Everybody has a favourite road
« on: September 30, 2014, 12:36:18 PM »
Mine would have to be the coast road from Blenheim to Kaikoura here in NZ. Snow capped mountains to the right and the southern ocean to the left, with seals on the rocks and whales or dolphins out to sea if you're lucky. About as good as it gets for me.

So which one is yours?

At this time the Georgian military Highway, that's the road from Tblisi to Russia, stunning views especially when you can see mount Kazbegi coming out of the clouds.

One of the more spectacular (and fun to drive) roads I've been along is the road between Little Langdale and the Esk Valley in the Lake District. Have a look at some of this on Streetview !

And here's another I've got to mention. If ever you're travelling to the Isle of Skye on the A87, try leaving the A87 at Shiel Bridge, and head up the old military road over the Mam Ratagan Pass, and down to Glenelg. Maybe do a quick detour there to view a Pictish Broch or two. Then, onto the tiny little ferry (6 cars max) over the Kylerhea narrows to Kylerhea on Skye. Then on up another glorious, gradual climb through spectacular scenery. Once at the top you get a superb view of the Cuillin Mountains ahead. Then gradually down, and wind you way back to the A87 on the way in to Broadford.  Simply epic !!

Me too!  Too soon to start a 'who's coming to Nottingham' thread?  Personally, I'd leave it till mid-November, plans change and all of that...

Is Spanky's still a good boozer?  Ain't been in there in a good long while... I do remember my last visit to The Horn In Hand a couple of years back, so disappointed, used to be a damn good rock pub...
