C.J, Sansom's " Tombland" - the last of his Shardlake series, set in mid-16th century England with the economy in freefall and the common people starving and angry thanks to the incompetence and greed of the ruling classes... sounds familiar?

''Christ Stopped At Eboli'' by Carlo Levi ,tells the story of his exile in a remote and barren corner of Italy for his opposition to Mussolini and Fascism....a fascinating read.

Been re-reading a lot of Bill Bryson's books lately.  Currently on 'The Road To Little Dribbling', excellent.

I have read uncharacteristically little for the past year or so. Mainly thrillers that are entertaining enough to keep my hyperactive brain in check - I don't like the way my attention span has shortened and my mind's become so restless.
Anyway, I'm back with Clive Barker, currently enjoying the Books of Blood volumes 1-3 omnibus edition: short stories are probably just what's needed at the moment. And these are magnificent! Absolutely fantastic pieces of horror fiction, and even that one story that I found hard to concentrate to and couldn't get much into was in the end the one that made me cry. There was also one story that I found hilarious and was like a breath of fresh air amidst all horror: a story called The Yattering and Jack, which was about a lower demon that was sent to earth to stalk a guy so boring that the poor demon was about to lose its mind - and of course, the ending wasn't much of a success. :) So I ordered four more books from Barker (as I love getting obsessed about things).
There's one book I'm really looking forward to read and I'm getting it tomorrow as my friend's parents from Finland are visiting... My friend told that Pajtim Statovci has a new book out and her parents are gonna bring it to her, so I placed my order too :) I don't even know the name of the book or what's it about, but there are two books from this author that were phenomenally good: My Cat Yugoslavia and Bolla, which won the Finlandia price of literature for a very good reason.
I should stay entertained for a while...

Miki Berenyi - Fingers Crossed, the autobiography from the former Lush singer (a band I really love),  a great story of both being a musician in the late 80's / 90's and some truly disturbing stuff from her past.
