Martin Gore's known for playing that white Gretsch.
So whats my consolation prize?

Gore's guitar is not white, it's a pale shade of green called Smoke Green.
Your consolation prize is a two-dollars-off gift card for a new pair of glasses.

That's not white. It is a vintage white with a lacquer finish in order to give it an aged yellow appearance. It's not white.
Seriously, get yourself to an optometrist. New glasses for you.

I know you East Coasters are the argumentative, fighting type. That was made abundantly clear every time I worked with a mixer/producer here in LA with East Coast roots. But Im not going to argue with you about stage lights and the color tone of a concert photo, or what guitar MLG plays.

Im sure this is a huge waste of your time when you could be spending it writing and recording more songs for us to hear.

You win.

Justin uses Bareknuckle pickups, I think (well, at least one of the guitarists from NMA does), which are in a different league to Gibson's anonymous, machine-wound nasties.

Back on topic (sort of).. back in the day it was quite a big deal when people did their 100th gig of any particular band. Given NMA are in their 35th year - is there anyone close to, or past , their 1000th gig?

That would be about 30 gigs a year, EVERY year since 1980... also taking into account the early 90's 'fallow' period... , gotta say, I doubt it.

Happy to be proved wrong, though...   :D

The twisted mind of Space is blue and in motion
All his space chatter aloof and deranged.
Never silent or wise but offensive and stupid,
A keyboard warrior posting drivel and spam,
Hiding behind his keyboard and monitor,
He should get out more cos he sounds bereft and detached from the big world floating below....

...see you've got me at it now

Probably, only Justin has. 1,000 is a lot and honestly I don't care is they have. I have done less than 50 (because I started really following in 2012), some have done less than 10.

Realistically who is to say the person who has done 1,000 is more passionate than the person who has done 10?

I also don't see why everyone is so wound up about Space. From reading this, he has said nothing offensive but a few others have resulted to name calling.

No 1 will have done a 1000 gigs, have the band even played that many, think about it its nearly 30 gigs a year and there were years they hardly played. I bet someone probably knows how many they have though

I was more curious  as to whether anyone had done it. I don't really think that makes them a better person or anything.

Most folk who go through a few years of intensive gig going then drift off back to a few gigs a year - but there's a few people I see at the odd gigs I go to these days who I recognise from years ago who still seem to be following the band. So I reckon there must be a few on 500+ gigs

Agreed, Jonny and Amandistan... it doesn't matter how many gigs you've seen.  I've racked up a great many over the  years, I don't think it makes me a 'better' fan because of that... in fact, I envy the person going to his or her first NMA gig.  I hope they get the massive buzz and life-changing experience that I did... and spend forthcoming years chasing that same buzz!   :D

That said, I have to say that to truly 'get' NMA, you have to see them live.  The albums are great but the live NMA experience... way beyond price.

NMA have done 1566 gigs

first 9 gigs as the Hustler Street band (09/01/80 to 24/09/80)

First gig as NMA was 23/10/80

Gigs per year as follows:

1980:13
1981:23
1982:16
1983:37
1984:102
1985:79
1986:61
1987:78
1988:20
1989:101
1990:69
1991:67
1992:20
1993:71
1994:8
1995:20
1996:10
1997:16
1998:100
1999:18
2000:50
2001:25
2002:12
2003:10
2004:11
2005:82
2006:68
2007:53 * 31 date USA and Candian tour cancelled due to refusal of visas
2008:57
2009:64
2010:73
2011:14
2012:17
2013:60
2014:35
2015: 6 Up to 15th March Reading Sub 89

So for someone to do 500 or even a thousand is going to be difficult

How many fans have followed the band throughout their whole career

Personally I've been following since Feb 87 and I think I've done around 200 as I didn't miss many UK gigs in late 80's early 90's

It doesn't matter whether you've seen 1,10 or 100 as long as you're going to see them

It's not a competition is it :)
Is is a crime to believe in something different?

I meant what I said at the time that I said it

Can we stop with this "how many times have you seen them live" childish nonsense?

The Beatles were the biggest band in entertainment history. They stopped playing live just three years into their recording career. Knowing that, how many people do you think actually saw them live? Well, they didn't tour for the majority of their career, so not a hell of a lot. No live dates yet, they had/have tens of millions of passionate fans. This "seeing them live" to judge how big a fan of NMA you are nonsense is rather a ridiculous way to judge someone's passion.

The real level of fan passion is not standing at some dump of a club in Leipzig and watch the band play songs. No, real fan passion is actually being so moved by an artist that you want to play their music. To actually want to play those songs is the highest level a fan can achieve. As you know I have bought myself a Gibson SG just so I could play the New Model Army songs that have moved me so much. That's the ultimate connection to a band. A real communion. Last night I took out my guitar and played "Ambition" and "Prison" and "Ballad Of Bodmin Pill." What did you do? Did you see the band last night? No, you didn't. Who connected more with the band: me or you? Who is the bigger fan: me or you? Clearly me.

Space how many more times are are you gonna jerk off by telling you bought an SG? It's getting kinda boring.
