What bands are you going to see?
« on: February 15, 2026, 11:07:10 PM »
I'm sure there used to be a thread about this...

I still try and get to see as many bands as I can.  Live music is my greatest joy in terms of what makes a good night out (despite my general bodily creakiness), so far this year I've got tickets for

Peter Capaldi (yes, the 12th Doctor, he's got a band!), Manchester, March.

JimBob (ex of Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine), Manchester, March.

The Cure, Manchester, August.

Sisters Of Mercy, Nottingham, September.

Marillion, Manchester, September.

Who you guys going to see?

I'm still pissed that i couldn't make it to Tortoise in cologne end of January, because i was broke suddenly and hadn't gotten the paycheck already. Well, i tend to forget some debits of invoices and this time it was again very bad timing...

But i will see PREYRS in cologne im march, maybe i will also go to Offenbach two days later because i have some holidays then (starting my new job with holidays 8), and in may i will see The Sword in Hamburg, these guys just rock!, and i will go to Oelde to see NMA end of may.

SAMANTHA FISH, March. I already saw her last year, excellent concert in Paris, she is a good songwriter (her latest album "Paper doll" is very good, but the previous ones are also worth listening to), a superb Blues Rock singer and an excellent guitarist.

MICHELLE BLADES and FLORA HIBBERD, March. I know very little about these two artists, but since they are playing in my city and the ticket prices are reasonable, I'll go!

MEMORIALS and CHATON LAVEUR, April.  I know very little about these two artists, but since they are playing in my city and the ticket prices are reasonable, I'll go!

THE GATHERING, May...maybe, it will depend of the money i have! I'm a bit mixed about The Gathering's music, but Anneke Van Giersbergen has a beautiful voice, so..

NEW MODEL ARMY/JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS/FOOLS GARDEN/EUROPE...June.  A cool little "retro", "old school" music festival specializing in old bands...if I have enough money in June I'll go for NMA...the Joan Jett concert might be cool too.

Also in June, there's the "Ça sonne à la porte" festival in Grossoeuvre, ten kilometers from my home. A FREE festival for the past twenty years, it features local and international bands... a great little festival with a friendly, family atmosphere. I don't have the lineup yet, but if you're interested, I'll post it when their website puts it online; early June at the latest.

I love going to concerts, but since most of the bands I want to see don't play in my city, it requires a good budget (concert tickets, train fare, and hotel room) that I can't always afford. The irony is that when I lived and worked in Paris, I never went to concerts (or only to free outdoor festivals in the summer). It's only since I moved away that I've often wanted to go to concerts! Luckily, we have a nice little indie Rock venue in my town, but since I live in a small town of 50,000 inhabitants, to see the well-known/"bigger" bands I have to go to Paris or Rouen (the first big city 50 kilometers away from my smalltown).

I was living for more than 12 years in "the big city" cologne and my hometown is also about 50km distant to it. I think cologne ia a very good city for live music, to live there is another topic, but also to have a good infrastructure of subways to get you where you need to go, and most important, later back to your home. A great luxury to have. And the variety of music styles and artists who come to cologne is huge, so i feel for my music taste cologne delivered good. I saw The Sword two times in cologne and i'm a little bit disappointed when i found out that they only play in Hamburg and Berlin this tour, but i love this band so much that i just had to buy a ticket and now i have to figure out how to organize this, travel & hotel. I estimate this will cost me together more than 200€... and now 've written it, i better don't think about it more and forget it;-)

I have to post some vids here, maybe some of you will also like this fantastic blues-doom-heavy-rock music they play.

This one is from their Conquest of Quarantine - Lockdown Session and i just love the sound of the recording they did and all the other songs from that session sound incredible.
The song is from their first record, they don't have many and they changed their style a bit in the later albums.

The Sword - Winter's Wolves
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wytv8nz3qc8&list=RDWytv8nz3qc8&start_radio=1

A more bluesy one from a later album:
The Sword - The Hidden Masters
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClqnCjulQ3g&list=RDClqnCjulQ3g&start_radio=1

17 years old video:
The Sword - How Heavy This Axe
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9KbmRTgigQ

A live recording from i think October 2025
The Sword - Acheron / Unearthing the Orb - Live
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTc-SjRuWdI

And a song from the Album High Country where the style shift happened. I had a while to get used to it because i was expecting a more heavy sound from them but then i fell in unconditonal love with it, a brilliant album

I see the Levellers are going on tour next Autumn in the UK... and, yes, it's yet another anniversary tour with 'Levelling The Land' played in full...   ::)  Ah, what the heck, I'm going, just annoyed that I couldn't make  the 'Zeitgeist' anniversary tour last year...

Mind you, 35 years since that album came out?  I remember buying it on the day of release and listening to it with a couple of pals whilst drinking strong cider... happy times.

Somewhere, I've still got my 1991 vintage "On the Fiddle" t-shirt, and I found my tape of their early 12"s the other day. Both bought at their Sheffield gig in June '91, IIRC support was the Moonflowers - what a night!

that really sounds like a decibel heavy week :D
just discovered that the Melvins, a band i know and like very much, have a cooperation with Napalm Death, a band that i don't know that much, called:Tossing Coins Into The Fountain Of F**k
What's your opinion on that?
