured it would flop so dumped it onto Netflix. BUT... there's a new Cloverfield film apparently to be released into cinemas this Autumn... set in World War 2 supposedly. Gotta give it to the guys who make these films, they're not making it easy on themselves to tie up these loose ends...
The new hell-raiser- wow was the worst film I've seen in a long time. Tries too hard to be weird, n giving the film a serial killer with a twist didn't work . Not at all frightening , kinda had shades of the old erasure head film but only in strangeness. Avoid !
but it's a great sequel to an absolute classic... :)
Really or is it just cashing in? Didn't wanna spoil the first one by watching something crap if you see what I mean? ;D
Anna, I'd highly recommend it. Yes, it's overlong, but it really sticks to the ethos of the original, that whole 'what does it mean to be human, or otherwise' thing. They could have made an action-heavy remake to get the kids in (although there are a few superbly-directed action scenes), but it's a slow burner. I don't want to post any spoilers but it elaborates on the concepts of the first one in a brilliant fashion. Such a shame that it wasn't a big hit because there are enough plot threads that could have led to an amazing third movie... do check it out and let me know what you thought! ;)

Yea, ditto to that. I'll put a video now (Memories) in here when she was connected with an experimental band called the Material in start of 80's. Although the music where she sang was made for charts and money, you could hear they were making it for the music. (I admit I like that stuff, not only because Bill Laswell is my fave bassist but, well... give it a try...) :)

[Fooking hell, Space, even by your desperate trolling standards, that was a new low.Come on, man, knock off that trolling stuff. You people are actually coming across far more immature than Space ever did.
Maybe it's because the "enemy". were an allience made up of a few countries .There were no Italians or Japanese hounding the British at Dunkirk.
But, yes, I got it wrong and I retract my comment.
and if you want to gloat then fair enough.
Anything you'd like to own up to? ???
Youre just sad because its not the usual Hollywood war film, where America did everything in World War 2. I think its based around the time your Government were leaving Europe to sort itself out. I suppose it could have given you a mention. Not by name. Just the ponderers. "To beat this enemy, we might need support from the ponderers". Maybe theyll put it in Dunkirk 2?!?!Maybe it's because the "enemy". were an allience made up of a few countries .There were no Italians or Japanese hounding the British at Dunkirk.
It was a rather disturbing thing to read "British, French...the enemy" in the onscreen titles of DUNKIRK. Come on, now, we can't even say 'Germans' in a WWII film?
The film DUNKIRK as a whole was extremely disappointing. When the best thing you can say about the film is that the pop star Harry Stiles was the best thing in it...well, that shows you the film was a failure. (No disrespect to young Mr. Stiles. He was indeed rather good. And good for him that he doesn't play a hero-type. Brave move on his agent's part to get him that part. And full marks to Harry for taking the part.)
Youre just sad because its not the usual Hollywood war film,Yeah, you got that right. It sure isn't a Hollywood war film. Hollywood -- America -- is about winning. Seems British war films are always about losing. "Dunkirk," "Gallipoli," "A Bridge Too Far".... I suppose Brits don't have any victories against the Germans so they make films about the losses.
like the movie Pearl Harbour :D1. Uhh, Pearl Harbor was a sneak attack. They punched us in the face when we were asleep. Real honorable, right?
Or any of the dozens of 'Nam films
Interestingly Russia, Korea, China and Nazi The Enemy have/had similar ideas in their film making. In any case. Its all history. Id hope the worlds moved on since then. However Fury wasnt a we won film nor Private Ryan. More to do with the bloody horror of itYoure just sad because its not the usual Hollywood war film,Yeah, you got that right. It sure isn't a Hollywood war film. Hollywood -- America -- is about winning. Seems British war films are always about losing. "Dunkirk," "Gallipoli," "A Bridge Too Far".... I suppose Brits don't have any victories against the Germans so they make films about the losses.
Oh, and I see your history books over there stop at December 6th, 1941; so let me tell you something. On December 7th 1941 the Americans entered WWII...and won the whole darn thing.
Quotelike the movie Pearl Harbour :D1. Uhh, Pearl Harbor was a sneak attack. They punched us in the face when we were asleep. Real honorable, right?
Or any of the dozens of 'Nam films
And if you read the full book on Pearl Harbor you'll see the final chapter deals with two places called Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We won. Oh, boy, did we win. (And by the way, if you are from the UK you should not talk about the Japanese. Your nation actually built well constructed bridges for them during the war!!! Ever hear of the River Kwai? We blow up Japanese bridges, and your guys build them for the Japanese! I'd rather be William Holden than Alec Guinness.)
2. Vietnam films always show the bad in Vietnam. There was much good there, but Oliver Stone and Frank Coppola just want to show the bad. John Wayne had a Vietnam film called "The Green Berets." In that film we win.
you make light of the war crime that was the Burma railway
With regards to Nam, the war you lost on your own two feet, I rather think the American public wanted you out of it because of the bad. Thats the lasting impression of that war. Before my time, but that war was a horrendous, monstrous mistake. Only a small handful of us here wanted it...and unfortunately they were the politicians in control of making policy.
I think this topic of conversation is in danger of going sour
you make light of the war crime that was the Burma railway
1. It's called gallows humor. And if you knew anything about the atrocities in Burma (and elsewhere during WWII) you'd know the British soldier was quite adept at gallows humor. It was one of very few things that got those brave men through such desperate situations. God bless them all. (And God damn those Japanese who put them through it.)
2. And if you want to really learn about the Burma rail line, I suggest you stop watching movies and read a book called "The Railway Man." Yeah, they made a movie of that book, but it is the book that brings tears to any man's eyes. Possibly the best WWII book I have read (and I have read hundreds of them).
"The Railway Man" by Eric Lomax -- read it.
You probably aren't aware of what Shush does for a living...Uhh, exactly why would that matter?
1..There are different thruths,....
2. In that way could we say that the director of the Dunkirk successed very well as it seems to make you complain the theme. That's ART if it's never perfect.
Whirlwind [...]
Just a bit of offtopic again:Rusco, you hit the nail on the head. Their is not one truth. Any side in an argument will see truth differently.Whirlwind [...]
Although I see the point you meant with politics, we should not compare them together. It's a totally different thing to talk about "thruth" within politics, and talk about what is "allowed" in art.
Besides that, I like to enter a bit of phenomenological thinking at times. In phenomenological context every being in the world experiences things in their own way. F.e. if two people hear the same song they might feel it in different colors (synaesthesia), emotions etc. When they express their feelings about a same town their feelings can be very different. (At times I can get a "feeling" of some certain color when I hear an exact tone.)
Oh, should we move on now back to movies...

The Big Lebowski.God knows how many times I've seen this film.I don't remember a movie has it's own festival organized by it's fans and it's still surviving after 20 years since it's released.Even there was a store in Manhattan NY called The Lebowski Shop.Sorry to hear it doesn't exist anymore.A cult film with great characters and acting.Needless to say about script and quotes.
Our troubles are over dude! Our troubles are over.. ;D

A movie with some of the most quotable and funniest lines ever.
Blond Treehorn Thug: [holding up a bowling ball] What the **** is this?
The Dude: Obviously you'rgolfere not a.
;D
On the basis of the films youve mentioned in that post, I'll give it a watch definitely.
... a rare duffer from Danny Boyle. ...That's what scares me, he can be hit or miss. Why scared? I am the biggest 007 James Bond fan on planet Earth and the news broke a day or two ago that Danny Boyle will be writing the next Bond film. I know he is a capable director but writer?
You should, hope you enjot it, like I said it's a bit slow in the early stages but it rallies well. The writer is Alex Garland, who wrote my favourite novel ever, 'The Beach' which was turned into a poor film adaptation, a rare duffer from Danny Boyle. That's a book well worth reading... ???
Loved Annhilation MR. Actually found the beginning sets the tone well. Not sure about the cgi at the end but a pretty good film :)On the basis of the films youve mentioned in that post, I'll give it a watch definitely.

MR. You have to try and get over trying to steal my girlfriends. It doesnt become a man of your calibre. >:(
Watched 'Whiplash' for the third time..
12 Strong - based on the true story of American special forces who go behind enemy lines in Afghanistan. Really enjoyed this , it certainly has plenty of action.
It looks like another american bullshit. What the hell is that supposed to mean?
..is it wrong that I think the true standout performance here is Tom Cruise, not Dustin Hoffman? .
Mad Max - Fury road , hey it's been a few months since my last watch . It does have the odd naff bit but the awesome bits more than make up for them . Warboys!
I only found them worth to watch. Not the greatest films I've ever seen.Loved the sound work in Dunkirk. The dark atmosphere of war was also good.Darkest Hour was a bit boring movie but was not a time waste.Watched the both movies on a long pass flight. It looks like another american bullshit. What the hell is that supposed to mean?
And do you believe the movies DUNKIRK and DARKEST HOUR weren't bullsh*t?
Saw that remake not so long ago, thought it was ok (even if it was in German which I still can't follow a film in) - nice use of a bear trap ;)
Watching this interview with Noel Gallagher at the moment, very interesting and I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that there's something a bit attractive about him......... ???
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw1R8cbSaIc
Really enjoying Cunk on Britain.............makes me laugh anyway. ;D
Ben Hur remake. Well some have raved about it. Personally a bore fest on the Gods of Egypt scale :'( :(

ya can't beat a bit of Hammer Horror :)
Not wanting to be a smart arse, and not checking on google but I am pretty sure that series was Friday night, 9p.m., ITV around 1981.
Sorry, no never heard of Universal horrorOk, either you are being sarcastic or your IQ is literally 100 points lower than mine.
Space, if you were half as intelligent as you think you actually are you would know that the Hammer studio actually has a series of films and TV series labeled "Hammer Horror". Yes, Universal studios made horror films and whole load of other films, but if they had a direct marketing theme known as "Universal Horror", no I have not heard of it.Slush, I wrote it as "Universal horror"...lower case h. That means it is not a proper noun, it is not a title. In a topic of horror, you should have been able to figure out that Universal (with the capital U) was Universal Studios. But I guess you are not as intelligent as you claim to be above.
Not sarcastic, and considerably more intelligent than some two bit punk ass NY troll >:(
Falling Down. This should actually be in my top 5 films. A one off brilliant story.

With every passing day, I get closer to Michael Douglas in that movie... :-[
A bit of 'Demons' (classic cheesy 80's VHS horror) to send me off to sleep...

is the rock the new Arnie/ slyBetter than Ah-nold:
Come on, the guy did write ROCKY. The silly Rocky sequels distract us from the fact that the first ROCKY was a great film. That first ROCKY is so real, so honest, a great character study. It's a work that can stand alongside any of the iconic gritty films of the true golden age of movies, the '70s.
He also wrote the pretty good "Paradise Alley"Yes, he did. Also directed it. And it is safe to say that PARADISE ALLEY is a perfect example of an overlooked gem. Hardly anybody knows of it. Never on TV here. Never mentioned in any docs/articles about Sly. But the movie is a winner. Both fun and touching.
Wasn't Arnie in kindergarten cop n twinsAnd guess what? He played a tough guy in both. (In TWINS wasn't Arnold a genetically engineered superior specimen?)
Apocalypto. Kind of skipped this film for years and wished I hadnt now. Very impressed.
Apocalypto. Kind of skipped this film for years and wished I hadnt now. Very impressed.Just curious, do you know that APOCALYPTO is a remake? Have you seen the original?
Body Snatchers (1993). A hugely under-rated and rather forgotten horror film. Trailer here.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okW2UfLNaJc
Starship Troopers. One of my favourites, that elluded my top 5. Got Band of Brothers to watch soon as well. Skipped it at the time.
And Denise Richards. Dont forget Denise Richards!!Starship Troopers. One of my favourites, that elluded my top 5. Got Band of Brothers to watch soon as well. Skipped it at the time.
Total bloody classic. One of those flicks that, if I ever stumble across it on late night TV, I will always watch right through to the end... even though I own it on Blu-Ray and can watch it anytime I want! 8)
You gotta admire Paul Verhoeven spending $105 million of Disney's money on a film that blatantly equates the US with fascism... heck, Doogie Howser shows up dressed in a proper Nazi costume at the end!
I could say more... would you like to know more? ;D

Always nice to see you back, Anna! Is Homeland worth carrying on with? I got to the end of series 5 and just didn't bother carrying on. Always thought the first two series were brilliant, didn't like the third much but it did pick up once Brody was out of the scene... perhaps I should pick it up again?
Maybe Brody will be back . Only on season 5 myself.
Honour up - directed by Kanye fckn West. Actually a pretty good new york gangster film
The Sopranos series one and two done and dusted, superb.........
.
The Karate Kid Part 2.
Ha! 'Obtained it' just now, a friend of mine saw it at the cinema in the Netherlands a couple of months ago... he said it wasn't very good. But when was the last time anyone of us saw a decent Bruce Willis film? ;DLooper maybe??

...i have been watching the last scene of Sopranos over and over again. It is still not how i expected it to end, but, after the initial shock / surprise of how it did...Man, you should have seen our newspapers, our TV talk shows, our radio shows, our everything the day after that final episode. It was non-stop talk over that ending. Oh, did the show get crucified over that ending. Say what you will about the ending, it was in fact responsible for the biggest watercooler-talk in entertainment. EVERYBODY was commenting on it the next day (even sports shows were having discussions about it). And it lasted for days.
Still in Mafia mode , my mate has just lent me The Godfather box set (yep something else no one can believe i have never watched) .Loved the first film, but think the second is better in my opinion.Have been told the third one is not so good,we shall wait and see.
Four Lions....tricky subject but very satirical and makes a mockery of the whole homegrown jihadist. In the samelight portrays their weaknesses in a human way.
...I thought it was rather good and enjoyed it,i am sure someone will post and tell me where i have gone wrong...
November 13: Attack on Paris on Netflix
Emotional stuff.

Trip to the cinema this afternoon to see 'Jurassic World - Fallen Kingdom'. NO SPOILERS! I rarely bother with the cinema these days but it was an afternoon out with a mate and a couple of beers in a sunny beer garden afterwards... wasn't expecting much but I was genuinely surprised by how much I liked it. First one since the original film to do something different, at least in the second half. There was a twist I genuinely didn't see coming and a few new ideas that might make you go ??? ....
I'd post a trailer, but all the ones I've seen give away FAR too much... ::)
Stir Crazy. Probably havent watched it in over 25 years. Still makes me laugh after all this time. :)

The Guard. Funny film and one of my best ever. Full of stereotypes and reverse stereotypes being destroyed/enhanced.
Watched the new sly Stallone film escape plan 2 . Well that's 2 hours I'll not get back . Best avoided
I thought the wrestling was on earlier than that? I have memories of sitting round my nans on a Saturday dinnertime with a bag of chips lol.
Ha, I remember seeing 'The Host' late one night on UK TV, was thinking about going to bed but ended up watching the whole thing! Really good monster movie.
Tonight, I gave the UK film 'Walk Like A Panther' a go... not a classic, for sure, but I enjoyed it for personal reasons. It's about some old wrestlers (and a few newbies) who get back in the ring to save their local pub from demolition. Great cast who are a bit wasted on a script that I would have liked to see a bit funnier and more moving than it actually was, but it's a light enough watch if you're feeling undemanding. Trailer here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yP2dapvPbb4
Those personal reasons? Loved UK wrestling as a kid (World Of Sport, Saturday afternoons, 4pm, introduced by Dickie Davies? :D) and my beloved Grandad used to take me to see those same wrestlers live at the Crewe Odeon, second Monday of every month, I saw them all! There used to be a photo of me looking starstruck with Big Daddy, but it got lost many years ago. Those nights with me Grandad are some of my favourite childhood memories...
Mad Max 2 , think fury road has surpassed it . Very similar films tho . For it's time 1 of the best films.
'Do The Right Thing' ...SPOILERS
The Amityville Horror...I live somewhat near that house. In fact, drove past it just last week.
..i have always been fascinated by the Angels.A lot of myths and bad press about them. But, i can only admire the total respect and loyalty they have for each other.Dude, you might want to rethink that post of yours.
Whirlwind in answer to your questions.........Yes,Yes and No...I would be very interested to know of your dealings and problems you have had with The Angels ?Hells Angels are far bigger in the west coast than here in the east. Their presence in New York is not as big as that of The Pagans. Hells Angels and the Pagans have had some wild brawls in recent years here in New York and The Pagans seem to rule this turf.
So no dealings or problems, just things you've read and heard about.............the usual ::)Uhh, I have no dealings or problems with Abraham Lincoln, but I know a great deal about him.
I think you have missed my point, the things you point out are horrific i could not agree more. What i wanted to know was had you actually met or engaged with Angels to make you say the things you said.........NOT too difficult a question i would have thought ?.........I pointed out that the Hells Angels are not a big presence on the East Coast. Here it is Pagan territory and with them I have "met and engaged." Many, many times. Just low lifes. And that's being polite.
Avengers: Infinity War. Enjoyed it. Good crossover between movies.
Preacher - gets a big recommendation from me . If you're looking for a new box set that's a bit different then maybe check it out .
https://youtu.be/3gueM4VilVE
Calvary- An incredibly powerful film. Its described as a black comedy. I think that does it a huge dis-service. Right up there on my favourite films.
Black Snake Moan.. which sounds like a porno, I admit! But it's one of Sam L Jacksons very best performances and Christina Ricci is pretty awesome in it as well... well worth a look, here's the trailer...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIoumDCBcuY
Actually, after watching the trailer, it STILL seems like a porno! I swear, it's not! ;D
To Live And Die In LA. I'm sure I've brought this one up before, but it's one of the very best films of the 80's. Total masterpiece.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5JI_RclmIg
Just watched some mix of documentaries about Norway Black Metal scene in 90's and listen the 'Dunkelheit' by Burzum.I really can't decide if this is some kind of stupid teenage madness or something to take serious.Maybe I'd better go to sleep.
Deadpool 2. Gotta disagree with MR on it. I really enjoyed it. Some of the themed jokes follow on but I wouldnt say its the same.
Decided to watch taboo again with Tom Hardy. If you haven't already seen it- definitely check it out.Yes, it was good and worth watching...but it surely could have been far better if the producers got some money together to hire an editor. The show plodded and plodded and plodded along like a Justin Sullivan acoustic number.

Useless information - David Hayman was in Sid n Nancy.
We just began watching Dr Who starting with Christopher Eccleston. :) It has been on our watchlist for years, the DVD box gathering dust on the shelf, but now we finally got to it. Five episodes in during the first season, it is great fun, and very reassuring to see, that the Aliens are most likely just people in rubber suits. ;)
"Are you my mummy?" :o
Just finished the two-part-story "The empty child" and "The doctor dances". The best episodes of Dr Who season 1 so far, downright creepy, combined with very funny moments, almost perfect television. We are very much enjoying the show, watching one or two episodes almost every night, except for Friday, when we had to go and see Justin :)
One notable thing though is how much more difficult it is to understand the actors, something I have noticed in a lot of British film and TV, if compared to American productions. It will be interesting to see, how we will manage, once David Tennant comes on board. We had to switch to the dubbed German version of "Broadchurch", as it was almost impossible to understand him there.
after my 17h experience with the vietnam war docu on netflix, i chose to watch "Platoon" again..
A few decent enough films imo are , I am vengeance, upgrade, bad Samaritan.
thx for the interesting suggestion. i thought about to rewatch some of the war movies, vietnam movies and this one i hadn't on the agenda. i will look into it.Interested in knowing what you think the top Vietnam War films are.
1).
... growing up in the 80s it seems that almost every movie has some connection to vietnam, the veteran, th ejungle, the flashback...
2)
...watched the first episode of MASH. I had to find out that it wasn't about vietnam,
3)
Apocalypse Now Redux (only saw that version)
Theres only one bacon for me and thats on a butty!!
Great film that I haven't seen in ages but c'mon, fella, Kevin Bacon is always great!
i love tremors! in germany they often give movies a different title or a subtitle to explain about th emovie or to give it a category, so here it's called : "tremors - in the land of the rocket worms" 8)
Last night watched The Fugitive...That film was a monster hit over here in the States. For some odd reason, that film was a HUGE hit. Finished third in the Top Box Office list for 1993. Only JURASSIC PARK and the comedy MRS. DOUBTFIRE sold more tickets that year. Kind of cool that an adult drama could do so well at the box office. We don't see that happening anymore.
New season of ink master ( season 11 I think) only 2 episodes in , a bit heavy on the drama but a few artists looking goodHey, I watch that show, too. I fast forward through the dopey drama stuff (any scene in the house I instantly zip through), but the astonishing artistry is what makes me watch this show every season.
Tried to watch it but couldnt get into it tbh. Ill give it another go.
Just gave 'Solo - A Star Wars Story' a watch... nope, not having it. If it ain't Harrison Ford, it ain't Han Solo, much like Queen without Freddie ain't Queen. Just a bad cover version. ::)
Yesterday i saw the infamous "Flesh Gordon" (1974) and had lots of fun! Of course, when you read about the plot:Ive seen a Star Wars Spoof. That was a porn movie. I only watched for about three minutes though........ ;D
"Emperor Wang (the Perverted) is leader of the planet Porno and sends his mighty "Sex Ray" towards Earth, turning everyone into sex-mad fiends. Only one man can save the Earth, football player Flesh Gordon. Along with his girlfriend Dale Ardent and Professor Flexi-Jerkoff, they set off towards the source of the Sex Ray, to stop the cosmic penetration!"
A movie you shouldn't watch alone and maybe also not sober, 'cause you won't believe some things you will see there;-)
Just thought maybe i should add: this is not a porn movie, but a very trashy exploitation sci-fi spoof, with lots of nudity.. :-[

A trip to the flicks to see the new Predator movie... as my mate said, it's a Ronseal movie, does what it says on the tin. One of the better entries in the franchise, I wish they hadn't have blown one of the big twists in one of the trailers though. Some very funny lines and characters. Worth a look. ;)
The latest mission impossible.
Nothing new but very entertaining. Maybe a bit ott on the cgi especially in the stunts .
Hey, ldopas, glad our tickers are both still pumping!
To be honest, I went into 'The Predator' with low expectations, just an excuse to hang out with my best mate, but after the awful A vs P movies I wasn't expecting much...perhaps a second viewing will show it up. What the heck, I enjoyed it. If you like Shane Black (and i CERTAINLY DO!) I take it you've seen 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' and 'The Nice Guys'? Both terrific movies...
I do have a soft spot for the works of Mr Statham like I do for some of the dodgier movies in Charles Bronsons output, he just plays to his strengths without trying to bore us with his 'range'... he's usually a grumpy old bald fella who can be a bit of a c**t, but he plays the part well. Haven't seen The Meg, but if he doesn't punch that shark right in the mouth whilst calling it a 'caaahhnnt' I'll be disappointed.
Saw the trailer for Mile22, didn't impress me much, early reviews are dreadful, but 'Patriots Day', from the same director, was a rather good film, so I think it's one for watching on the sofa rather than take a trip to my local movie theatre...
Watched Later With Jools Holland last night, did anyone else ? If so what was/is your opinion ?...I remember when it used to be the show to watch, not so sure now maybe an age thing.Thought last nights show was better than a lot from the last series,(yes i know it is subjective)either you like the bands on or you don't.I know this was discussed a while back it seems unbelievable NMA have never been on.I thought Soft Cell and Ralph McTell were great,Idles er interesting.................How about you ?Bit of a strange programme. He's clearly a huge music fan but they have some weird and wonderful genres on there. Its a bit luvvy at times.
Watch the car / bike chases again
The last episode of 'Bodyguard'... hmmm, it was OK, but throughout six episodes went from 'this is rather good' to 'hang on, it's getting a bit silly' to 'oh, what the **** is happening NOW? Seriously?' ;D
(It doesn't help that my Mum's husband used to be Special Branch and did protective services for major politicians and the Royal Family, so gleefully points out the utterly ludicrous bits every weekend over lunch!)
A decent show, but not a patch on the brilliant 'Line Of Duty', from the same writer.
Just going through the first three episodes of the US version of 'Shameless', series nine... still holding up, often as funny as it was, just about, but it's starting to creak a bit...
Ummmm. I quite liked it ;D
Born On The Fourth Of July. I just wish Tom Cruise would take more risks in his acting these days and do something like this superb film instead of doing fook-awful shit like that 'Mummy' movie...
.

It was ok. Just ok. Potentially she could be very good but I wasnt wowed. It was a bit quirky with no depth I felt.
So, is it OK that the new Doctor Who is a lady?
After watching tonights episode I'd say a slightly subdued YES... Jodie Whittaker is a fine actress and did a good job but lacked somewhat the 'gravitas moment' that previous Doctors had in their debut episodes, that bit that reminds you that you're watching an alien who is a couple of thousands of years old... I'll stick with it, obviously.
I am seriously considering watching the new season now and then catch up on seasons 2 to 10 afterwards... ::)
Tonights episode of Doctor Who. Hmm, thought this one was a bit of a snoozefest. :-[Just caught up with it. So far the two episodes havent really grabbed me :(
It should in theory be a good episode. But the very best ones are the darker ones. Think Midnight and Family of Blood. Im hoping it grabs me soon. It just doesnt seem Dr Who-y. I dont care its a woman in the lead role, but thus far its doing nothing for me :'(. Id also argue that the previous female companions were equally as strong a role. It made it more interesting with the unspoken love interest.
Looking forward to next weeks DW, it's all about Rosa Parks... purely for the reaction from certain internet 'fans' who are whining about the new Doctor being a woman and now get an episode that's about equal rights, an important moment in social evolution and 'them blacks'.. I mean, it's just political correctness gone mad, innit!
;D
Catching up on all previoys Dr Who's. Currently on Water of Mars. One of the best episodes.
Kind of. Dont want to give to much away cos I know some are still to see itCatching up on all previoys Dr Who's. Currently on Water of Mars. One of the best episodes.
It was indeed. Haven't watched it in a good long while, wasn't it the one where The Doctor basically talked someone into suicide?
Who says this is a silly kids TV Show! ???
Dont want to give to much away cos I know some are still to see it.
I just watched the film "They shall not grow old" shown today on the 100th anniversary of the wars end on BBC T.V. For me it was absolutely amazing. Starts off with regular black and white footage, then flows into colour. Its quite startling when it does. It was very strange seeing footage I have seen many times before suddenly in clear colour with sound effects and leveled out to correct speed. The film throughout is narrated by recordings of old soldiers describing their war experiences, the sound effects added to the footage in the background and tastefully done. It was very powerful stuff to watch. Well know stills such as the regularly used image of a Tommy in a captured German trench on the Somme were shown now in colour. Many of the images are now suddenly very graphic. When describing actual attacks on enemy trenches, art work was used as no actually footage of such exists. There were some issues of continuity, the famous footage of the mine explosion 1/7/16 immediately followed by tank footage, but then again it was not a documentary on any particular battle. It is all WW1 British footage, but anybody who has any level of interest in the First World War will get a lot out of watching it. Already instructed my wife to add a DVD of it to my Xmas list. Peter Jackson is well known for having an interest in WW1. I think he has done himself proud with this film

BBC News /Parliament Live........The Maybot is wobbling her Castle is built on sand...As much as I dislike the woman, Im not sure who would be able to negotiate through it and please everyone tbh

Indeed there is more, much more to life than making money. That applies to those who have money.
This weeks Dr Who. Now THAT was more like it.
New season is rumoured for March.
Rogue One....Well why not :)
totally looking forward to it! because of david gordon green and danny mcbride as producer and writer. i so love "eastbound and down" the series, with danny mcbride and green as a director and ananas express the movie, also with danny and green directing.
Just gave that new 'Halloween' movie a watch... really rather good, Jamie Lee Curtis is superb in it and it's pretty well made. Worth a punt, horror fans!

then i was totally surprised how good alien convenant was, also surprisingly with danny, whom i thought of as a pure comedian, but he must have a thing for horror.. and then i heard of halloween...
just recently saw halloween 1 + 2 again by rob zombie and also can give two thumbs up for those.

I quite liked the first RZ Halloween, the second not so much, but they were both interesting ideas about how you can make a Halloween movie, certainly moe so than some of the drearier sequels...
well, i'm from germany and i don't know nothing about baseball.
but i did play it once and i totally hit a home run!
ha, ha, kind of funny.
maybe i should have explained it more properly. of course it wasn't a real baseball game. it was on half of a soccer ground, some guys with gloves, bats and a ball, more than 30 years ago. someone trying to explain the rules to those who wanted to play soccer... but i did hit that ball and it flew over the fence!
and i don't know vice principals, but another good suggestion.
Didn't i recommend that one in the horror thread?..it is a brilliant tour de force, the first one is as good and maybe somewhat stricter and dense. Now After "the raid" you should be ready for "hardcore" ;)
The Raid 2 - awesome.

Yes, i meant hardcore henry and you should give it another try. It should then stick more to your memory;) i think its brilliant, the action is insane, almost everything is live action filmed with go-pro cameras stuck to the actor/stuntman.
I love hard boiled, but i think bullet in the head is the best woo. I'm still searching for that one, had it on vhs. Then followed by the killer and hard boiled and then comes once a thief, imo.
And also the most stunning action in inception is for me the hotel no gravity scenes, which were also done in camera with wires and rotatable room. But i did also like the pure cgi imagery.
...to be honest I have a bit of a crush on Maggie Gyllenhaal ...
The Predator.....oh dear ::) :'(
Creed 2 - a really enjoyable film , ok nothing new but there only so much you can do with a boxing film . Definitely worth a watch especially if you like the rocky films .
You will definitely enjoy the new creed film
Yesterday i saw the first 5 episodes of Vice Principals and had some good laughs. It's funny how you can relate to a character who is simply a narcistic, stupid, selfish asshole and often you just feel ashamed for him. but funny as hell. a funny monster?

@Master Ray
in my favourite german movie magazine "splatting image" they called those movies "heroic bloodshed".
Got a christmas present and it's the new Twin Peaks series. Don't know if i will see it today, i'm more in the mood for an old, rubber monster sea creature, ray harryhousen style monster movie.. 8)

Yeah, but as a human being don't you feel that you relate best to the character of Ray? The guy who married Gamby's ex-wife is really the best character in the show. It's odd, the guy was simply a very nice guy and he provided great laughs because he was so nice and said nice, kind things. His behavior towards Gamby is pretty funny. Gamby is a complete dick and Ray doesn't go down to Gamby's level. He provides a stability in the crazy world and it's actually pretty funny to watch.
Whatta ride...made it yesterdaythrough the first 4 episodes of the new twin peaks and i didn't think that it would be this great! fanfckntastic!! i love it!
Mars Attacks....right up there with my fave films. 22 years old :-\

Glad you like it! Not many people did...
And if you think it's a bit weird at the moment, wait until you get to the eighth episode... :o
Probably my favourite TV show of the last couple of years.
I was going to post the 'Black Mirror' trailer but Pol beat me to it. Can't wait for that one... be interesting to see how the non-Netflix subscribers get around THAT! ???
Reign of Fire. Cant stand Christian Bale and it aint the greatest film in the world, but I quite like it.
Erm. Ive never ever watched it. Doesnt float my boat. I saw on Netflix it was listed as a comedy. Not sure if thats right.
And no. They were crap ;D
50 quid says you dont turn up to Nottingham in a Huey Lewis top :)Erm. Ive never ever watched it. Doesnt float my boat. I saw on Netflix it was listed as a comedy. Not sure if thats right.

American Psycho is a great film, honestly. Do check it out... it's sort of a comedy and sort of a horror flick...
And, hey, don't take the piss out of Mr Lewis and his fine musical combo! Saw them live at the Birmingham NEC in 1988 and they ROCKED! ;D

..Rami Malek has some talent. ....
Just watched Bohemian Rhapsody. Great film. Their music played a huge part of my formative years and I think it makes a great story.
Yeah. I heard theyre on the breadline these days! Without a doubt there are some timeline inaccuracies, but the story itself stays the same. It could have gone badly wrong.Just watched Bohemian Rhapsody. Great film. Their music played a huge part of my formative years and I think it makes a great story.
It was an enjoyable watch, indeed! Bit cheesy in places and it certainly plays a bit hard and loose with the facts, but what the heck... it's not a documentary, it's a fun watch. $600 million in worldwide sales? Damn, i bet Queen made a shit-ton of money last Christmas! ;)
Yep he was pretty good in pacific.
The punisher season 2 .
Frank is back to kick more arse .
Split- Quite enjoying this. I do like M.Knight Shyamalan's movies. Endings are sometimes a bit weak though.
Vice - well I'm far from an expert on American politics but fckn hell this is powerful stuff. Dick Cheney basically pull the wool over Americas and Tony Blair's eye for financial gain and starts a war .
A must watch !!!
Vice - well I'm far from an expert on American politicsHere's something you should know: Dick Cheney was despised more than any other politician in America. Even more than Nixon. Nixon was a creep. Cheney was evil.
A quiet place. I didnt really give it my full attention first time of watching. Its actually a very good film.
After reading Master Ray's post about The Guard i clicked on the link and could'nt believe how funny it was :D..........have just ordered DVD from Amazon (used very good)..for £2.60..............so thank you for that.
Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri- There is not one happy character storyline throughout the entire film. Its content is very bleak and dark. And yet each character has a depth of goodness inside, amongst all the crap life throws at them. Wonderful, wonderful film.

Think I recommend creed 2 a while back. Best rocky since 3 imo
Flash Gordon- Because why the hell not!!Bunny, are you from the USA?
The Godfather 3
Errrrm
So, who saw 'This Time With Alan Partridge'? Big Steve Coogan fan here and Mr P is one of my favourite comedic characters ever... still, I'm a bit in two minds about the new show. Some very funny / awkward moments (and the actress playing his co-host was excellent) but it's like the movie that was out a few years ago... kind of 'meh'... :-[
Still, the series might improve so I'll stick with it...
How does mj get away with it, he is still hugely popular, his songs are regularly played. It's like oh well he good so that doesn't matter..
.
Oh, and I just stuck on my Blu Ray of 'First Blood' in case anyone thought my last recommendation wasn't 'manly' enough... :D
Deffo a toss-up between this masterpiece and the original 'Rocky' as to Stallone's best picture (Nighthawks might be a close third)...
Just watching that now. Much much better. Think this is gonna be a slow burner.
This Time With Alan Partridge... liked the second episode much more than the first, I'll deffo be sticking with this show.
Glad you're liking Lost, Pol, I loved it back in the day, although I never got around to finishing it...
Just finished the penultimate episode of s9 of 'Shameless USA'... still very good, but one of the main characters is leaving after this series, which I think will kill it... oh, and the 'next episode' clip, basically blew the whole of the storyline for the final episode... >:(

The third one the best so far (imho)....as you say a slow burner, the comments he mutters about his ex-wife brilliant.Mate you aint wrong. Fantastic!!!
For the life of me I dont understand how people throw the "He was a child"line in his defence. How is it then, given that he wrote his own songs, they features some adult topics and lyrics. Instead of rainbows, toys and jelly.
So, got around to seeing 'Leaving Neverland', most of the first part anyway. Had to turn it off, not sure if I can continue... shocked, saddened, angry as fu-ck. I don't have kids but if I did, I can't imagine letting them spend time snuggling up in bed with a man in his thirties. 'Oh, he flew us all over the world first class, he's just an innocent man-child, we really liked him...' >:(
What the f uck is wrong with these stupid parents? Maybe there's some explanation later on, I will finish watching this show in the hope of some justification at some point, but right now... I need a break.

... 'tough watches' (heck, give 'Night Will Fall', a stunning documentary about The Holocaust, if you haven't already).
Yes a much better second half...........the best team won..Depends which side of the Black Country you come from :-X
The only thing I care about in The Black Country are those Orange Chips, as I discovered when I saw NMA in Bilston... ;DIts a weekly luxury for me!!! Currently watching Stan and Ollie. Both play good parts, but it aint grabbing me and I love Laurel and Hardy :-[
Second watch. Yup I get it. Good film, great story. Are you referring to the continued writing bit?
Hope you stick with it until the end... there was something mentioned in the end credits that I thought was truly moving... :'(

Season 5 lost - yeah it's getting even more fckd up lol
Just watched the final episode of The Ripper Files, excellent as you would expect from BBC4.I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but what a lash up the Police made of the investigation. And thank God peoples attitudes towards women have changed since then......well most peoples..
The Thing. The original version. SFX are a bit dated but its still a good movie.
The Thing. The original version. SFX are a bit dated but its still a good movie."A good movie." Boy, that takes the prize for the biggest understatement ever uttered.
I have just watched Laura Kuenssberg '' The Brexit Storm ''......what a great doc.
Don't know if it was me,but i found Mr.Partridges last show a bit tame.I shall watch it again to make sure...still,5 gems out of 6 is fine by me. A truly brilliant series, hope another one is on the cards.. ;D ;D
Only found that out after a bit of googling after watching the film. Tbh mate most things before 1970 only exist on paper ::)The Thing. The original version. SFX are a bit dated but its still a good movie.
Er, do you mean 'The Thing From Another World' (1951)? The ORIGINAL version of 'The Thing'?
Yours sincerely, That Movie Captain Pedantic. ;)
Steve Hillage
Don`t understand the connection to the movie :(
But Hillage today is an unknown musician (solo things, Gong, googlehim or ask wiki or ), and works with a lot of artists:
Salif Keita https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tZnryr8UHk
Wow? I thought it was good from the off. You surprised me there.
Just watched Sunshine on the plane from Spain. First watch for me. It has its flaws but quite enjoyed it.
Hobo With A Shotgun.............anybody else on here watched it ?..if so comments please.....agree totally Master Ray Jackie Brown also my favourite Tarantino film...
Captain Marvel
Captain Marvel
And did you like it? I certainly did, a great fun watch. Although the way they seemed to portray the mid 90's as some far gone era to be laughed at (Blockbuster Video? Sound files that take two minutes to load?) depressed me a bit... FFS, those were my prime years! :-\
Sisters. Theyre doing it for themselves nowadays ;)Captain Marvel

I did enjoy it yeah, good fun. For some reason i found the "Roit Gurl" all female fronted bands sound track upset me. I think I felt it was overtly and unnecessarily "Right on" and PC to co-inside with the "Strong Female" main character.
Didn't feel good to me, not sure why... maybe slightly patronising...might have to take that to my therapist next week to find out whats going on for me there !
???
Chappie.....it works for me. Love that film.
Quite agree. I tried watching it but lost interest after half an hour.
Just watched 'Aquaman'... damn, how can a film be so full of action, so visually spectacular... and also be so bloody boring? I fell asleep twice and I hadn't even been drinking when I watched it. ::)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDkg3h8PCVU
Dredd- Loved the comics and this is a pretty good film too.
Chernobyl - well we all kinda know what happened. This hbo mini series gives a more detailed look at the actual events and just how close we were to a major catastrophe. Definitely worth a watch imo
Chernobyl - Deffo on my watchlist, despite some sniffy reviews online..
Once again BBC4 deliver on a subject/type of music you may not always like or be interested in..........the making of Saturday Night Fever. What a great programme .In fact so good i have just ordered DVD from Amazon..............I have to confess i have always liked the BeeGees.............and before you mock listen to the album''Size isn't everything''...a brilliant album.. 8)..

Episode 2 confirms it as being a "must watch"? No, I confirmed it as being a "must watch" a number of posts back.
Yup, ep 2 of Chernobyl confirm it as being a must-watch.
I fully agree. Just finished the latest re-read of the book today and watched Episode 1 right away. Very close to the book in a very good way. :) Also David Tennant nails Crowley as if the character had been written for him.
Episode 1 of Good Omens... love the book and this is a pretty decent adaptation, well worth a look...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUJoR4vlIIs
Just gave ep 2 of 'The Virtues' a watch. Dammit, this is a tough watch (brilliant performances) but so compelling. Think I'm gonna need to stick on something that's a lot lighter to send me off to bed tonight...
Watching episode 1 of the new black mirror, yeah another vr one , Spoiler - does that mean they are gay/bi ,fk knows guess ive never thot of vr that way . Anyway another good yin from CB n co certainty very thot provocative
Episode 2 new black mirror. Fk wot can I say , probably the darkest sadest episode ever , almost brought a cry tear to my eye . Bet something like this has most likely happened .
Gotta leave the post with some a perfect circle.
https://youtu.be/BIsH686xWl0
Black mirror 5/3 . My least favourite out the 3 but still entertaining. Kudos to Miley Cyrus you've gained some respect
.
...it's a toss-up between this and Chernobyl as to the best TV of the year. ...
A very poor first half performance by Scotland ….They need to improve massively in the second half to avoid a heavy defeat and almost certain elimination from the competition........
Against a team of amateurs with a 5'5'' Goal Keeper..... ::)....
To Live And Die In LA. One of the finest 80's crime movies. Great cast, terrific script, and it still manages to be a proper nasty hardcore flick even when it has a soundtrack by bloody Wang Chung!
And I'll say that there are no 'good guys' in this film, just varying shades of 'bastard'...

Yes it's very good, very stylish...William Petersen is good in it and even more in "Manhunter"! The guy acted in two of the finest thrillers from the 80's and he wasn't a star at the time because both of these movies bombed at the box office! :o
.
The Wild Geese. One of my favourite films ever.
'Emile! Emile!' :'(
The Cameroon players and the Referee should be totally ashamed of themselves, the players for a total lack of discipline and the Ref.lost total control and failed to stamp her authority on the game.........shambles.And if England don't improve and play like that against Norway i feel that game will be the end of their World Cup..we shall see... >:(....
Wow, what a performance by England their best so far in the tournament...........
Shaft . So Samuel L Jackson is back to play shaft n this time his son is fbi. Really entertaining.
…..a pretty decent USA team on the night. USA were the better team.....
Yeah it's pretty decent, seen a lot worse for sure . Nice wee cameo appearance from the original shaft . Not many good films around on decent hd quality.
Very good artist when he first started out, up until 1976ish. Cant say im that bothered to go watch it though.
Quite surprised how much I enjoyed the Elton John biopic 'Rocketman', I can't say I'm a fan (although I do like some of his 70's stuff, c'mon, who doesn't like Tiny Dancer ;D) but it was a pretty good film, great performances. And unlike the recent Queen film, it didn't gloss over the more hedonistic aspects of his life... trailer below.

Daddys Home 2....a load of saftness but I enjoy it.
The Other Guys is brilliantly funny. One of my favourites. Im going to have to give Holmes and Watson another try but struggled with itQuoteDaddys Home 2....a load of saftness but I enjoy it.
Ferrell and Wahlberg are a very funny duo! I have seen "The other Guys" so often and it keeps being funny. Daddys Home had its moments, was a nice comedy and the second part was also watchable, but The other Guys is a blast.
I've just seen "Holmes & Watson" with Will Ferrell and John C. Riley and found it very, very funny. I would have to say, that "Stepbrothers" by this team is better, has more class and story and a better ensemble with funny side storys, but nevertheless was "Holmes & Watson" the silly, stupid, slapstick comedy i do love.
The Other Guys is brilliantly funny. One of my favourites. Im going to have to give Holmes and Watson another try but struggled with itHere's what i wrote on letterboxd about it:
I did. But again it didnt grab me straight off. I need to give it another watch too. It's definately worth a second watch. I must admit that the first time, when i started the movie, i went and tried to change my audio and language options and checking if the disc was faulty for about 20 minutes...and then i laughed;-)
YESTERDAY
(https://aceshowbiz.com/images/still/preview/yesterday-poster01.jpg)
Fantastic time at the movies. Light and airy and funny (with some effective poignant moments here and there).
And, yes, the joke about Oasis is the laugh of the year.
ODI World Cup Cricket Final, what a game ,you could'nt have made it up...respect to both sides for making it such an excellent final.............well done England, bad luck New Zealand........two evenly matched teams...neither side deserved to lose.I can watch cricket occasionally, but not a huge fan of test matches. One day matches are more my thing. But yeah, absolutely fantastic game. You couldnt write the script for it. The 6 from a dive to be in was so so lucky but by god it was a game of ups and downs. And England won something for a change!!!
.
Just watched Louis Theroux's third BBC documentary about The Westboro Baptist Church,
I think one of them have their own Law Firm.?......
Boris Johnson speech...............God help us all........... :-[.......Living with the same kind of shit in last 17 years in my country and I hope god helps you all..Didn't help us unfortunately and the price is too heavy now :(
It's actually better than BLOW-UP.
Blow Out, great film.
Brightburn....what a cracking idea for a film. Anti-hero/horror film. Well worth a watch.
Genau!;-) "In die Heia" means to go to bed.
And i'm now at episode 6 and it really, really has some powerful moments. Very good dialogues, what they say and how they say it in the context of the situations, about bringing the story further, is just painful good sometimes. The setting of the super hero world being smashed so insightful and the story twists are very often surprisingly consistent.
Have just watched ''FAMILY GUY '' Stewie Griffin The Untold Story....... ;D ;D ;D........brilliant...
This is football - much much more than a football programme. 1st episode shows how the game helped rebuild Rwanda after the civil war . Definitely worth a watch even if your not into football.
Think it's on Amazon prime ( officially at least) . 1st episode was excellent. Over a million killed in 10 days in the Rwandan genocide. How the game helped rebuild. Lots of them are Liverpool fans as well .
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood - latest Quentin Tarantino film..
Umm,yeah. It's "A Tarantino".
Not quite sure what to make of it really.
see it yourselves and make up your own minds.
Sorry but how can anyone criticise Tarantino, the guys a fkn genius, a total legend..
So, I checked out 'Once Upon A Time In Hollywood'... it wasn't quite what I was expecting but I don't want to spoil it for anyone. Yes, it's very overlong, 20 or so minutes shaved off the running time might have made a better picture. I think everybody here would know that going in. But... this isn't one about a tightly-written storyline. It's about mood and character and evoking a certain period in Hollywood history. The performances are great, some of the scenes are the best Tarantino ever filmed, the cinematography is terrific and, unlike many people on the internet, I loved the ending. I loved it and will deffo watch it again, but there seemed to be some very unhappy punters coming out of the cinema afterwards... if anyone whose seen it wants to talk about it, post (with BIG SPOILER WARNINGS) and I'll respond... ;)
Love tbat film. But 13 years ago?? Sheeeesh
Anyone remember 'Blood Diamond' from 2006? Picked it up yesterday on Blu-Ray for a quid in a charity shop, watched it this afternoon... I think I only saw it the once, over a decade ago, probably rented it from Blockbuster. And what a damn good film it is. Trailer beneath, anyone else remember this one?

Last week I saw Crawlers, which was fun. It's like Jaws but with Alligators and Angel Has Fallen, which was the same as all the other "Has Fallen" films. again, nothing mind blowing, just a corny bit of guess what's gonna happen next...and yeah...it does !
:)
Taking my eldest to see it on Thursday. I didnt take to the trailers, but its warmed on me. I fancy ill enjoy it more because it isnt a superhero movie.
That new film 'Joker'....
Well, that was a slice of cinematic awesomeness. Joaquin Phoenix , best actor of his generation? I'd certainly say so... although I feel slightly sorry for fellow cinema-goers who were probably expecting a 'superhero movie' and expecting Batman to show up and punch him or something... a dark and disturbing film indeed. Trailer below....

He's 21. Im not sure that his brain has aged yet ;)
It's deffo more 'Taxi Driver' than 'The Avengers'... if your eldest likes deep and dark films, you'll be fine.
Got around to watching 'Crawl' a watch, which WW recommended... yeah, it's not a classic but a good fun horror film about alligators... worth a punt after a hard day and you're feeling undemanding. As ever, trailer below...

Holy hell!!! Was it ever dark. If he doesnt win a plethora of awards for that role, Ill be stunned. Fantastic glimpse into a psychotic mind....and yet part of me wanted him to turn out alright. Stunning film.

Have just watched ERASERHEAD (again) on DVD,i still find it as disturbing and bizarre as the first time i saw it many, many years ago,i actually still have my VHS copy.An absolute classic (imho).. 8)...as an aside you can listen to the whole soundtrack from the film on Youtube Music..........go on give it a go...
Latest Shaun The Sheep film: Farmageddon.

Really? Sad to hear it! Aardman usually deliver the goods... was looking forward to it!
Have just watched the French gorefest that is Frontiers,a charming little tale of Nazis, cannibals and incest....was going to have a nice mixed grill, pork chop, sausages and black pudding for my evening meal...think i'll have a salad instead.. ;D...

Frontiers is, indeed, a very 'strong' film... I still think that Martyrs tops it, though, simply because the central concept is just so damn WRONG! :-\
Thanks for the tip Master Ray,have just ordered a copy of Martyrs on DVD from Amazon for the princely sum of 6.32 inc.postage....
Joker.I think its best left as is. Its a one off film and made more powerful by being so. Dear God, I hope they dont tarnish it with a franchise
Wow.
No plot spoilers.
Whole now outlook on him.
Whole new franchise ?
I blimmin hope so.

Have just watched Martyrs,it has to be one of, if not the most disturbing and violent films i have ever seen...i was pleased that the ending gave the brutal violence an explanation....a film i shall not be watching again in a hurry... :-\...
Thank you for that,i have just ordered a copy from Amazon......really cheap,in fact the postage cost more than the film... ::)...still,six quid all in is pretty good..
Gave the first episode of that new Star Wars TV show, 'The Mandalorian', a go. Do people still describe things that are desperately mediocre as being 'meh'? If so, it was meh. Doubt I'll bother with the rest of it.
"Greg Davies, looking for Kes" on BBC4. Light hearted documentary about the classic film including re-visiting some of the locations with the original Billy Casper .
Good stuff.
I have just watched ''The Butterfly Effect'' the directors cut, different ending to the cinema release, there are actually four different endings....I know the film gets a bit of flak, and yes there are holes in the plot but i really enjoyed it. I had seen it at the cinema when it first came out and did'nt like it at all back then....tastes change i suppose....
Well i have now watched Switchblade Romance (Haute Tension).which as a title i prefer sums it up perfectly..it is a tense as hell.Wow what a film, actually watched it twice, the film plus afterwards the film with commentary by Alexandre Aja and Cecile De France which was very interesting.A brilliant film very bloody but still very atmospheric a definite cut above most slasher films it is so much more than that......i would highly recommend it...great stuff...
Fighting with my family- Quite a funny film and based on a true story.
I'm not watching it right now, but I would very much recommend 1917. What a film.
Went on Sunday with my partner and we were going to go out for a meal after. When we left she turned to me and we both said we needed to go home as we just didn't feel like going out after it finished. It just didn't seem right.
What a brilliant, exciting (but not in a blockbuster way), nail biting, affecting film. And I say that as a guy who does not really do extremes of emotion.
Terminator - started good thought the cgi and effects were excellent but rapidly faded into the same old.My thoughts exactly re Terminator. Glad to see you back bud 😊
1917 - brilliant cinematography but pretty boring
''This Country'' series 3 episode 1.....A Letter From Sluggs, brilliant stuff, very poignant as the actor who played Sluggs passed away before the new series started. The acting is superb and the script brilliant, they say this will be the last series.....i really hope it is'nt...
Can you please keep an eye out for a foot spa.......... ;D...
Just been to see Parasite.
Strange in a good way.
This Country episode 2 ''The Driving Lesson'',it just gets better and better the acting is superb and the scripts are wonderful.........a work of sheer genius (imho).....I will never ever look at the roots on a parsnip the same way again... ;D...
This Country episode 3 ''Cynthia''...excellent as usual very poignant and remember leaving Pringle shards on the arm of the sofa.....you don't come back from that and rightly so.. ;D...
This Country episode 4 ''Kurtan's Half Brother''another classic episode....so many brilliant lines, one thing for certain ''Murder On The Dodgems''must go down as one of the greatest short stories ever.. ;D ;D ;D...
Jojo Rabbit.....Funny and sad in parts, but very cleverly done. Very good film.
This Country and yes this was the final episode.........a very moving, poignant end to what has been one of the best TV series in a long time (imho).....i shall miss it.
Birds of prey ? The Harley Quinn film
Meh at best
Watching Line Of Duty right from the first programme. I never saw this because I was either at college or studying.
Loving it !
On series 2.
:)
Thanks for that, got a pretty poor 6 right....what was yours ?.......plus say hello to The Vicar if you see him, hope he remembers to wear his stab vest.. ;D...

Brilliant show.... the very first series is a bit overlooked IMO, I loved it.
From s2 - s4 is a fine watch indeed, personally I thought s5 got a bit convoluted but whatever, plenty of people enjoyed it. It's a fine show indeed!
Coup[le of film recommendations for ya!
Firstly, 'The Gentlemen', Guy Ritchie does another UK gangster picture, so you know it's full of proper naughty geezers and a few CAHHNNNTS! ;D Really enjoyable film, very funny, and when the heck did Hugh Grant go from being a floppy haired romantic comedy fella into a really good actor, as he is here? Trailer below/...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ify9S7hj480
And if you're a Black Mirror / David Lynch / weird film lover, let me recommend 'Vivarium'... this one'll do your head in, brilliantly acted and odd as fook... don't want to ruin it for you so I'll say no more except for, as ever, trailer below...

Well done with the quiz, you obv.paid more attention than me.......reminds me of hearing ''Pay attention you at the back''from my school days.. ::)..
BBC 4 Top Of The Pops just shown a clip of Green And Grey........... 8)...... 8)
Have watched the final two episodes of TWIN a Norwegian drama on BBC4,a really good story, great acting, beautiful scenery and an excellent soundtrack....loved it...
Just finished watching ''Mayans MC '' season two, really enjoyed it.. 8)..
When the wind blows - old comic, but nothing to laugh (atomic bomb)
corona is nothing to laugh about, too ...
I was in my early Primary School Days, maybe 7 0r 8, when 'When The Wind Blows' was released. I will always remember my form class and another being sat down to watch it. Scared the absolute shite out of me at the time. Having watched it back since it is a truly amazing and scary piece of animation. Not quite The Snowman eh?
Do i get a prize if i guess where you got it from... ;D..
Fahrenheit 11/9.....lays in to the D man quite rightly but also shows Obama in a negative light. Bit all over the place compared to 9/11 and grates a bit if im honest. All well and good slating the elite, but to make money off them, thus entering the financial elite? Im not sure.
Just found out that all eighteen episodes of Black Books are in Youtube :)
As descriptors go, that made me chuckle....said the commenter, known as the Commenter :) :D :)
Oh, visits to the cinema, how I have missed thee...
So this afternoon I watched Tenet, the storyline is, basically, some secret agent protagonist called The Protagonist fights cosmic incursions from an apocalyptic future whilst time flows forward and backward (often in the same scene) and it all goes a bit timey-wimey, as a certain Doctor once said.
It's utterly brilliant and utterly baffling (I think I understood about 70% of it) but dammit, it is truly spectacular and if it sounds like your cup of tea then shove it in your eyes at the biggest screen you can find.
;)
There are Youtube videos trying to explain how Tenet works... and to be honest they are just as confusing as the film! :o
No matter, it's so spectacular and mind-blowing, see it at the cinema if you dare risk it!
Justin & Dean Live at Forum Bielefeld 2011..............just brilliant.. 8)...
If i could knit the socks...i would watch a great, suspenseful snooker match, about 3 to 5 hours;-)
But maybe, just maybe, .. there are some people in the world, who don't find snooker to be as action-packed and suspenseful as me;-)
So what about this movie:
The Deep (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZO3_lyncX4[/url)
Its about the story which the song Conversations on From Here is about.
Just a suggestion because you asked, haven't seen it yet for myself.
Continuing the nautical theme...
"Philosophy of Sailing": Solo to Hawaii and Return, 2017
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z5m9yT06Khg
Mike Leigh's ''Nuts In May''....have'nt watched it for a few years,i still think it is one of the funniest TV plays ever........alongside Abigail's Party. ;D......the characters are brilliant....i laughed as much as i did on the other occasions i have watched it......wonderful stuff as usual from Mr.Leigh....
Hi Anna, long time no post.......the whole film of Nuts In May is on YouTube, and yes you must chew your food for that long .. ;D...
One of the first movies i've seen in theaters, i was only 6...a big shock for me in December 1984...GREMLINS!!!:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y7GHa9ix9Y&ab_channel=MickGarrisInterviews
''Scream For Me Sarajevo'' BBC4 Doc.about Bruce Dickinson concert in war torn Sarajevo....i am not a Dickinson/Maiden fan but found it very interesting and moving....well worth a watch (imho)..
''The Serpent'' crime thriller based on the true story of murderer/conman Charles Sobhraj.....it has a few issues, but rather good all the same..
Finally got around to finishing The Serpent a few nights ago, truly excellent, a sure fire and early candidate for Best Show Of 2021...
Snakes on a plane.
I mean, absolute tosh, but really fun too ;D
Oh and for the Marvel fans. If you get chance, watch Wandavision on Disney +
In that vein, has anyone watched doom patrol?
great series and has the resident alien bloke in it
The Village...by M.Night Shyamalan.
An old film now I guess, that I havent watched in ages. A very young Jessica Chastain amongst a few famous faces.
I care a lot. Not a bad film. Two pretty odious leads and you dont want to "win" in the story itself. Good film though, slightly too long but Rosamund Pike is really good.
Definitely one to watch mate. These streaming channels are putting some half decent stuff out.I care a lot. Not a bad film. Two pretty odious leads and you dont want to "win" in the story itself. Good film though, slightly too long but Rosamund Pike is really good.
It's on my list, I've heard good things.
Coming 2 America.....dreadful. Absolutely dreadful.
I think you msnaged 25 mins longer than me!!!Coming 2 America.....dreadful. Absolutely dreadful.
I lasted 40 mins, which is shame as Eddie Murphy also did Dolemite is My Name which is actually a pretty good story about the blaxploitation movie scene and he didn’t do his stupid Beverly Hills Cop laugh once.
Cheers

Pet Semetary....I havent read the book, but the film is a typical Steven King Story. Enjoyed the film too
Two vastly different films I've watched over the last couple of days...
Firstly The Father, which Anthony Hopkins won an Oscar for, a hugely moving film about a man with dementia. As someone who lost two much beloved grandparents to that awful disease, I can't deny that I was somewhat teary throughout. Mr Hopkins certainly deserved his award for that one. Great movie.
And then I saw Godzilla Vs Kong... damn, what a nonsensical thing it was, but a fun nonsensical thing! Basically, Godzilla is attacking humanity and various cities and it's somehow because of... erm... something to do with a whole new inverted world a million miles below the Earths crust... where Kong (who is now living in some Truman Show type biosphere) originally came from, so they try and take Kong back there (with a little girl who he has some psychic connection with, or something) but Kong breaks out and starts fighting with the big lizard and then goes to the underground world and other stuff happens and... well, I kind of lost track of it after that but a big city gets destroyed at the end, I think it was Hong Kong, or possibly Tokyo, with the titular characters just twatting each other and knocking over buildings for a very long time until it goes a bit 'Batman Vs Superman' at the end, if you know what I mean (hopefully you don't, BvsS was just awful)...
So, yeah, not a bad film. ;D

Of the two reviews you posted, my only living regret, is having never heard Barry Norman use "Twatting each other"
I have just finished watching ''A Deadly Union'' a French crime/murder series..........brilliant.
Last night i watched the first show in the new ''Inside No.9'' series....now that was seriously weird...i shall watch it again (as i always do with this prog.).....i find i miss lots of things the first time round...

The Tomorrow War...not a bad film tbh, Chris Pratt is underated imho.. Thank god for Amazon and Netflix when cinemas were closed
Hey bud. Glad to see your and Shush back. Been a while!! No Ive not watched Greenland. But on your recommendation I certainly will. The Tomorrow War...not a bad film tbh, Chris Pratt is underated imho.. Thank god for Amazon and Netflix when cinemas were closed
I can't remember if I mentioned it before but if we're talking about 'Amazon Originals' have you checked out 'Greenland'? Watched it for the second time this afternoon and it's so much better than you might think... basically Gerald Butler tries to save his family as space debris starts crashing into the Earth. Really great movie that I wish I'd seen on the big screen. Plenty of the usual CGI stuff but
(and speaking of big screens, looking forward to Black Widow in a few days, first film I'll be seeing at the cinema since Tenet, at my local Vue with big leather recliners no less!!)
I love Clarkson's farm. Shows the bloke has a heart as well. Very good show and boy does it show how hard farming is!
Have watched all three episodes of ''Write Around The World'' on BBC 4 an excellent series for book lovers...even with the highly annoying Richard E Grant.Plus the artists series, again on BBC 4 featuring Lucien Freud,Paula Rego and one of my favourite artists Leonora Carrington, all wonderful viewing....
PS loved him in ''Withnail And I''..... 8)...
''My Day With Molly Tuttle''..Fletcher Moore spends day with Molly, they paint, chat and play music....wonderful 8)..
Somewhere on an old VHS I've got the "Burnt Offerings" documentary
Guillaume, how about, what are your favourites in French films?
If you’re a bit bored with Marvel have you tried The Boys.
Cheers

'Kneecap' is a brilliant autobiographical film about the Northern Irish hip hop / rap band of the same name and with the musicians playing themselves in a 'mostly true' reenactment of their story. Often very funny, a bit shambolic in a 'Trainspotting' style but it might be my favourite film of 2024, you don't have to be a fan of this kind of this music to appreciate what a great movie this is. Have a look at the trailer...

Binge watching ''This City Is Ours'' BBC1 about Cocaine smuggling family/associates in Liverpool...some critics comments have been a bit sniffy (pardon the pun)...but i am really enjoying it.
