Following a conversation at work this week I realised I've never managed to get anyone to "get" NMA so how would you introduce someone.....
You've got a 3 track EP to do it (actually you've got 2)

EP 2 - Close Your Eyes And Float Away
My Pit EP:
Today Is A Good Day
No Rest
225
My Float EP:
Brave New World II
Nothing Touches
Changing Of The Light (ain't cheating just cos' it's solo :) )
What would you do?

p.s. Think Stormclouds will make into the pit EP sometime soon.

I've got three friends falling in love with NMA. Well it was a long time ago at a time when I first found this awesome band. But there's still one I've always tried to get involved with this. I know he had some preconceptions about NMA. He, for example doesn't like The Mission at all but is a total Levellers fan. (He said to me that NMA sounds like Mission and he doesn't like them.) I've tried to tell him all of the Levellers are old NMA fans, but no... Well, he's a sailor and a homeless vagabond at times. If I could get him see the band in a different view I think he would be "shanghaid" (a sailor term about kidnapping someone into the group) quite well. ;) Well, there's at least two songs he confessed he's into: Vengeance and Vagabonds.
I would try these as "going nuts" list:
-Heroin
-Adrenalin
-Brother
-Southwest
Floating might be:
-Before I Get Old
-Sky In Your Eyes
-(and) Love Songs or Lullaby
-
Nice idea Anna here are mine

2 - And with "Living In The Rose", "Autumn" and "Headlights" I would close my eyes and float away. There.

Hmmm...tough one,
Pit e.p.
1: Here comes the war
2: 51st State
3: Knife
Float e.p.
1: Marrakesh
2: Changing of the light
3: These things
With all the comparisons made to other bands ( levellers, mission, killing joke etc.) I've always wondered why nobody namedrops Leatherface? If Frankie and Justin ever colaborated...wow
-
I could probably do this a hundred times over, but here goes:
Pit:
Orange Tree Roads
Poison Street
Here Comes The War
Float:
Green and Grey
Summer Moors
Aimless Desire
-
So many good ones. I'll pick songs that actually make for the best pit, in my experience, and songs that just kiil your soul when played live
EP 1
The Hunt
Here Comes the War
I Love the World (it just seethes)
(tough to eliminate: 225)
EP 2
Love Songs
Drummy B (Billy McCann)
Dawn
(tough to eliminate: The Attack)
-
Nuts
GMO
Christian Militia
Vengeance
Float
Sky In Your Eyes
Marry the Sea
Red Earth - mellow to mosh worthy
-
Early scores on the doors as they come into the first bend..................
Here Comes The War pulling ahead in the Pit race on a 12% charge closely followed by a bunch of 5 runners on 8% then a small pack of 3 ::) on 5% with a whole herd falling behind on 2% in a field of 24 runners.
Over to the floaty race where Nothing Touches and Changing of the light are starting to forge a lead with 8% but are being chased down by a 7 strong pack on 5% but the bulk of the field is in the 14 strong posse plodding along on 3%.
Potentially still a long way to go in these hotly contested races and with more runners joining the race all the time any runner could mount a surprise challenge to the early leaders. Ooh the excitement...................... :P

My Pit EP:
Poison street
Orange tree roads
Bloodsports
My Float EP:
Happy to be here
Nothing touches
Marry the sea/Rainy Night 65

Following a conversation at work this week, I realised I've never managed to get anyone to "get" NMA.

EP 1 - Go Nuts In The Pit
EP 2 - Close Your Eyes And Float Away

Wow, now this task I think I can manage. Great thread Anna! :)
After careful thought, I chose 6 lesser known and relatively more recent songs.
Each track pulled from different NMA releases. They are:
"Today Is A Good Day"
"Winter"
"Between Wine And Blood"
"Strange Brotherhood"
"Eight"
"Lost Songs"
I think the two EPs are sequenced rather well. They're good enough to send off to rock and alternative / indie radio stations here in Canada. The songs fit well together. There's a running connection / thread within each EP that helps elongate / tell a specific story. Man, I really, really miss programing radio shows. That was the best part of the college Radio and Television Broadcasting Programme I'd enrolled in, back in the 1990s. Couldn't stand the TV part of the programme, though. I loathed being on air. I liked the behind the scenes technical stuff more. Anyway, ended up dropping out of the programme after 1 year (it was a 2 year programme) because my grades were suffering. I still want to do something revolving around music, but I don't know what I'm cut-out for or where my strengths / talents, :-\ if any, lie.
I've had the same problem hooking folk onto NMA/JS, especially women. I'd love to more so hook North American radio stations (particularly Canadian radio stations) onto NMA/JS' repertoire. I believe in NMA/JS. SO many souls are missing out... far too, too many. :-[:'(

2. Paekakariki Beach (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CG-8-h4N1A)

Just poppin' in to add links so that folk can test them out, listen as if they were actually official NMA EPs. Enjoy! :)

Pit:
Get me out
Here comes the war
No Rest
Float:
Green and Grey
Living in the Rose
Before I get old

Since things are a bit quiet right now, I'll have a go. It's a difficult pick, as I'm sure we could all easily create two albums for each category so there's a lot of strong contenders for each I've had to drop, but I've aimed for a spread across the decades with mine.
Pit:
I Love the World
Wonderful Way to Go
Arm Yourselves and Run
Float:
No Pain
Hard Way
Green and Grey
-
EP1
Betcha
The Charge
125mph
EP2
Green and Grey
Ballad
Ocean Rising (I know, I know, not really NMA)
-
I am in the pit whatever the song. The only difference to me is the velocity at which i hit the next person.
-
I always think of ep's having 4 to 6 songs! Anyway....
ep 1
Wonderful Way To Go (I can't believe this has only been mentioned once.... this isn't 'allo 'allo)
Get Me Out
Here Comes The War
ep 2
Lovesongs
Living In The Rose
Drummy B (Billy McCann)
Three from The Love Of Hopeless Causes and it isn't one of my favourite albums of theirs (perhaps I should have thought longer and I may have had different choices?)!
