Instrumental tracks...
« on: August 01, 2014, 10:51:31 PM »
So... I love instrumental music.  Songs are great and all, but they tell you what the tune is all about... whereas an instrumental tune lets you figure it out for yourself and let you put your own experiences and thoughts onto what you're listening to...

... so, with that in mind, what instrumental tunes do you like?   :(

Here's a few of my faves...

Gary Moore, 'The Loner'....  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paRWL_zQPdY

Metallica, 'Orion'...  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8qrwON1-zE

Simple Minds, 'Themes For Great Cities'...  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJDx-1L3V9U

David Bowie - 'Speed Of Life'...  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hkyp6HCqrs4

and, I bloody love this cheesy, gorgeous tune, The Tornados, 'Telstar'... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBYdp84AwuU

What instrumental tunes do you love...?   :(

Love it. One of my favourite SM tracks

The Sisters of Mercy's 'Untitled' is another one I really love: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sINOUDbg9HY
I know it's mostly a Dominion reprise but it takes on a life all of it's own, I find.

And on a similar note, David Gilmour's 'Red Sky at night': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bj6W8Xpb5o

'Seaworld', a nice summery tune by NZ's Phoenix Foundation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrFy07npswM

Johnz, if you like that SM track, you might want to check out the new Manic Street Preachers album, 'Futurology'... VERY influenced by that era of SM.  Even if you're not a fan of the band they've always said that the likes of TFGC was a favourite.

Here's a link to a 23 minute sampler... you should deffo check this album out, it's my favourite of the year so far for me...

Oh that sounds really interesting. Thanks for that. I kinda lost track of the Manics a little while ago. I'll have a listen to the sampler when I get back to my own computer. I do remember them citing early SM as an influence in an interview ages ago which surprised me because I really don't hear it.

Here's a couple more instrumental tunes that I love...  both mellow as hell and quite beautiful...

Brian Eno - 'An Ending'...

Not usually a huge fan of instrumentals tbh. I think the singers just being lazy. However

Dick Dale and the Deltones- Misirilou. Choon. Check the entry on wikipedia about it. Fascinating.
Hala (from the Anglo-Saxon word "halh", meaning nook or remote valley), until it was gifted by King Henry II to Welsh Prince David Owen and became known as Halas Owen

Pol, I ALWAYS have time for the Pogues...

I think I've previously said that my three favourite bands are NMA, The Smiths and the Manic Street Preachers... it's a toss-up between The Pogues and The Sisters Of Mercy as to who gets fourth place...

and can`t find it on yt
The days of pearly spencer - Henry Mancini instrumental
I like the version with lyrics by David McWilliams, but I remember an instrumental one often played in the past - if it wasn`t Mancini, who was it ??
