Original vs. cover
« on: December 11, 2015, 07:00:51 PM »
Okay,

Please post links here to an original song and then to a cover about it.
So we'd discuss which is better; the original or a new cover. Did they maybe bring something new feeling on it?

I'll start with The Antisect and their song called Brighter Than Thousand Suns.
Then goes a cover by the Raw Noise.

Superb idea for a thread, sir!

Wonderful Christmastime, original by Sir Macca of Beatleland, nice enough Christmas party tune if you're having that sort of a time... but the Tom Mcrae cover strips it right down to something truly melancholy and, IMO, reflects the fact that Christmas can also be a sad time for many people who don't have fun lives...

Original (if you really need to hear it...)

The cover...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCVi5Tn2SJc

An example of how you can make a crappy song sound great...  I'll be back with others...

Whoa, I see what you mean. There really are some great examples who've done it a way better. The original you put is...eh.. real shite I admit. When I clicked on it I instantly realised what song it is and stopped it right there ;).  But now I listen to the cover at a same time writing this with much more patience. Good I'd say.  :)

Me and my wife are somewhat into christmas. Not religious but spending nice time with generic and so on.

An Bowie original

And then the Blitz cover

I think the original is better though the latter is a way more rocky. I'll go for Bowie.  8)

Although I have only Poison Idea's version on a vinyl/cd I think GISM is hard to beat in here. There's no one like them. Very freaky sounding and authentic HC from early start of 80's in Nippon.

Hala (from the Anglo-Saxon word "halh", meaning nook or remote valley), until it was gifted by King Henry II to Welsh Prince David Owen and became known as Halas Owen

Good morning.

Let's start a brand new day with a Tony Christie's song In The Avenues and Alleyways. It was year 1973.

And then there was a version brought us by the G.B.H. (in 1986).

Coldplay vs. Ed Alleyne-Johnson...

BUMP!

i LOVE both versions for completely different reasons.

original song:  "Clocks"  by  Coldplay

as covered by:  Ed Alleyne-Johnson
'Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward,
for there you have been and there you will always long to return.'

'Just as courage imperils life,
fear protects it.'
