Live Recording Of Early NMA Gig Where Only The Bass Is Heard?
« on: February 22, 2015, 05:10:49 PM »
I used to have a recording of an early NMA gig that was recorded so horribly, the only thing you can really hear is Morrow's bass. That may sound like a terrible recording to have, but as a fan of the bass playing, I loved that tape. The bass was isolated and I could really study what Morrow was doing.

Anyway, I can't find that recording anymore. I'm bummed out over that. I don't know what gig it was from. Anyone have any idea of what I am talking about? What gig was it? What recording was it? Where I can get another?

Needle in a haystack as Stuart played loads of gigs so without any further info you're going to be struggling!!
Is is a crime to believe in something different?

I meant what I said at the time that I said it

Well, how many Morrow gigs were recorded and released officially/bootlegged?

I guess I downloaded it a number of years ago. It was a really horrible recording, but it was great because it was like having an isolated bass track.

Space, bootlegged NMA gigs (especially from the 80's) are two-a-penny...

Good luck, pal, but I think you're onto a loser there...    :-\

Maybe the bootleggers could help you out!  I do have a few of the earlier recordings knocking about so I could have a listen through and see if I can come up with anything.

The show is The Marquee London June 20th 1984

I searched the internet and came across a blog called "Symphony Of Ghosts." The guy wrote this for the June 20th 1984 London show:

"Sound quality is 'A', well this depends on what you're looking for, if you want to hear Stuarts bass it's a friggin A+ if you want to hear Justin singing or Rob dummin' its a C. It's kinda like a Stuart Morrow show with minor accompaniment by Justin and Rob. "

Now that surely has got to be the show I have been describing and looking for. His link to download the show is dead and gone, but at least I now know specifically what I am looking for: the June 20, 1984 show.

Made me go and check the Zaragoza Spain recording from 23.10.87 but that one is all mics too high, and in fact you can hardly hear the guitar and only a bit 'pre the bass, good one for people practising for an NMA karaoke event tho dos the vocals are crystal clear, sounds like it was recorded out of a mixing desk that was only handling the Mocs and that the instruments with the exception of the drums are just amped. Interesting one tho

Oh, yeah, that is the one.

Man, is the sound on that live tape pretty bad...but it sure is great to hear the wonder of Morrow's bass playing. Incredible document of just how great that guy was.

Thanks, a ton, madphil. Many, many thanks. If you are ever in New York, the drink of your choice is on me. Heck, I'll buy you the whole bar.
