Having given it a week of heavy rotation listening i can confirm pound for pound this is their best release for 23 years! "Beginning" is the best brooding epic since someone like jesus, "Burn the castle" is the best classic NMA anthem since masterace and "Eyes get used to the darkness" is their best punk track since long goodbye, "Devil", "Echo november" and "Weak and strong" and "Die trying" all superb, so just to reitterate this is the best army album for 23 years (imo of course 😀).

Tough call n still early days, imo high is the best lp since lohc , extremely strong songs every one of them, hard to compare as winter is a lot heavier in parts and maybe the most diverse lp to date

A toughie. Theres something fresh and new about this album, with a couple of riffs that hark back to older songs. Im very very impressed and it blows BDAW and BWAB out the water, as good as they were. I dont think you can compare it to albums from previous decades, because they were great in their own time and still are. This is something different for ITS time.

Tough to call. Already for me one of their best albums, and that's without bonding with it deeper from hearing some of it live yet. For me the title would have been - "since Impurity.

I agree,i think it's the most accomplished NMA album from the post "Love of hopeless causes"/"B Sides" era too.
NMA's albums since 1998 are slightly more uneven, but i still like very much "Between wine and blood", "Eight", "Between dog and wolf (despite a few generic tracks on this album) Also some fine tracks on "Today is a good day", "Carnival" and "Strange brotherhood". "Winter" is probably the NMA album i lke the least, but it still has its good moments.

Nah, it's the best one 'till the next one ;D

I only managed to get a copy of the new CD this week and have only listened to it twice whilst out in my car. Anyway after the 2nd listen I thought this is going to be a classic and the best NMA album for a few years

Anyone know when the next one is? ;D
To be honest BDAW still edges Winter for me, but that may change after more plays and hearing it live.

There ain't a bad NMA album so which is bestest becomes a bothersome debate. The new album is brilliant, one of the best of many bests, very much of its time and very much of the current line up really stepping into a space together and producing something wonderful that happened because each of them became part of the group. It's IMO the most together NMA line up since Ceri joined and this is what makes this a special album even tho it's up against many special albums, High, Carnival and yes, BDAW which took ages to grow on me and then wouldn't let go.. Oh and TIAGD ain't half bad either is it?

every time i start listening and it is good music then greta music and then I am hooked to all songs. it has always been like that in the last 26 years since I found out about the band.
-
Nah. It's crap. ;)
You know I'm kidding. One of the very best albums. Seen the lads four times since Winter came out and the fact that a big chunk of the setlists was usually devoted to the 'new stuff' and it went down just as well as the 'old stuff' says a lot. Winter is one of NMA's very best albums. No other opinion is valid. :D

So according to this nice thread, all the best NMA albums were made between "Vengeance" and "the love of hopeless causes"! :):

Not really surprised that the vote went that way tho a bit that the t&c vote was so heavy. Worth remembering that most of vote was probably casual listeners to nma whom I'm guessing hasn't heard the later stuff. Wonder what the vote would be amongst the " hard core " nma fans .

Interesting link there Guillaume, thanks for that. Have overflown it a bit and it is cool to read something about those albums by persons who have just discovered them. Will read more there later.
