I was already peeved at missing Flogging Molly there due to being on holiday; now I am double peeved! At the same time I am overjoyed to miss out on Kiss and Queen  ;)

NEW MODEL ARMY
Legendary post-punk heroes NEW MODEL ARMY join the SONISPHERE cast for a very special late night set on Friday night in BOHEMIA after headliners KISS wrap up the APOLLO stage.
Forming in Bradford in 1980, NMA earned a highly dedicated and impassioned fanbase through their combination of angry punk, modern-day protest folk and anthemic political chanting, which included the likes of Brazilian metallers SEPULTURA who covered “The Hunt”.
Their set in BOHEMIA will be highly anticipated, and serve to showcase the diversity and wide range of music on offer at SONISPHERE this summer.

Went to Sonisphere on the Saturday last year as Therapy? were playing the equivalent post headliner slot in Bohemia.  I really enjoyed the day there, met up with quite a few folk who were there for the weekend and enjoyed a number of bands that I perhaps wouldn't normally go and see individually or at the usual type of festival I go to.

Not sure yet this year; will have to see...

A great line up, what with NMA, Nephs AND Faith No More!!! Would also like to see Within Temptation, although their decent stuff was a long while back now.... Like you Hughie, I'm undecided at the mo. May just stick with BD...

cannot believe it - have been to sonisphere for its first 3 years - decided to give it a miss this year due to the god awful line up that was first announced and heading for download instead!

son is a pretty good festival - nice site and good atmos - bohemia is a good tent but smallish - get in early if you are going because both therapy, killing joke and the sisters have seen the tent full and people not being allowed in.

Word on t'internet today that Sonisphere may have been cancelled.....

(and other sites posting similar)

It could just be a rumour going wild, of course, but you'd think the Sonisphere organisers would be quick to respond if that's the case..... guess we'll have to wait and see.

It's looking a bit more like the rumours are true.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/17536642 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/17536642)  Though an official announcement is expected tomorrow.

Assuming it's true, it's real shame for those who were going, not to mention those who have flights etc booked.  Perhaps NMA can play somewhere nearby on the same date???  Go on.  :)

We have yet to hear anything about this. Instead of spreading this rumour shall we wait? I'm currently trying to get some clarification so i'll let you know the full sp as soon as I hear anything.

Sonisphere is definitely cancelled - here is the official blurb:

"It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012.

Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated and we have spent the last few months fighting hard to keep Sonisphere in the calendar. Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere’s audience would rightly expect.

We want to express our deepest regrets to the artists and to thank all the staff, suppliers and contractors who worked so hard with us to try and pull off what has proven to be an impossible task and we know how much they share in our disappointment.  We also want to send a huge thanks to the Sonisphere fans who stuck by us and we are so sorry that we can’t fulfil what we set out to do.

Ticket holders will automatically receive a full refund direct from their ticket agents.

Team Sonisphere."

Does that translate as poor ticket sales?

With a couple of obvious exceptions - the line seemed a bit ropey & not very focused for the size of the festival - particularly given the competition and economic climate.

To be honest I thought the line up was bloody shocking baring the obvious it was wilfully eclectic and vert "light" as opposed to last years Big 4 n what have you..... Very odd set of bands it was......

The line up was a disgrace - even the thought of NMA playing there wasnt enough to sway me there.

a pity as like previously mentioned I have enjoyed the festival - last years was one of the best ive been to - maybe following 3 good and promising years (metallica , maiden, metallica) this year they could not get a line up.

I hope everyone who did get a ticket gets full refund.

Wonder if any of the bands, one in particular, will book 'something' to take its place. As Hundred Reasons are free that day now as well maybe a double header is on the cards. Its good to dream....
