Winter one year on
« on: August 27, 2017, 09:17:16 AM »
So now the dust has settled on "Winter" how do you feel about it one year on? Is it a return to form after a couple of experimental albums or is it a slightly generic album harping back to the past? For me it was a monster, powerful, aggresive, evocative, dark and seriously melodic, i said it was the best since "The love of hopeless causes" at the time, that hasnt changed much for me although listening to "High" recently there's not alot to  choose between them, i would say it was right up there close to their best. So when's the next one guys? The music scene seems so f**king boring right now.

a slightly generic album harping back to the past

one year later it is still my opinion...the album has at times a b-side feel with routine "déjà vu" stuff, but there are also some good moments on the album of course! A minor slightly disappointing NMA album will never be a bad album. ;)

Been busy most of this year so not had the time to listen as much as I would have liked,  Still gonna say that winter n high are the best overall albums taken as a whole since lohc.

Some very strong songs that got into my current top 20 (weak and strong, winter, castle, after something) and can listen to them endlessly.

I like the sound and lyrics. Still think is one of the better ones and a good direction they are heading to .....
I want to dance with the fire cause it´s all that I know

So sit us down, buy us a drink, tell us a good story
Sing us a song we know to be true
I don't give a damn that I never will be worthy
Fear is the only enemy that I still know

I still think Winter is great, and Beginning is still track on the album for me. Strangely I was never a great fan of High, perhaps it never got the listens it deserved at the time

It's one of my very favourites, right up there with Impurity, The Ghost Of Cain and High.  Last time I saw NMA (Bilston), they must have played half the album and those tracks went down just as well as the old classics, so I guess I'm not alone in that opinion.

It is great - "Winter" is the bottom line of everything NMA has ever published before. It is dark but always with this tiny ray of hope that makes the future looks a little brighter than it actually is.  I love the jam session at the end of Beginning and i would like to hear a liveversion of this lasting at least half an hour. So hypnotic.

And also all these other songs like "EGUTTED", "Strogoula" or "Born Feral" are very significant musical landmarks on the band's journey ahead. No dust on my record so far.

Blimey a year already? You sure  :D

Stands up there with the rest of the NMA cannon, some really great stuff on there which comes into it's own when heard live - esp. Born Feral.

Eyes get used to the darkness and Beginning still staying at the top of my list but the whole album gets played on a regular basis.

Still love all the songs as I did after the first few listens...and still the same couple Im not mad about. Very fine album.

One year on...and I still haven't listened to it yet!  I still have the anticipation of it, while you guys are in a "been there, done that" situation. I still have something new from NMA to listen to. Try it with the next NMA release. DON'T listen to it for a loooong while. Let the buzz of the release die down, let the back and forth talk of it die down...then it is all yours and yours alone to savor.
