Who Is Graham Norton?
« on: July 11, 2019, 01:54:05 AM »
I have just discovered a show called "The Graham Norton Show." It's on here in the USA on BBC America channel. I caught an episode and couldn't believe how perfect and funny this Norton is. I love Johnny Carson and David Letterman, but I will have to say that this Graham Norton might be a better talk show host than those legends.

Who is he? I see he was a TV comedy actor, but how is his talk show received over there in the UK? Is he beloved or just considered a prat? I have to tell you, I watch a clip of his on youtube and an hour later I am still watching clips. He's so addictive.

.
That's not exactly true -- and it's probably the reason why I enjoy his show so much. True, Norton does get fun out of his guests, but he does not dig deep at all. Does any guest ever reveal anything emotional? No. Graham simply gets them to tell funny stories. Have a laugh. Mr. Norton is by no means a great interviewer. Howard Stern is that. Howard gets the fun out of his guests and some revealing or heavy stuff from them, too. The Graham Norton Show is simply just for laughs. As I said, maybe that's why I enjoy it.

(There was one guest - a cricket player - who did get serious. But you can tell Norton didn't want to go there. It was a lifesaver that Taylor Swift was also a guest on that couch and she knew nothing of cricket. She thought a test match was a "chest match"...that made everybody laugh and lightened the serious mood the cricket player was wrongly pursuing.)

Ok, I'll rephrase. He gets the best out of his guests in relation to the format / point of the show. It's meant to be light-hearted entertainment, and doesn't set out to be serious, emotional etc. Given that, it achieves what it sets out to be very well. Some people have become regular guests. Tom Hanks for example has been on it 3 or 4 times I think.

That's accurate. I agree completely.

The show is a good time show and Graham is incredibly skilled at delivering that. I will say best host I have ever seen at creating and sustaining a fun time.
