Beginning is a grower! Agreed  ;)

Here's an acoustic version back from 2014:

I totally love this version in all its understated beauty and I was really hoping for it to be included on Winter in this stripped down form, kinda like 'These Words'. It took a bit to accept the much heavier album version but I love them both now.

Gotta say, much as I enjoyed hearing JS play this solo at Kidderminster or Hebden Bridge think the album version is killer:love it  8), definately a favourite at the moment but running close with Eyes Get Used To The Darkness

Devil

I have been listening to it for about 2 hours, it makes me so angry....i don't know why. The hotel room i am staying in is absolutely trashed because i have been dancing in my own little pit. I will apologize in advance if someone happens to bump into me when this is played live!

Born Feral is a tune and a half. Love Drifts too. Lots of touching and thought-provoking lyrics on this record, and some really beautiful musical pieces. So far - wonderful

Haven't listened to anything else for a full week now - love the variety and sheer adventure of this.

Having been a fan for over 30 years, I think Winter and BDAW are probably the two most interesting 'full' albums, back-to-back, that they've produced for various reasons. I fully admit to thinking such was an impossibility at this stage in their career and with such a fantastic history which had already set the standard high. Is it because of 'fresh blood', Justin's constant evolution as a songwriter and musician or simply the 'perception', or otherwise, that they are going from strength to strength. Whatever it is, it is magnificent - both on stage and in the studio.

Born Feral is simply a mesmerising masterpiece which stops you progressing to Die Trying, because you keep going back for more and more. In fact, I must have listened to it about 20 times in a row before I ventured further. The only other songs that did something similar to me back in the day were No Rest, Here Comes the War and Headlights.

Other standouts from the very first listening are, well, quite simply, the rest of the album minus Beginning, although it has certainly grown on me since.

This album gives hope to us all - there certainly is life after 50!  ;)

I'm completely obsessed with Born Feral. Wow. Devil is great, Die Trying, Winter, and I'm sure the rest will continue growing on me.

Does anyone else really like "After Something" ?

I love it. Look forward to it as the album gets towards the end. Perfect mix of acoustic and electric guitar. Pleasant easy going tune. Love the lyrics. Although at the beginning it mentions kicking snow from boots, for some reason it paints a clear picture of Summer in my mind and the love of travelling. Must be the "sleeping in the long grass" line, you wouldn't want to do that in the snow !

Great end to a great album

Yes Shush I really like After Something too. My favourite on the whole record. The second half of the album all just kind of builds up to this song, like a crescendo of pure emotion. Absolutely love it...

I third that. Part the Waters too also and Weak and Strong. the three best moments of the album for me.

I love them all, but am finding that, when not listening to the album, Drift and Stragoula are the ones I find myself humming/singing at work/in the shower
I meant what I said at the time that I said it.
