NOTTINGHAM BEFORE-GIG GATHERING

Tap "n" Tumbler on Talbot street like last year ?

We are quite spoilt for "alternative" pubs in Nottingham, but the Tap has always been a pre-Rock City pub, even for a basic Saturday night at Rockers. Mainly due to its proximity to Rock City, just a  minutes walk away., and plenty big enough.

Otherwise, there is also The Old Angel, and The Salutation, both alternative pubs, to name a couple more, and also venues with there large upstairs, but both quite a trek to Rockers.

For anyone wanting to have a bit of a wonder, again can I please recommend, Forman's Punk Rock Bar. Its 3-4 mins walk from the Tap, on a pedestrianized street off the Corner House cinema complex. Well worth a visit for a quick pint. The staff when they see NMA tops will stick an appropriate song on. It is in an area of eateries, but more to the point if your peckish  before the gig, it is next door to a decent traditional English fish and chip shop.

Here is a nice review on Louder Than War --  http://louderthanwar.com/how-to-survive-as-a-small-venue-foremans-punk-bar-in-nottingham-shows-the-way/

If anyone wants to go, I will be glad to meet up, then onto the Tap.

If you like historic pubs, there is the Old Trip to Jerusalem about 10 mins walk from Rockers. Nearby, the Salutation which is Nottingham's rock pub.
The Salutation historic for its part in the English Civil War. After King Charles raised his standard at Nottingham Castle which started the war, the Salutation was instantly set up as Loyalist recruitment station. After three weeks it had only recruited around 300 volunteers, so the King left for Shrewsbury where support was stronger.

Hey, Shush!  Only been to Foremans once, but loved it, although I can't recommend the toilets...  :-\

I'm working on getting to Nottingham next month, but it isn't looking likely, thanks to the whole unemployed / running out of cash thing... damn shame, but things are in the pipeline, never give up hope, eh?

Nottingham is truly a fine city for drinking, not to mention Rock City, the best live venue in the country, bar none...

Going off topic for a minute, there used to be a decent rock pub on Goldsmith St, just around the corner from RC, but last time I was in there, it had turned into another generic crap-pub... what was it called?

Rah! Rah! Rah! We're going to smash the oiks!

The gents is very grim, I would never want to call in for No2,s, there's no seat, and no lock on the door, but it all adds to the charm of the place :) The ladies is more fit  for purpose and clean (so I have been told).

Didn't know you were still out of work, sorry to hear that mate. If you do manage to come over, I'll stand you a pint or two.

The pub you remember was called Fagins, the good bit being upstairs. Not been there for 20 odd years. Not sure what its like now, but it aint Fagins anymore. Its next door to what is now Spanky van Dykes on the corner.

Spanky Van Dykes and The Horn In Hand...

Not, for a single second, wishing to come over as anything approaching homophobic but, lets face it, two of the gayest pub names in history...

 ;D

Is it still likely to be Tap n Tumbler? :)

Mind if doors are 630pm and JS/DW on by 715pm I hope people aren't too tardy!  ;D

Mind, I get in from Stockton-upon-Tees at about 330pm and need to go meet me hosts outta town first.. so may be a moot point! See y'all Sat!
