Sports & olympics (upcoming, scores etc.)
« on: February 16, 2018, 08:16:17 AM »
Whether anyone watching sports, olympics, football, ice hockey, rugby...ehh Super Bowl probably...? Here we can talk about it, where ever it is in the world!  :)

I know there are for sure people out there who are bigger maniacs when it comes to sports too. But personally I like a bit of chatting about "how cool was a competition" and "what a contest!"

Right now I've been watching Pyeongchang's 2018 winter olympics held in South Korea. It's gonna be a exciting weekend with all the freakin' moments...having a sauna, watching all alpine skiings, cross-country skiings, biathlon, short track speed skating and ice hockey...

I'm quite a big sports fan but it's mainly football  (soccer)  . It's been the first part the of the champions league and Europa league knockout stages this week.  Good wins for all the UK teams so far.  My main interest is Scottish football, Yes the teams don't have much money especially compared to the English teams . As a Kilmarnock fan , we have been doing really well of late,  7 home wins in a row including victories over the old firm  (Celtic and rangers). As a fan of one the smaller teams wins are all the more sweet .
The six nations rugby is 2 games in,  Scotland lost their opening game against Wales n won the 2nd against France.
Not big on the winter Olympics but can watch some of the faster paced events . Would think the only Scots to bring home medals will be in curling lol .

Not a massive sports fan,but I have watched some of the highlight shows for this Winter Olympics and been quite impressed.  Some of the events are high octane for fearless people. The half-pipe particularly impressive. It must take many a broken bone to learn how to spin in the air several times then land on a frozen ice curve .
The longer this century goes on, the more I feel I belong in the last one.

Brits have been quite excellent in half-pipe if I remember right? Some tough names during the years. Yea, when you think about the surroundings and climate there and that they're competing 800 meters above the sea level the winds must be very difficult.

Curling is actually quite interesting. I heard in the radio how someone said he tried the game and found out in how many different ways you can affect to the movement of the puck/discus.

Hala (from the Anglo-Saxon word "halh", meaning nook or remote valley), until it was gifted by King Henry II to Welsh Prince David Owen and became known as Halas Owen

I'm a huge sports fan. I come from a family of boxers, but I love and appreciate all sports.

My five favorite sporting events are:
- Indy 500
- basketball playoffs
- Olympics (summer or winter)
- Wimbledon and US Open tennis tournaments
- Super Bowl (Justin did this year's halftime show :))

Winter Olympics thus far have been rather drab. Only been three wow moments:
-- Shaun White - The Flying Tomato - winning gold in the snowboard half-pipe
-- Norway's Krueger coming from last place to win gold the 30 km cross-country skiiing
-- US women's curling team beating UK women's team

Iivo Niskanen won gold in 50km cross country skiing. I'm so glad on behalf of him and shed tears for the contest. And tomorrow his sister Kerttu Niskanen will be competing at the 30km skiing.
