It's just bloody inconsiderate, selfish and immensely annoying. I also wonder why those who are talking are not interested in what's happening on stage...

I did see a post somewhere in another thread which seemed to suggest that singing along to songs was out of order too. Didn't understand that
That may have been me, and was only a reference to people who are not, shall we say, the most tuneful. Like myself. I am very acutely aware of the fact that I can't sing a bloody note, so despite the fact that my heart is bursting with the desire to sing along, I refuse to inflict that on the people around me. If you'd ever heard my attempts at singing, you would appreciate the sacrifice I'm making here  :)

The only problem I have with talkers like many have said already is during the acoustic/quieter songs.  First and foremost it's totally disrespectful to everyone who has payed good money to listen to live music.  Surely what you've got to say is not that important that you have to broadcast it to all around you right that second.  You've only got to wait a matter of minutes and the song will end or at least cup your hand around the appropriate lug hole and talk into it, instead of shouting it.
Maybe more venues like Robin 2, Bilston should have signs around asking for people not to talk during the music or vacate to the bar area.  Venues could definitely do more.

I recently went to see a band play a live soundtrack to a film and two women repeatedly chatted all the way through, would you do that a cinema?  I don't think so, in fact you'd probably get asked to leave.
I observed a couple of blokes at a gig who chatted all the through and did not look towards the stage at any point. So they paid £15 for a ticket to buy over priced watered down beer to have a chat, doesn't sound like a good night to me!

unfortunatley the world seems to be getting full of people who don't even have the common sense / intelligence of what comes out of the rear end of my dog! (but don't get me started on that)
i would take this further, it also seems that lots of people who go to all sorts events seem to spend their whole time there filming / photographing it for enjoyment later rather than enjoying the moment they are having then and there. I know modern technology allows for this, but i still don't get it.

Totally agree mate - I have no problem with folks filming (as long as they don't hold the camera in the air directly in front of me so I see that and a wobbly hand rather than the band) but I cannot for the life of me understand why they sacrifice the present moment for the future.

Back on the subject of talking, one of the best gig experiences I had was Mercury Rev at the Leadmill. Total silence and respect through the whole gig. Granted, the music was atmospheric and didn't lend itself to dancing etc but it was one of the very few gigs I've been to at which I could just concentrate 100% on the music - absolute bliss. No-one throwing beer across the crowd, no streams of people pushing past, no irritating chatting. Probably anathema to a lot of people but perfect for me. Don't get me wrong, I've been in the pit for NMA gigs for 23 years and love it. I've sang along to the full band songs with the best of 'em but when it comes to the ballads, people should shut up and listen. If they don't know/like the songs as they impatiently wait for Vengeance, fine. But please be quiet because most of us do love the ballads as much as the other stuff.

Your not wrong with regards to the camera phones.  Savages have signs up at their gigs which read;

"A NOTE FROM SAVAGES

OUR GOAL IS TO DISCOVER BETTER WAYS OF LIVING AND EXPERIENCING MUSIC

WE BELIEVE THAT THE USE OF PHONES TO FILM AND TAKE PICTURES DURING A GIG PREVENTS ALL OF US FROM TOTALLY IMMERSING OURSELVES

LET'S MAKE THIS EVENING SPECIAL

SILENCE YOUR PHONES"

and I read the other day that Yeah Yeah Yeahs had signs up at their New York show which said 'put that shit away' a little more to the point.

Ha ha, I see what you're saying ! But I doubt that even your out of tune voice would drown out the PA during the louder songs. I suppose it depends on where you're standing in the venue and the noise levels. I mean, I'm definitely not the greatest singer either, but do try to stay roughly in tune. When I can't hit a note that Justin is singing I drop down to something lower but hopefully reasonably harmonious ! I'm sure I'm not always successful, but the way I see it, I can barely hear what's coming out of my gob over the music, so hopefully the people next to me can't really either. And if they're singing along too, then it doesn't really matter. I'd much rather hear someone attempting to sing along to something they really love, with passion, even if they are hopelessly out of tune (especially during the loud ones when it doesn't matter) than having to listen to people talking about totally unrelated stuff during quiet songs, which is totally distracting, or even calling out for other songs when the quiet one is being sung ! I'd say if your heart is bursting with desire to sing along, cos you love those songs so much, then go for it ! Or maybe I just haven't heard you yet ;)

I don't have much of a problem with people recording stuff on their phones, but if you're concentrating on getting the moment on that little screen, all shaky and tinny-sounding, you're not actually living the moment...

Kill them.  Kill them both.  You have a whole room full of people who were 'at the bar' in that exact moment...
