I vowed No more arena gigs after the Specials last year but this is too tempting. We are in for Newcastle, Manchester and Brum.

The Mission were shit at Brixton Academy, I'm reliably informed that the Cult have been utter toss recently and the the thought of seeing the awesome Killing Joke in an arena with its ******* awful rules, prices and stewards fills me with nothing but horror. I also seriously doubt if the ticket prices will be anything bordering on reasonable. **** this...

But that's not everyone's opinion, Guy. More people who I spoke to after the Mission gigs  enjoyed them than not. We both had a great time. Also enjoyed the Cult last year. Each to our own, hey.  ;)

Gotta admit, Arena gigs aren't the best do, but it'll be as much a social event as ever I guess. Lets face it, how much longer can we expect The likes of the 3 bands to carry on touring consistently? Plus Killing Joke were phenominal the other week........ Aint seen Astbury n Duffy or Mr Hussey in 20 odd years....... Might aswell give it a go. Plus it makes my good lady very happy........ Bonus! ;D

Not keen on stadium gigs. Last time we saw Mr Hussey it was a solo tour, just him, a piano and a few bottles of wine he proceeded to swig all night. Now that was a gig.

Hate arenas too, but I'll have to go to this (only the London show though): KJ are great, the Mish - though the Brixton gig wasn't their best by any stretch - are always fun live, don't really care about The Cult much but surely they'll play those 3/4 classics everyone wants to hear. Plus, if past gigs of this sort are anything to go by (the Mission;s 'last ever tour' in 2008 and the Mish/Nephs gig last year) there will be people I know and very rarely see from literally all over Europe (I'm getting 'booking requests' for crash space at mine already :D) so it'll be great socially.

Shame the London date is a Sunday but hey, can't always expect to have the best day of the week.

Thinking about London, but I dunno...  Wembley... Sunday... complete sod to get to - I could probably get to Birmingham quicker...

Up the upside £42.25 isn't nearly so awful as it could have been, given the venue.

i love the Mish, but i stand by what i said after the shit Brixton show last year - they should have left it at the "farewell" gigs at SBE (the final night being one of the greatest gigs i have EVER been to).

that said - i'm sure i'll end up going to the london show.

I agree with everyone's comments about sterile, corporate arenas - completely soulless places....but this is a crackin' line up so may do Sheffield. Not seen the Mission for about 15 years.....saw Killing Joke in 2005 and they were a bit too industrial and shouty for my liking but I love their early stuff.....saw the Cult last year at Rock City - Duffy was amazing but Astbury gave a lazy performance and repeatedly did that irritating 'hold the mic to the crowd so I don't have to sing' thing....they were collectively pretty good but I sensed Duffy must have been thinking "come on Ian, put a bit more effort in!". Just my thoughts.....cracking set tho'

As we were planning a short London citytrip in august or september i think we're gonna do a short concert trip instead. We have never attended a gig in the UK so i hope someone can tell me a little bit more about the venues in London and Birmingham. We prefer to be as close to the stage as possible and i like to show my face in the pit. As my wife's birthday is september 15th i'm planning to buy tickets for Birmingham as well because i cannot make here more happy with this.

Yep.
The gig will be as good as the crowd makes it.
It's worth 40 squids if you ask me.
Tickets booked.
See you in Burminum.

I'm not sure there will be a "pit" - the venues are big corporate arenas that are likely to be all seated.

As everyone says - great line up & nostalgia for us middle aged folk - but rubbish venues.

I remember a Summer 91 gig at Finsbury Park (not sure if it's the same one you mention)

Rollins Band / Killing Joke / NMA / Mission

Couldn't bloody well go as I'd got a wedding reception I could NOT miss.......my bro' and mate went and said it was a belter.....cheers chaps! I'm pretty sure it was the gig at which my bro' bought a Raw Melody Men t-shirt with 'Summer '91' on the back...?

Sorry, back to the thread  ;)

I'll be doing Manchester. The thing about KJ and The Mish being on the same bill is that in 1986, I went to Reading Festival for the first time ever to see both these bands...but came away raving about another band that I'd previously heard of, but knew nothing much about. 26 years and over 120 gigs later, here I am!

The only 'arena' gig I've ever been to was the Sisters at NEC in 92. It was brilliant for the simple reason that there were a small number of standing 'down the front' tickets and if you didnt turn round you felt like you were in a (reasonably) intimate gig  ;D. Behind it looked like an aircraft hangar though and you had to feel sorry for the people sat there...  I would have hated it

I do fancy seeing at least one of the gigs on this tour 'cos it does sound a great line-up and if they were proper venues it would be storming. My question to all the knowledgeable folks here is based on venue alone, if you were just going to one, which would be the best one? Do you think any will have standing tickets? Thanks!

I've been to a few Arenas although some apparently have seating only for the, ahem, more easy listening acts, but for bands like KJ, Mission & The Cult I would imagine all will have a sizeable amount of standing....although having said that I did once see the Sisters at the NEC too (possibly the same gig - they opened with Floyd's Comfortably Numb) so best check with the venues as the seating could be very limited.

There are standing tix in Brum.

 :)

Thanks for that WW, me and the good lady may go there now.....hurry up pay day!

I got standing tickets for Wembley - wouldn't have bought them otherwise, in the whole of my life I've been to one gig where I could only get seats and I hated it, I'd rather not go to the gig.
How many there are I don't know though, so I suggest you don't live it too late cos they (standing tix) are normally the first to sell out.

I think that was the Sisters gig I was at too, with Murder Inc on the bill as well? As I say, a good night were it not for the night trains back to Euston being replaced by buses (which failed to turn up).... strange what you remember sometimes isn't it...?

Thanks for info on standing tickets - just booked them for Brum on Saturday and London on Sunday....  internet + credit card + bottle of wine = a risky but satisfying combination  ;D
