advice on Dusseldorf and surrounding area
« on: June 04, 2012, 08:32:36 AM »
good morning everyone,
my good lady and i are heading out to a wedding in Germany in september. it is our first time in the country. we are flying into Dusseldorf, hiring a car and heading to the wedding in Coesfeld. we will have all friday to explore (the wedding's on saturday) and as our flight home doesn't leave till 21.00 on sunday we will have a few hour free in Dusseldorf sunday afternoon.

so, do any family members have any advice on fun things to do in the area? we are interested in prehistoric/historical sites museums etc.

we also like open country so will probably go for a good, long drive on the friday.

thanks
phil

hi,

i live in dusseldorf...so i should have some good ideas...(pondering)
the neanderthal museum is a really good idea, maybe the kaiserpfalz in düsseldorf-kaiserswerth could also be interesting for you. if you want to drink a beer in the evening, i suggest the schaukelstühlchen or the engelchen. both pubs are in the altstadt.
so much for now. if i have some more good ideas, i 'm going to tell you these asap  ;)

greetings,
anke
