Hello
I am currently working on an article about NMA for Negative Insight (https://www.negativeinsight.com). I am trying to focus primarily on the formative years of the band (1980-1984) but there is very little information and content out there regarding this period.
Up until the first EPs coming out in 1983, there isn't much I can locate in terms of photos, flyers, artifacts, etc. I figured this forum would be the best place to reach out to people who might be able to contribute.
If you have any interest in helping out, please send me a message here. Thank you in advance!
Cheers!
- Max
Greetings Max,
About 15 years ago, there was a forum member that went by the name "Ottodeth" who used to frequent these pages on a regular basis. He collected, ran, and maintained an extraordinary blog of a
lot bootlegs and other such gems, from NMA, as well as an impressive number (and variety) of other bands, musical artists. I'm not sure if this will be of any help to you, but it might be worth a try.
Symphonyofghosts.blogspot.com is the link to Ottodeth's most impressive, fantastic, wonderfully and musically rich blog. Hopefully the links still work. If not, maybe they'll ignite a spark and guide you in some other, yet still helpful direction.
I'd also highly recommend you get yourself a proper DVD copy of
(director) Matt Reid's documentary "Between Dog and Wolf - The New Model Army Story". You can pick it up in
the online shop. I haven't mustered up the courage of watching it myself, as of yet,
(seriously, too long and personal of a story to get into on here, right now), but from what I understand, it focuses on earlier NMA, but just how early, I don't know yet. I'm positive you'll be able to find
a lot of useful details, info, from it, within it.
I am terribly compelled to ask, though, Max... why not get in touch with NMA's management team and formally request some kind of interview with
Mr.
Sullivan? Articles are great, but an actual interview would be beyond awesome!
Ahhh, but then I would say that.
*daydreamingly sighs* It's been a long time since I've read or seen a new one. Actually, I don't think there's been done one thus far, this year. Well, not any that I've found.
(If anyone knows of any interviews done in 2020, please let me know?) Which is difficult these days because, most NMA details are reserved for other social outlets, namely Facebook and Twitter, rather than this place - the
original NMA base - a.k.a. for me, their
real home.
As a long-time NMA devotee, I'd like to express heartfelt thanks to you Max, for making the effort and taking the time to write, and effectively, spread the good word about everything NMA/JS - their music, body of work, repertoire, etc. I mean that so
strongly. Thank you.
I hope you'll jump back in here to let us know when, how, and where we can read your NMA piece. Take care and...
Best wishes,
