Free To Air Broadcast?
« on: February 14, 2012, 07:04:40 PM »
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-New-Model-Army-DVD-LIVE-1985-/200703238730?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_DVDs_DVDs_GL&hash=item2ebad8624a

What does that actually mean?

I presume this is the one you can buy in the shop along with four other live shows and a multitude of promo videos all for £14.00...ummm only 25p more than the eBay item above...now which one would any sensible person choose?

That is obviously on the Box Set DVD.......... aswell as video.......... The free to air ? God knows, I assume the TV stuff like In Concert from 89, Rockpalast (also on the Anniversary DVD).......... Maybe The Tube stuff or Top Of The Pops? Message the bootlegger  find out maybe?

From memory, the Vid had more tracks on than listed on its box. Perhaps what he means.

Was this ever released on DVD?

Free to Air is just an industry term for 'ordinary broadcasting' as opposed to subscription services like Sky, so essentially he means he recorded them from the TV, although, as above, he probably didn't!  What's he's probably trying to do is try to fool Ebay into not cancelling his listing for selling copyrighted material!

It's easy to transfer videos to DVD using a DVD recorder which is what I have done with all my old vids recently.  It's also possible to transfer them using a PC as long as you have the right software.  The guy that is selling these DVD's is the same guy that is/was selling the live Cd's as well.  Basically this guy is a good old fashioned bootlegger who is making money out of the band illegally as the videos are copyrighted.  Even the live Cd's are dodgy as well.  It's a pity there's not a private tracker for NMA live recordings that is exclusive to just the fans.  I know of other bands where fans have set up these sites so they can share recordings freely where recordings are uploaded for the fans to download.

Yeah, might be free to air, but certainly ain't free to eBay - we should set up a fans collective to make that the case. I want my NMA spend to go back to the band as I want to be able to go and see them live for years to come. And hold JS to those 40th gigs in only eight years time! Quite honestly the official live stuff that's come out recently of the 30th gigs in London, F$ck Texas and the stuff from the boxed set is probably a load better than a lot of this - so why bother is my view.

I totally agree with your view regarding the band receiving any money from officially released live material.  Regarding recordings made at concerts it is mainly done by the fans for the fans, well it is my case and that is what I'm all for.  Obviously the quality isn't as good as an official recording but with the equipment out there you can get a pretty descent recording and a live recording of the gig you have just been to has got to be one of the best momentos you can have.  A fans collective would be great to share any recordings out but you'd need someone with the know how to set one up.  It's easy enough to send a concert to an individual but multiples are a bit different
