Title: Newcastle Under Lyme 1990?
Post by: lostockboy on April 12, 2012, 03:19:51 PM
Does anybody know if NMA played somewhere in Newcastle Under Lyme in 1990??  I've recently watched a DVD which was supposedly from a gig at Queens Hall in Oldham from 1990 but during the concert Justin talks about the people from the surrounding area of Newcastle Under Lyme so I assumed that's where this gig took place, any know anything?

<From memory> I'm pretty sure they didn't play Newcastle Under Lyme then.  I was at uni down that way up to 1990 and so I'm pretty sure I would have remembered it.  There was a gig in Oldham but I didn't go to it as I'd just finished my final exams and there was something else going on (can't remember what but a piss up of some sort no doubt!)

In terms of proximity to Oldham, could there have been some confusion (or maybe an intentionally humourous mix up) between Ashton Under Lyne and Newcastle Under Lyme?

Is there a really drunk hippy guy falling off pyramids on the dvd? If so - it was Oldham June 1990 - the drunkest i've ever been in public....

Anyway.. there's a list of 1990 gigs at

I've just extracted the audio from the DVD which enabled me to get a better listen to it and where I thought Justin had said Newcastle Under Lyme he had in fact said Newcastle Upon Tyne.  Old age catching me up once again, yes I am now officially deaf as well as stupid.  I traded the DVD as the Oldham gig from 1990 so the Newcastle reference threw me so I checked Janek's site to compare set lists and it is from 1990 but looking at pictures of the Oldham venue, Queen Elizabeth Hall, it's not from there.  I looked at pictures of The Riverside in Newcastle and yes it looks like that's where it was recorded at but the set list doesn't exactly match what Janek has on his site.  Anyway thanks for the replys
