Hi Knievel: yep, the name comes from Golden Earring..a much underrated band I have always thought.
I've been into Rush since hearing them on the Friday Rock show in the late 70's.
Their early material from the 70's is my favourite stuff. I loved the way they really pushed themselves as musicians.. They certainly lost their way with Hold Your Fire and the albums that followed until Vapour Trails though.Still, like NMA, I,m just glad that they are still around  :)

Saw Gabby Young and Other Animals live in Edinburgh last Monday. Hadn't heard of them before, a friend dragged me along (tix were eight quid so why not?) and they were BRILLIANT.

Gabby Young has an amazing voice, and the band are crazy awesome - the lineup was acoustic guitar/BVs, violin/BVs, drums/keys/electronics, and TUBA. Yep. Tuba. It was a funky, manic gypsyish folk-rock sound which gave way to some mellow, beautiful tunes. Highly recommend!

OH. I've been to quite a lot of gigs lately, with a good mate visiting from Australia...

I just don't know how I could fail to post about this one, though.

We saw Peter Gabriel at the O2 a few weeks back, performing all of "So" (and other things) with most of the original lineup.

Well, that was a gig for the ages. Absolutely blooming brilliant. Goosebumps upon goosebumps. Peter Gabriel is an utter legend and he hasn't lost a damn thing. Still has bucketloads of charisma and I don't think his voice has aged a day since he recorded that album.

Last gig was last saturday, a dutch band called Orgel Vreten (organ eating) 2 guys on Hammond m3, drums, violin/sax/clarinet and a bass/guitar player. They provided live music to the Russian silent movie Aelita (1924), Now that was ******* awesome! They did record it, now just hoping they're gonna bring it out, 111 mins of pure organ awsomeness.

Whoa, Agrotoxico! I saw them at Puntalarock last August. Amazing, pure and fast Brazilian stuff with lyrics and tension that there's no other such band. Reminds a lot about crusty thrash HC with surprisingly (even) melodical solos at times. Great band they are.

Gabriel's So and Passion are records I like very much. Gabriel has done also music with Bill Laswell which is another great multitalented musician. Have you heard a project album called The Big Ball? There Peter Gabriel formed a big group of different musicians. The result was some of maybe most emotonally powerful and beautiful songs I've ever heard.

I haven't heard The Big Ball - but I'll definitely look out for it, now!

Now when I tried to find some info about it, I see it's actually Big Blue Ball. Here's a wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Blue_Ball.

Here's a youtube link to track 6, Everthing Comes from You

I'm off to see The Stereophonics with the girlfriend on Thursday night.... she's already noticed that I'm not as excited about that gig as I should be as I am really excited about Saturday when I go to see NAM.
