Really looking forward to grabbing myself a copy of this. Words here:

Wonder how the music sounds? Listening to a Joolz reading is a mesmerising experience the like of which I've never heard anything close to. Hope one day to get the chance to hear her again  :)

Yes, Sky is the single we offered in January this year. The version of Aleppo found on Soundcloud is an early demo. The version on the CD is more polished :-)

I've ordered a copy of this, but not received it yet. Really looking forward to it. Thanks for the information about Aleppo Henning. Even if the soundcloud version is just a demo, it sounds fantastic. I think Joolz first put that on Soundcloud maybe about a year ago. It gave me goosebumps every time I listened to it.

Rather than wait for a bit of time I decided to make the time..........

I'm gobby and wordy but no wordsmith but here goes with an immediate reaction untempered by consideration and repeated listens.

Wow ! Everything I hoped it might be. Uncomfortable but also somehow comforting listening. There's emotions put into sound that lie somewhere beneath the everyday. Seems as if something remote, distant and not quite touchable is brought to the fore.

Musically I think, Viking/Nordic with a bit of Eastern in there and maybe a bit of classical, seems to be something "folk" too - not twee la de dah fairy stuff : more gritty than that. Maybe a bit gothic (musically and literature) in places too. Apologies if the terminology ain't right but I never did really care about genres and categories  ;D

Lyrically there is the "True Grit" you can expect from Joolz - some scathing cut to the bone words coupled with the heart wrenching compassion and understanding of the human condition that she is so fecking good at.

Immediate stand out tracks are Lazarus,Crow, Fable and a particularly poignant If. And if you can find it in your heart to empathise with the likes of Higher Wall, Die Trying and Part The Waters then Aleppo will chill your heart and posit a mirror to how lucky those of us born in the west really are.

A brilliant partnership between Ms Denby & Mr Nugel - hope there is more to come and that maybe it's something that can be seen live one day.

Thank you both for this  :-*

Thanks a lot Anna for the detailed review! Glad you like the album. You are right, musically it's kind of all through the park. A bit of rock, a bit of folk, a bit of classical and cinematic writing. I tend to write in this strange triangle of styles. The poetry really called out for different styles and instrumentations. And of course I'm a big fan of Joolz and NMA for over 25 years, so that influenced me a lot, too, I guess :-)

Thanks again for buying and listening.
Take care,
Henning
