It seems that the TV show and the books are going to be quite divergent now, according to all reports... especially as the next book isn't due out until Christmas 2016 at the earliest...

In the 5 seasons there has been untold horribleness, torture, death, sexual violence, blood & guts and all the rest of it (none of which is a patch on the shit that goes down in the books). So how come the "sacrifice" in the last episode  has created such a fuss?

i think because people are told its wrong

compared to what that bastard in the north done then dying at the stake is not even remotely horrific

the dragon scene at the end end reminded me that this is fantasy which has been hijacked by programming for purpose. i've never read the books but i believe i am about to try. i think everyone here should read a chapter each and send me the audio file and then i can enjoy my two favorite things simultaneously

I don't get it. 

I think it's partly the 'murder of a kiddie' thing and partly because that little girl was one of the few truly innocent / sweet characters in a show where most of the people can be described as 'varying shades of bastard'...

It was rather clumsily done (Father, I'll do anything for you, or whatever she said) and done for maximum outrage... I still fell for the manipulation of it all and was pretty shocked by it.  I'm afraid I've only read the first book but even that far, I can see that things have been toned down quite a bit, particularly regarding the ages of the younger characters.  I don't think they'd have gotten away with Dany being so young in regards to what happened with Drogo... 

I do like GOT a lot and can't wait to see what they do with the finale next week...

Heno, sometimes I wonder what you are talking about but I have to say the idea of a "chapter each audiobook" sounds brilliant 

I try to remember with GOT that it is mass entertainment and as such a lot has to be explicitly spelled out and by what sort of lowest denominator do they have to put those recap bits at the beginning for? May as well just say "This is what's gonna happen this week" Then again maybe it just reflects the intellectual ability of the average viewer in the primary target audience for the TV channel.

So yeah, some stuff is ham-fisted but it's pretty fracking good nonetheless 

Children have been slaughtered in previous episodes and nobody batted an eyelid. There was a scene in one episode where numerous children were killed by a wildling raiding party but 'cos a sweet princess got killed - outrage?

Why?
