Not been out for sooooo long - money money money and the lack of the stuff...so I had a business meeting to deal with and how better to deal with a business meeting than at a space rock gig.  I got a lift to Wigan and met up with some colleagues at Nik Turners gig and good grief what a great night...Wish i'd taken better mental notes - first band were very old men in blue jeans, not a good look huh?  but they played like oh imagine the best of a Blue Oyster Cult guitar wig out living on squatters rights with Pink Fairies for a barrister....on and on and on with this liquid guitar and punk vocals.  Great stuff.
Next up was a dub ska outfit One Eyed God with a guest spot of Nik making a double sax mash.  I was very dancing.  And then Nik - he's a swine he really is...the gig was advertised as Nik Turner performs Space Ritual which kinda sounds like Nik Turner's gonna be playing the Space Ritual LP, which, fine I love that record but I do prefer Inner City Unit and I'd rather have a night of Solitary Ashtray and Little Black Egg - I really miss Judge Trev but I digress back to the gig...oh ps here before I get back to the gig - went out for a ciggie after the first band and Nik was at the door greeting folk in - I want to be lovely when I'm an old man too...heheheh...Ok so it was good to hear the gig blast off with Watching the Grass Grow and not with whatever the first track on Space Ritual is and so I think we're gonna get a good thirty minutes of Nik Turner Classics before the Bob stuff.  band are great, vocals are dull but that's the way he's singing now, it wasn't a sound issue - the flute and the sax came through the same mic real nice but Nik's just singing in a very warm slippers manner these days - that's how it is and you get used to it...the band were very good - some great Hammond from Thomas Crimble - bit frustrating - a lot of the stuff was improv and he lacked the confidence to hit the ******* keys when the space was begging him to hit them and to his credit when he did hit he was bang on target so i guess he knows what he's doing and when to hold back - still I wish he was firing more than he seems to want to.  Me I took out the air guitar and had a real blast - been such a long time - I loved it just danced like a loon - loads of space and some real nice people down the front.  I banged into one guy and he's like an iron bar...I asked him is he tai chi?  You don't get that kind of internal strength from eating chips and he said he's yoga....I didn't know you can build that kind of strength from yoga but sure it's obvious really isn't it - Anyway got the business dealt with in a few minutes before leaving the gig (Liverpool Record fair if I can plug that here - Blue Coat Chambers, Saturday 30 May 10am to 6pm - Free admission....It will be a very great fair - I'll be there with heaps of goodies and a few other folk will be there too) and an empty motorway in a fast car with some more Dub reggae in that perfectly speechless cocoon of motion...so long since I've been out, thanks for letting me share that folks...Oh and the final PS; that bloody Nik Turner - don't believe a word he says - he didn't play the Space Ritual LP..,he played heaps of Nik Turner stuff and said things like 'this is off our new LP 'Space Ritual''...I mean I loved it very much but no 7&7 no Orgone  no Lord of Light (they might actually have played any of these I've no idea I was twatted - or penised for the feminists out there)...Yeah, Nik, he really does play that cosmic joker role...ok ok ok and last thing that I want to say while I'm here is why is Lemmy's bass so wet on that record?  What happened there?

I saw an irish person cicking too spoons together with mainstream pop music in the background in Kilkenny.
That's about as close to a gig as I have been. It seems most gigs  in Ireland are in Dublin.

Get yerself over to Galway as quick as you can - the best buskers in the world and many bars with great spontaneous stuff - or at least that's how it was 20 years ago...

And another PS here Amandi...real good to hear you made it over there - I remember reading your threat to pack it all up and split a few months ago and I didn't think you'd do it - so good to hear you've got wheels turning...let us all know if you ever need anything...go well Amanda x

Blimey!  Sepultura (one of my fave metal bands of all time) are playing a tiny club not twenty miles away from my home town!  And the train station is one minute away from the venue with a late train home!

Here's one from 2003, a fave from the Cavalera years but with their great 'new' singer on it...

I may go to a gig if seeing street musicians who ask for money counts.

Some gigs I want to go (but can`t)
http://wovenhandband.com/shows

Wovenhand "Hellfest" - and a lot of more bands are very interesting - more than Wacken (both sold out)  :'(
Wovenhand in London or Oslo .....
And me, I`ve got a black place in my heart
Still got this hole in me
Perhaps - I am the master of nothing?

Oh, flippin' bloody CRIKEY, the Sisters doing a rare tour...  :D

Saw 'em last time they played the Roundhouse, just awesome, wish I could afford a London trip, but it'll probably have to do Manchester...

On it like a tramp on chips!  Thanks for the heads-up, Sheena!

Back from Downlad, which was very, very wet.

Highlights:
Friday (aka comedy night)
Slip knot renaming the festival 'Downpour'.  I do like humour from a man in a horror mask :)
Rob Halford's 3 costume changes in a 1 hour set.

Saturday (aka church night)
Faith No More's almost completely white set; white backdrop, white kit, white stage clothes, white-clad roadies; plus a large florist's-worth of gladioli.  I wasn't sure if Mike Patton was about to conduct a funeral or start healing the sick.  Bonkers.
Marilyn Manson's set like a Catholic Church gone completely mad.  Choral singing intro music, stained glass windows featuring Mazza, Mazza 'preaching' from a pulpit... And the microphone changes... I particularly liked the one with a large butcher's knife sticking out the end; along with plenty of theatrical blood running down his knuckles.

Sunday (Aka ****-rock night)
Slash playing 'Sweet Child O Mine' in the pouring rain.
Mötley Crüe playing their farewell tour; not a day too soon.  (Semi-naked backing singers gyrating in faux leather in 2015... Really?)
And finally, the Award for the Shiniest, Healthiest Hair goes to... KISS!!!

And the sun shone while we put up and took down the tent. And I only have a mild case of trench foot.  ;D
