Space, it would be a sad competition if NMA fans tried to show their affection for the band through how much they have spent. That said, I am sure the guitar cost a lot, but then again, it wouldn't come close to what many on this forum have spent following the band around the country, and indeed the World

That's not the proper way to look at this. It would be wrong to add up money spent following the band. I am talking here about one item; and no ticket, or album, or tee-shirt comes close to the price of that guitar.

I bought that guitar specifically because of New Model Army. That guitar is a Gibson SG. If you know anything about Gibson you'd know they are insanely overpriced. No way any other NMA purchase reaches the price of a Gibson SG.

I think mr shush wins the argument hands down. I mean wot memories and life enhancing experience's do you get from a guitar that looks like Justin's would much rather go and watch/listen to him play his. All that really matters is the love and passion you have for band and the people that surround it

Oh, Pol, I feel sorry for you. I really do. You don't understand the magic and wonder of music. It is not in seeing someone else play songs that is the joy of music; no, it is the creation of music that is the wonder of it all. Anyone can buy a ticket and see New Model Army play a set of songs in Leipzig. But how many can pick up a guitar and create their own music? That's where the real love of music lies. Creating it. Expressing yourself through the art of music. My guitar allows that. A five dollar ticket to a gig in Leipzig does not.

Seq, can we start planning your trip to see NMA in Europe already? You know you want to, you know it's worthwhile, you know you can.  :D

Except I spent all my money on that plate for my car. ;)   Maybe Space can fly me out since he could afford that guitar. Seriously though, it would require money I dont have. You Europeans, always flying around everywhere to this country and that, making it sound so easy. You know Americans dont go anywhere, nor do we ever get any real time off work. We speak of European work environments with their late morning starts, early evening stops, afternoon long lunches and naps, long vacatio....excuse me - HOLIDAYS . ;)

Ahhh Semm, (Im not writing out that name), this forum just isnt quit the same as used to be (no offense anyone), with all the daily passionate political/social discussions of current events along with NMA happenings it was so busy back then. Space reminds me of a young version of Henious that was here in those days. Not that I know how old anyone is here. Wonder what happened to that guy. He got under my skin sometimes but I had respect for the guy. I really had respect for most if not all here back then though some really didnt care for me.  And I wonder what became of Gary. I long ago lost touch with him unfortunately, though I feel you and I have spoken about him more recently. And there was a cool guy "M" who lived around me - met him at one of the shows around 2004 here. Of course we both still know MillaZ, the one and only!  I have vague memories of the board even before that (90s?) - that was in that cumbersome "list format" that was more akin to comments format.

Anna WOKent, in that Sequoia talk I meant to ask if you have seen the real.....well I mean the Sequoias in California?

Love the numberplate, also love the Subaru! You've got excellent taste.  :D

Thank you very much. Anyone around here that knows me knows Ive been a huge Subaru fan for years. This is my second Outback - first one took me to 210,000M and I happily bought another a couple years back. Ive been directly responsible for 4 other purchases of Subarus from other people that wouldnt have even considered them otherwise. One would THINK I am due for a good discount. ;)
I never even thought much about cars before owning these.
Thanks again.

Lol I'm lost for words almost. The answer is of course almost anyone can pick up a guitar and make to music to some degree. Hell i own a pen doesn't make me a song writer or a wordsmith. The thing is mr Sullivan just happens to be the best ever imo. Plus the whole gig experience isn't just about the band its so much more the buying of tickets gig n train, the anticipation of watching the calendar the days getting nearer, the journey there the meeting of kindred spirits some who will become friends for life. I wouldn't swap any nma gig I've been to for your guitar and anyway how came you really comment when you have never actually seen nma play. My advice sell the guitar and get yourself over to one of the upcoming shows.

Like the pen simile Pol.
I have another. An arsehole with a camera and a stack of records does not make an album cover designer  ;D

Im sure your English was better than ability to say things in a nice, short,  succinct fashion.

Space, sir, I was in a couple of bands in the 90's... and they weren't very good.  Rollins-inspired ranty metal crap. ENORMOUS fun with great friends who are still close to this day, and we played some halfway decent gigs, but crap all the same.  I don't regret a moment of those days,... but I really struggling to understand the point here.  Were my shitty bands better than NMA just because we did it for ourselves?  By that same token, are you better than The Beatles when you're strumming away in your home?

A couple of other points... not sure about those constant references to Leipzig?  Whats so special about that place?  And I don't think we should be going on about a Forum person not seeing NMA live when they don't get to the US all that often?   ???

One last one for Space... plenty of NMA stuff in your picture... was that all imported?  Must have cost you a fortune!  What's availability like for old NMA vinyl in your parts, much less conventional CD releases?  Genuinely interested in what you have to say on this point!

One of the first things I did when someone showed me the tinternet for the first time was search for NMA. I remember the one page website. While I have kept an eye on things, I only finally joined in 2012. Since then it is clear to see people come and go all the time, sometimes never to be seen again. Even my own bud Barty has now crossed over to the dark side

You're such a massive fan that you can't even get off your arse and go and watch them
I have no desire to see a band play "Get Me Out" for the 493rd time.

Yeah, except for a few of the CDs, all that stuff I had to buy as imports.

Some of it is pretty rare even for Britian. The "Poison Street" 12" in the picture came with a 12 inch live album, the "Stupid Questions" 12 inch came with a massive fold out poster. The seven inch "Brave New World" single and "The Acoustic EP" weren't big sellers across the pond, imagine how tough it was to find them over here back in the day. We had some very good record stores around here back then, but they didn't always get the good stuff...and they didn't get that stuff in large quantities. A lot of it came down to luck finding New Model Army records back then.
