Well actually it is the Grand...just to explain...friends of mine are starting a live music venue at the old Lingards nightclub in Westgate, Bradford.
They aim to bring in the big bands from around the UK (and the ones resident in Bradford) whilst putting on support acts of local up and coming bands....
As everyone will know Bradford has an historical wealth of musical talent....and it is such a shame that it is so overshadowed by Leeds in terms of larger venues especially now Penningtons is no more.
The Grand can hold 700 (which is more than the Cockpit in Leeds) and the opening night is on 25th February 2012 - the evening is being headlined by LaikaDog (which is Tony Wright from Terrorvisions other band) supported by local acts Analog Bombs, Idiotbox and Thee Deadtime Philarmonic....there will also be a burlesque show....yeah I know it might not be your kind of music but Im asking all the locals on the forum to come out for one night to support local live music in our city. The tickets are £3 (100 first to apply get in free) and you cannot ask for more than that...four bands for £3 and a venue which will hopefully put Bradford more on the musical map than it is now.....
If you arent local or cant make it...please tell your friends....too many moan about the lack of places for bands to play where they wont get ripped off or charged or the like....and this is one place that is being organised by music lovers for lovers of music and for people who make music....
Cheers

Sorry going down to Gibbos 40th bash that weekend

No excuse :)
Honestly though if anyone knows of any bands the promoters have posted this:
"This is a shout out to all bands, management and promotors. We are interested in working with any of the above to establish this venue as one of the biggest and best in Yorkshire. Anyone that is interested in playing or promoting then please get in touch. Any management that would like to get their acts on at the club then please let us know. Come and check it out on the 25th. Hope to see you all there."
If you are interested you can find them on facebook at Live Lounge at Utopia :)

looking forward to this, it'll be good to see a decent sized venue in the city centre; might not have to go Leeds to get a gig of my own any more either!
I just hope it takes off, my recent experiences of gig nights in Bradford have been most underwhelming.
-
Same here...have moved out Keighley way and its impossible to get back from Leeds gigs without paying a fortune so a Bradford venue will be ace....
Ive heard rumours that they have another night lined up next month with an iconic act playing...not sure if thats iconic to Bradford or not.....
I just hope that people support the venue to keep it going....live music needs people behind it and people in front of it to keep it going....I hope you like LaikaDog if you've not seen them before...theyre not everyones cup of tea but they are all good musicians (especially the drummer) and Tony always puts on a good show....so hopefully see you there :)

Bradford used to get better bands than Leeds at the Queens Hall and St Georges. I miss those days.
