Familjen: NMA Documentary on Swedish TV, Sunday (28/6/15)
« on: June 26, 2015, 08:00:02 PM »
Some of you may have been aware of, or was involved in a little documentary for SVT (Sveriges Television), about the NMA Fans. It was produced by highly regarded music journalist Ika Johanneson, and follows my girlfriend Anna, and the effect that the band, and the friendships of the family have had on her life.

It is being shown on Swedish Television this Sunday night, and should be available on SVT Player after broadcast. The only thing that may be an issue is that it is in Swedish, however there is some work behind the scenes to get some English subtitles to be put on an online internet version. I'll let you know about the progress of that, and put links up when they happen :)

I've seen previews of it already, and it looks awesome... there's footage from Leeds and Gothenburg shows from 2013/2014 :) Here's the TV listing, with my (badly) translated English below...
http://www.svt.se/tv-tabla/SVT1/2015-06-28/

"22:55
Fans: Family
During much of her adult life, Anna has lived alone in her apartment, plagued with panic disorder and depression. Through her love of the British band New Model Army and the new found Community in the online fangroup The Family she begins to challenge herself. A film about the power of music and the ability to change lives. Direction and screenplay: Ika Johannesson."

*UPDATE* Link to video now up, English translation also available on page 2 of thread (20-something posts in).

I was interviewed for this at some point. I am glad to hear it happened.
Of course i can't watch it since there is a chance my interview may be on and I can't see myself on film.   Or i panic.

The film has actually had the format changed a little bit during the course of production, and as it has become a 15 minute piece (as part of a series of mini-documentaries called "Fans"), quite a lot of the interviews didn't make it to the final cut... so don't worry!

I should also say that even if you can't understand Swedish (I'm still a long way from being considered fluent!), it is still worth a watch as the English bits are in English, and simply subtitled. If the translations don't happen officially, I'm sure I can post a transcript up on here (will check I am able to, of course) :)

I will of course be expecting a huge surge of popularity in the band in Scandinavia, and a resulting full tour of Sweden, with Gothenburg becoming a new Christmas gig fixture... :D

Please post when you can!  Doesn't matter if it isn't all in English, we'll get the drift!

So how can we watch this Can we get a app (android) I noticed some stv ones next to Scottish ones but couldn't work out what country they were for. Or do we need to go online and watch at the time the programme is being broadcast. Lastly what is the time difference.
I would prefer to watch it on my tablet ( android) n connect that to my chromecast if possible

Well considering the film isn't about you and only 15  minute long I'm guessing lots of the recorded footage hasn't made it to the broadcast. Don't take it so personally for goodness sake.

I think on that basis, Amandistan, several people will be disappointed. To put things into perspective, at the time of the Leeds gig, there wasn't even a firm possibility that the project would go ahead, so a lot of it was don't to show the TV bosses a concept of what the programme was about. It was originally planned to be a half hour "standalone" film, but it was found that it would work better incorporated into a series that happened to be in production at the time, and there was cut to the 15 minute standard for said series. Therefore a lot of the interviews didn't get in, and a few other interesting things. I'm disappointed that my interesting driving skills on the way to Stockholm weren't included (may be a good thing, actually, if I ever wish to hire a car again! :D ). I'm not into how the media works, but that Hopefully goes some way into explaining why some things aren't in it. I must say though, that Ika has done a very good, sympathetic, and thought provoking take on the band and the family, and how it has enriched the life of one fan in particular.

I believe there is a app for SVT Play, or you can watch the programme through your internet browser for a few weeks after broadcast, rather like the BBC iPlayer. As for viewing live, may be a case of needing Swedish television (or maybe Danish/Norwegian cable TV), otherwise catch it online afterwards. I'll put the link up for that when it appears :) I can watch their programmes on my battered old Android phone, but it is still a learning curve for me! Watch this space, etc :)

Link for the programme
http://www.svtplay.se/video/3055730/fans/fans-familjen-avsnitt-1?start=auto
Even works outside of Sweden...but no subtitles other than Swedish.
Click on the T on the bottom of the player and you can get the subtitles.

Oh... I found that so moving... without knowing what any of it was actually about!  Anything other than the English words was lost to me.  Doesn't matter... just the expressions on faces and the use of music and such a true pure enactment of what a meet between NMA folks is all about... utterly loved it.

Still, wouldn't mind a translation, especially in relation to the bearded fella in the photo...  :-[
