Easy: Today Is A Good Day. 2nd spot Carnival, probably followed by 8.

Very difficult...

1) HIGH because of the catchy choruses, the immediacy, the lyrics..."High", "Into the wind", "Rivers", "Dawn", "Bloodsports", "One of the chosen", "No mirror no shadow"...i think the album is very close to the top of NMA's career, alongside the unmatchable "Thunder and consolation".

2) EIGHT...because after the uneven STRANGE BROTHERHOOD, this album full of experiments, EIGHT was a welcome return to NMA's vitality and "simple" storytelling, immediate catchy songs...because of "You weren't there", "Orange tree roads", "Someone Like Jesus", "Snelsmore wood" and "Leeds road 3AM"

3) BETWEEN DOG AND WOLF: really to early to rate this album fairly...it's not a perfect album but i rate it in the 3rd place because of the classic NMA stuff ( "March in September", "Seven times", "Between dog and wolf") and the more introspective, moving stuff ( "Pull the sun", "I need more time", "Did you make it safe?") and the cinematic oddity of "Qasr El Nil Bridge".

4) TODAY IS A GOOD DAY

and

5) CARNIVAL

Both quite good albums but a bit uneven.

Favourite has to be Lost Songs and Abandonded....... then......
Today Is A Good
High
Carnival
Eight

I'm not counting Dog n Wolf yet..... too soon to be objective enough....

I agree with Stoney's chart list..so to speak. Have listened to BDAW several times now and can't rate it yet. At this point it feels very "grown up" and well arranged/produced. Its very percussive (wink wink to Mr Dean!!!), and I really like that.
I still think it doesn't sound like a typical NMA album...but I suspect the band were kind of aiming for that?
Still...all good stuff!

It is way to early to rate BDaW but, as things stand:

1. BDaW
2. Eight
3. High
4. TiaGD
5. Carnival
.                                                                               I'm just a country mile behind the world...

Difficult to judge BDAW so early, but think it will always be in the top 3....
As of now:

1 BDAW
2 Eight
3 TIAGD
4 High
5 Carnival

1. High/TIAGD
3. Carnival
4. BDAW
5. Eight

I simply cant choose a definitive 1st place between High and TIAGD. Utterly magnificent, and it just depends on the day which one suits my mood more.

Carnival took me a looooong time to unlock- I actively disliked it on its release, but it has proven to be one of the most rewarding albums I own, and Red Earth is for me, one of the all time great NMA moments.

BDAW would have come 5th until this evenings drive to work when it suddenly started to reveal itself to me more, and I started hearing what it is, as opposed to being aware of what it isnt. I am pretty sure it will ever rise higher up this list as there is nothing on it that speaks to me as strongly as the albums above it, but it could suprise me in time.

Eight I really like, but of all NMA albums, its the only one I cant put on repeat. When I have the urge to listen to it, once is enough, whilst the others in this list, I will leave looping in the car for days on end when the need arises.
I meant what I said at the time that I said it.

heheh - thanks Ray - you nailed it!

I do want to say here though that I think Dog is their best record yet.

Really struggled with this, cos each has one or more of my favourite tracks on it.

That said, keeping to one album as a single work, I'd say:

1) BDAW
2) High
3) Eight
4) Carnival
5) TIAGD

Fave songs?

Into The Wind
Red Earth
Leeds Road 3am
Wipeout
North Star
bah.  humbug.
