« on: November 28, 2020, 12:34:05 AM »

I have an Amplifier, large floor standing speakers.

I have a state of the art CD player .

   I have a Turntable.

No expense spared. I'm old now n built my system over te years...

  I'm interested to hear:

How do you listen to your music?

 Headphones off a phone.Spotifiy maybe?

Do you listen at home through a Hi-Fi? Speakers or headphones?

 Do you buy CD's?

  Do you download?

How do you listen?

I love the idea of vinyl, but I have gone for the techie solution of a home-built Linux server running Squeezebox Server. I've then got a Logitech Squeezebox wired in to the network in both front rooms, one in the kitchen and a Squeezebox Boom in the bedroom. They're pretty high quality, but sadly no longer in production by logitech (2 of them sourced from ebay) . The cool thing about then is that you can them all playing in sync with each other. They also do Internet radio, bbc catchup and Spotify (for my kids).

I still buy CDs, (sometimes downloads) , but everything ends up on the server. I've got it set up so if you put a CD in the drawer it should rip it to flac, add the correct metadata from the interwebs and save it to the right place (it doesn't always work). There's a script that replicates the whole music folder to another location as mp3 for copying to phones.

I dont feel theres any need to refer to your ears as wax cylinders tbh ;)

I use streaming for exploring and I have a CD player gathering dust but the real magic happens via a nice record player and some large floorstanders, no headphones for me.

Cheers

If I want to listen without doing anything else
I have a turntable, a cd-player and  standing speakers
I prefer a real cd with a booklet (artwork andprinted lyrics) and the time it takes to start the music  ;)
stopped buying vinyl (but have a lot old ones to play sometimes)
Don`t use a mobile to listen

In my car, I use a copy (mp3 or wav) of my cds

Often use a computer, connected with a tv or cheaper speekers, for internet music/videos

And I`m too silly to set up a linux system (I want to do that, but win 10 and linux on the same computer on 2 parted hdd- all my tests failed ..) >:(

And me, I`ve got a black place in my heart
Still got this hole in me
Perhaps - I am the master of nothing?

When I listen at home it's mostly CDs via amplifier and speakers (not really large - about 40-45 cm in height, I guess). Real physical CDs with nice packaging and all for me as well but mostly copies as my CD-player is nearing 30 and doesn't react kindly to scratches. The originals are kept safe and scratch-free for new copies, if need be. Sometimes I use headphones but I don't think mine are very good.

When on a train mp3 via mobile and in-ear-phones. No streaming or such.

Almost exclusively on my iPod these days or via the internet for new music.

It's not really out of choice though. I just move around a lot which keeps me from accumulating too much stuff. For the most part I like not having much stuff but I do miss a decent music setup. Free standing speakers with a decent amp, a turntable and cd player would be my preferred setup.

I keep telling myself that that will be something to look forward to when I get old and settle somewhere...

Wish I could afford a fancy vinyl player (and, subsequently, vinyl albums... bloody hell, they're expensive!)

So, for me, it's a bog standard CD player and downloads / streaming services online...

Doesn't need to be fancy,  2nd hand  ? Would give you the chance to pick up a few vinyl bargains , most of the regular nma stuff is cheap
