We banned it in 1999, so any building built before 2000 must be seen as a risk. Its everywhere; fire doors, cements, bitumen, brake linings, artex, coatings insulation and so on!!!!

I can`t follow some postings or reply, because my english isn`t perfect (perhaps I understand some posting  wrong or I don`t know how to express my thoughts without mistakes) :(
And me, I`ve got a black place in my heart
Still got this hole in me
Perhaps - I am the master of nothing?

I wouldn't worry about it my friend. I managed to achieve the lowest grade possible in my English language/literature exams at school, you would of thought living in England would have done better!!!!

On a more serious note This

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/benefit-cuts-deaths-time-iain-6177882?utm_source=change_org&utm_medium=petition

I would encourage others to join change.org

Well those cases are of course bloody awful and wrong. In some cases it was a belief not an actual that caused those poor people to commit suicide. Appalling, really vulnerable people need protection.

However can I be a bit controversial. Can we not look at trying to reduce benefits to rebalance the public purse a bit without resorting to hyperbole and extremes?

There is something telling on that page many might miss. Go down to the bottom and click the poll about whether the public think benefits need reforming. And even on a definitely left of centre paper like the Mirror, nearly 70% have said yes, which coincides with polling results of the last few years with stands at about 73% of the public thinks it needs some reform.

Whilst there is some undeserving cases claiming benefits. I believe that most of cases are genuine.

One question idopas how much do you think a single person over 25 gets each week on job seekers allowance without looking it up.
One death is one too many

And I agree with your first sentence. Don't forget the welfare system is to help those vulnerable and through hard times to get back on their feet. I am a capitalist sure, but I would never contemplate ever not having that welfare help for others as Kirsty MacColl sang;

"From an uptown apartment to a knife on the a train
It's not that far
From the sharks in the penthouse to the rats in the basement
It's not that far
To the bag lady frozen asleep on the church steps
It's not that far"

One minute you are king of the world next you can be penniless. Been there. Luckily I always aim to pick back up and am doing good at the mo.

As to your second question I'm not going to lie, I would have to look it up. In my day it was unemployment benefit a couple of decades ago and if they found you a job and you didn't take it, it was removed. Been on it.

But as someone who has started to employ apprentices now as well as employees (and pays way above the government allowance), forgive me if I say I am doing something, can everyone else say that hand on heart?  :)

Why ask this question anyway, is it an inference that somehow I have no clue how others live? I have been there. Is it to infer how lucky I am, because I've worked damned hard to get my company up and running with little money and only my business partner to give help?  :)

Of course one death is too many. Whatever we do in life bad or good you cannot prejudge everyone's reactions to it I'm afraid. So the burning question is; do we ignore difficult topics because one or two people might react in extreme ways?

The problem with benefits is a few people rip the piss out and everyone else gets tarred with the same brush and the tories and the daily mail are only happy to do it . They have even started stigmatizing people who work hard but get tax credits.
I certainly think its wrong for them to use the courts to prevent figures being released about deaths from benefit cuts. I thought we were a democratic forward thinking open national.

I asked the question because I was curious to know your answer. The answer was approximately £70 a week and out of that you may well have to pay part of your housing and part of your council tax leaving you approximately £50 , and of course if your claiming jsa you have to buy newspapers, stamps, make phone calls etc to look for work.So that doesn't exactly leave much does to make cuts from.

Yes I work hard too and pay my taxes and I do grudge it admittedly. I was long term unemployed after leaving school till I was in my 20s but you what I went to college with government help ( I got my benefits and travel expenses plus £10 a week ) and have worked more or less constantly since. Why not do a similar thing now instead of making people clean the streets etc for 6 months then they go back to square one.

Agreed, Pol... I was unemployed after redundancy thanks to the Tory killing of the NHS...  but that's a story I've told before.  And it's fuckin' awful out there.  I like my new job but it's only covering maternity leave so come November I'll probably be back out there, where the jobs are paying much less than they did in the 90's (that's in ACTUAL pay, not 'adjusted' pay) and I'm dreading being tainted with the same brush as these boasting fools that the Daily Mail love so much...

Completely agree with most of this post, we aren't that far apart except on a few points.

You make a good point about some cheating the benefits and everyone being tarred by it.

Let me turn it around a mo. In the same way as a few companies don't pay their whack in taxes and the banks were bailed out. A lot of the left persuasion immediately start generalising that ALL companies don't pay taxes and ALL companies if they get into trouble will get bailed out with taxpayer money. Which is quite frankly bollocks. I can tell you we pay all our taxes, paye, vat etc and if my company gets into trouble the government will do nothing to help me, and quite right, its a private limited company.

The trouble with the right and the left is we generalise. Look here, both you and MR mention the Daily Mail as if anything that appears in those papers is wrong because you are not of that political persuasion.  :)

My own view is that we are crippled in this country at the moment by both the right and the left trying to push their one version of the truth on us, like a quasi religion. The truth and the way forward is usually a combo of both political wings, but of course when a government does this if it is a Tory one it is automatically "wet and liberal" and if a Labour on it is "red tory". And so we stamp our feet while other countries just get on with it.

Wow I've written far too much here. Ok to end, I agree that jobseekers allowance is low, but in the end it is meant to be temporary, and yes much more needs doing in training and apprenticeships. Nothing is perfect, in a decade I could be penniless or well off or dead, who the hell knows all we can do is be as positive as we can, realise we can do things to improve ourselves (everyone has something, that is what makes us unique), and realise we ain't got long until we are stardust again.  :)

Hi MR. Question; do you only look to work in the NHS or NHS type activities. What are you qualified for?  :)

Oh boy, long story, Idopas.

First off, I'll admit the thing I did completely wrong in my 25+ years as a working man... I never 'specialised' or chased one thing that would pay off in the long run.  I just went for whatever paid the best at any given time whilst pursuing various artistic 'passions', none of which came to much.  So I've run video stores, worked in a warehouse, been a regional trouble-shooter for a chain of record stores, put together timber frames for a housing company, been a team leader at a telecommunication company, done quality control at a car factory (none of that stuff in any chronological order) and then worked for NHS Direct and been groomed for better things thanks to the degree they were putting me through... then the Government closed down NHSD and I lost everything, including the funding of that degree I was half way through.  I have an absolute glut of work experience but when I found myself unemployed for the first time in a decade... didn't mean shit.  Especially within the NHS, who are laying folks off left right and centre...

And I've met people with far more experience than me who are fighting it out for £7 an hour jobs!

Glad you're doing well, mate, honestly, but it's shit out there right now.
