Time Out

First off, this most definitely applies to me:

However, maybe it's the neutral parent in me coming out so sent with love and a hefty dose of "tongue in cheek".....

While walking the dog tonight I conjured up this little domestic viginette:

Scene - Living room of any family home. Frustrated parent (Anna) with thunderous face stands in doorway, Child A (lets call him Adam) is in one corner, Child B (lets call her Eve) stands in the other. A seemingly intractable quarrel between the two has been getting louder and louder until Anna (who is not connected to the quarrel in any way) feels compelled to step in and call time out.

Anna: ENOUGH. The pair of you just shut it. NOW.

Eve & Adam In Unison : But..

Anna: Don't care. Be quiet.

Anna (To Adam): Yes you feel upset/offended however I very much doubt that was Eve's intention to begin with. And it seems that you have upset/offended Eve as well whether intentionally or not.

Adam: But...

Anna: Not interested.

Anna (To Eve):  Yes you've feel upset/offended however I very much doubt that was Adam's intention to begin with. And it seems that you have upset/offended Adam as well whether intentionally or not.

Eve: But...

Anna: Not interested.

Anna (To Both): I don't care how or who started it, I don't care who said more than the other, I don't care who told who about it. It is what it is so Time Out. Don't wanna hear anymore. Sooner or later you two will sort this out yourselves. Till then - End Of. Now **** off the pair of you and tough luck - you got me all uptight and I'll have to listen to some very loud music for a bit and I hope it gets on your nerves. Love ya' both.

This is a New Model Army Forum so I will leave the last word to them.

Interesting scenario. Would it play out any differently if it involved frustrated parent A witnessing a quarrel between parent B and child C?

@n : probably similar, bit louder and a bigger headache after would be my best guess.  ;D

Point!

Two penneth... I find kids often have a much more pragmatic approach to problem solution, and certainly one to get over it quicker and move on.

And maybe not unconnected, if I witness another parent's quarrel with their child, I mostly sympathize with the child.
