I love smoking. If they were cheap and had no effect on my health I'd quite happily get through 20 a day, like I used to do in the 90's.
But. I seem to have reached a personal conclusion that it's a psychological thing rather than a chemical dependency with subsequent after effects... by which I mean I've trained myself to smoke when I want to and not smoke when I don't.
To elaborate, I smoke maybe 10-15 ciggies a month. And those will be over two or three separate nights (usually when I've had a drink, which I've also massively cut back on , but that's another thread

). Sometimes not even that! Vaping never worked for me, what can I say, I'm old school.

But I feel absolutely NO cravings the rest of the time, even when I've got a half-finished pack in a drawer somewhere. Not the slightest inclination until I decide 'OK, this is going to be a rare smoking night, I deserve it, where's my lighter!' and then I'll indulge and, afterwards, forget about it until the next time. Might be a week or two later with, as I said, zero cravings.
I'm quite happy with this arrangement. Yes, I know I should give up completely, but fook it, I'm getting old, I'll take my pleasures where I can get them! Sorry if it sounds a bit smug to anyone whose struggling to give up but that's just my experience. Other experiences may differ!
