I think this is the best track on the entire album and one of their best ever.
It remind me a lot of the JS solo album "Navigating my the stars.
Does anyone agree?

Agreed. My favourite track too. Sounds very much like a NBTS track.

Anyone noticed the nod to the intro of "Green and Grey"? The rain and thunder sample and the first few notes of the guitar hint at it. This one might be about Justins trip back to Sawmills for the Matt Reid film (see Justin's essay "Going back to the Sawmill in the BDaW Magazine). Also the phrase "the past is a barren place" is also used in this very essay. The rest of the lyrics make also sense this way, I think.

I can feel a bit of "Headlights" in the song.
The review of BWAB that Viv posted which was a bit negative said - lyrically “Men gone off to foreign wars, to stand beneath the tattered flags…” is just one tired, old cliché too far.
I have to say, when I first listened, I thought similar, but when taken into context with the rest of the lyrics, and understood, it is in fact an apt lyric for the feel of the South Coast.
If ever you were to do a battle field tour of WW1 British Battles, you really should start at the departure points used by the British army on the South Coast. . Points where millions left, not all returned.

The first time i heard the song i got an overwhelming feeling of listening to The Doors.Not a particular but just the mood-as in "Riders on the storm" etc.By the way....i love the song!

Two months later...it's, maybe, my favourite song on the new album, ex aequo with "Devil's bargain". 8)

It's a perfect mini album displaying all facets of the band, Guessing is one of their most powerful tracks ever, a perfect tour de force, not half bad set opener either
