unknown EIGHT pressing ?!
« on: April 21, 2012, 07:42:19 AM »
hi to all fellow collectors,

I've bought a very strange EIGHT CD on ebay. Here is the picture:
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251021702386

the artwork on CD is really unique, and unknown to me.
on the matrix of CD there is only "BL NMA-EIGHT 204"
The copyright text around the CD is in English and German.
the artwork on CD was printed over another one, it was Pat Metheny Trio 99-00 (released also in 2000)
It is a really factory pressed CD, not a CD-R !

about the sleeve, there is Zomba logo on back. The innersleeve is empty inside, looks like a good quality photocopy.

one last thing, the seller was from Bulgaria (could explains the BL on the matrix ?)

so, anyone has an idea about this CD ? I thought it was a bootleg, but as it's factory pressed and the only one I've seen in 10 years, I'm not sure. A mispressed CD that should have been destroyed ? A test pressing for an official release ?
To my knowledge there is no official Bulgarian pressing of this CD.

thanks for your answers.

hi patrice,
your lucky man.
i did also a bid and than i forgot the auction, damn  :-\ ;D

i think it´s a bulgarian pirate pressing. the seller has some more cd which says "bulgaria press"
that´s not an official pressing.
i have also one of Metallica. mostly different layouts as the original ones.

it´s a factory pirate release

cheers
thomas

i saw that or one like about 2 weeks ago? Forgot to bid myself.... An oversight on my part and saved you money it seems!  ;D i thought it must've been a promo p[ressing, I've got 5 or 6 different cd promo's of NMA releases. The strange Brotherhood cd's have a one sided artwork only cover, so I figured this must've been the same type of thing. But the Bulgaria pirate market is pretty huge. S an NMA bootleg wouldn't be unheard of that's for sure.
There's a ton of Polish and Czech' cassettes knocking about.

There was a Polish Ghost Of Cain and Impurity on Ebay not long ago on cassette........
I still need to track down the cassingle of No Rest I think it is. Saw one for a fiver a while back, but forgot to bid. =( Dozy bugger is me. I've got the Green n Grey, Purity, Get Me Out and Space cassingles already.  I think there's only No rest that appeared like that otherwise.

Regarding the Eight cd, it is definatley a pirate copy and a good one at that.
I purchased mine in Bosnia in 2000 when I did a four month tour out in Banja Luka. Outside of the camp were about ten little makeshift shops which were nicknamed CD-Alley, You could buy any cd that you ever wanted for 1DM (Deutsche Mark). The shops were all run by Bosnian Mafia type guys who did a roaring trade with the British, American, Dutch and Czech military and they made sure that their shops were stocked with up to minute cds.
The nearest City/town to us was Banja Luka which was where their cd illegal factory was, hence the " BL NMA EIGHT 204" came from!

Hope this helps

Paul you are correct in your thoughts, it wasn't primarily called CD Alley for the purchase of CD's, and it wasn't the last shop in the row it was the first.....lol!

to be fair I always thought it was urban squaddie myth but their CDs were pretty good quality and helped to boost my collection - was also good for trying new music as like you say they were cheap as chips!

thanks for your help gazraf !! it clears the mystery of this CD.

@irontour: about Polish tapes, I've heard some are not official, I don't remember if it's the Poker release or this other label. I've stopped buying polish tapes because of that !
