Title: Spotify
Post by: Rusco on December 27, 2016, 09:57:09 AM
Ok, so I got it now after thinking a long time.

After third try I finally took it and immediately started a premium account. It's a way expensive but I've been glad about Spotify.
Seems like most of the bands or record companies that have prohibited uploading their material on YT have in turn allowed it on Spotify. Or looks quite like that. Well, as we know anyone could go and upload the stuff there, create playlists of their favourite bands, but at least they're not removed from there.

I don't believe using Spotify would prevent me of buying CD's, no. (I've become more and more an album freak and I'm satisfied only when I finally get a real cd or a collector's choice album in my own hands!) At least, there's even some profits the artists can get when you compare it to YouTube that is a total zero that artists get. However, I hope in future the artists get more profits of usage of Spotify and such.

Actually YouTube pay more per play than Spotify. The pay is astonishingly low even with YouTube but Spotify is even less than that...

Ok, cheers and thanks for the correction Viv. I didn't know that. Is the payment from YouTube based on adds? I've heard that people who make video blogs ("vlogs") earn the money from adds.

People can make money from youtube in a few ways, ads , hits , subs , affiliated links and sponsorship. Some people can make a living this way. You probably need a few 100,000 subs though

After a couple of thousand hits there is no option but to have adverts on the song :-( It's very depressing but that's the way of it. YouTube really don't pay anything for the adverts on songs, it's a "**** you" type of deal. If people are making money out of blogs then fair play, but the pay is something like 0.0003p per hit so it's really not a get rich quick type of scheme... Spotify is even less!

Is that a hoax or real?
Should I laugh (hoax) or should I cry (real)?

Well, I've used Spotify now for two weeks. I've felt comfy with it. There are also couple of things that I've found a bit annoying. When browsing releases from some artists, it seems to show all the albums from every artist containing the same artist name. I'm not sure is it because a person that uploaded album thinks it belongs to another artist having the same name. Example goes: I checked albums from a certain prog band called Watchtower and then I find the list including also albums from a same named rap artist although I'm in a Watchtower "homepage". Also, the year of release marked for albums doesn't always match. I think that all of the shared knowledge about bands and releases should be verified well before making them publicly available.
