Any of you lot into a band called The War On Drugs?  Just started listening to them and I quite like what they're doing.  Q magazine voted their album 'Lost In The Dream' as the best album of 2014...

Here's a video from them...

 :)

Caught them last year, cant say I was super impressed. The sound was appaling, so bad that Adam (I think, lead singer, guitarist) suggested venue sound guy get a new job. Album got rave reviews, its OK in my book.

They hardly qualify as new but if you like psychedelic music I'd urge you to check out the Japanese band Ghost (same goes for the Boredoms but that's REALLY old). And if you want to hear demonically possessed music from America's deepest woods and bayous, then I recommend the band me and Lotus mentioned on another thread - Wovenhand. That is if you don't mind music you can both enjoy and get the creeps from. Again, not new (I'm sorry, Radiohead were probably the 'newest' band I listened to) but if you like straight up Stones-style rock n  roll with a lot of integrity and heart, you might like the Drive By Truckers.

Second The Drive By Truckers, similair in ways to NMA imo - not a bad album in 10 plus, a hard touring band, nucleus of the band stays the same, extremely loyal following, seen em 7/8 times & consistently one of the best live bands out there. Gotta love a band that doesn't do setlists.

I've only seen the Truckers once so far but they are definitely kindred spirits, as are the fans. At the end of the show Patterson Hood said "Thank you all for helping us feed our families" which I thought showed a heartfelt appreciation. It may read as corny here but it wasn't.  I was lucky enough to meet them before the show too and they were Southern gentlemen to the hilt. Love those guys. And you're right. Another 10 good albums and they'll be the only band I know that can compete with New Model Army in consistency. Which makes me wonder- is Justin Sullivan aware he's been in a band that's been around for about 30 years and hasn't made a single weak album ? I think that's unique in the history of rock music.

If Acid Mother's Temple fit the new category I like them a lot. The first time I heard them it was just a barrage of feedback and various other noises. Then somehow my perception of the world around me mysteriously altered and I tried them again and it all made perfect sense. These guys had somehow captured the majesty of the cosmos with sound. For all its surface squalling it actually had a structure and meaning I hadn't grasped at all the first time. Then, after yet another jarring perception shift I returned to what the Swans call "the cold light of boring reality" and tried AMT again. This time my opinion was a little more measured but I was still impressed at how wild and massive their sound is. In my experience, any band from Japan is worth listening to. Same used to go for New Zealand for some reason. They had an epidemic of great bands way, way back in the 90s.

Bang on mate, Patterson is an absolute gent, very grateful for the life he leads & doing something he truly loves doing, he's a kind soul, met him briefly once also. His dad David Hood from Muscle Shoals Rythm Section is in current incarnation of The Waterboys, strange but true.

A friend saw Acid Mother's Temple in NY and I liked his review, "They were good. They were loud.". Can't add a thing to that.

The Royal Blood sounds great. Want's to hear it more...
I reallyl love them - I often listen to the British Forces Station here in Germany and they sometimes play their songs - for the first time in forever I found myself immediately hooked and wanting the CD. I was so thrilled when they added a gig in Cologne this summer - what a show!!!!

Friends of mine suggested I check out a band called "Death From Above 1979" - also just 2 guys with a bass and drums. They are a Canadian band and not exactly new but my friends said they liked them even better than Royal Blood.

I did get their CD "You're aWoman, I'm a Machine", as recommended, but have to say that I haven't been able to really get into them.

If you'd like to check them out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bOg3aSRexo
