Here's a list of my recent favorites. I think if a film can move you to tears or make you feel other things, then the filmmaker has succeeded.

The Road (based on the book by Cormac McCarthy)
Howl
Hugo
Trainspotting
The Sweet Hereafter
The Motorcycle Diaries
Billy Elliot
Turtles can fly (Which i believe is an Iraqi film)
Persepolis  (Based on the graphic novel)
Babel
Wings of Desire
Pan's Labyrinth ( a visual masterpiece!)
Max (Where Noah Taylor plays a young Hitler)
The Departed.

Films that i can't stand are very violent films such as "Fight club", most Tarantino films and "A clockwork Orange". The first five minutes includes a rape scene with singing. It's sickened me.

Where I'm from is not my home, and neither's where i'm bound.

As for television,,,very little.

I love the original Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents series.
The first two seasons of the X files and Twin Peaks.

But my favorite television series ever is the early (US) LAW AND ORDER when it had a dragnet sort of feel,,,before all the godawful spin-offs,,,,,,,,,,,,I don't mean the UK series, As I have never seen that series.

I am a Film Junkie, so I'll put some thought into a post on films later.

The original twilight zone was an awesome series. Pretty creepy for it's time. I'll never forget the necklace that would strangle it's wearer.

I also used to love the "Prisoner" with Patrick McGoohan. I always wanted to visit the village where it was filmed.
I'm geared towards the averagae rather than the exceptional.

If you love the old Twilight Zones, have you seen the Alfred Hitchock Presents episode titled the Glass Eye?,,,,creepy stuff!

No, I haven't seen it. I miss "creepy" films. They don't seem to make them anymore. Everything seems to be over the top gore or viloence. And I love good gore and violence. I think that's why I liked "woman in black" so much. Felt like I was watching an old Hammer film.
