Why are they doing this anyway?

I was asking myself the same: why?
Seems the venue is making quite a big thing out of this gig.
Well, I m not going to fly over to the UK just to buy a pre sale ticket at some venue's door.
I'll (have to) wait till Monday.

I presume it's to give the Bradford locals a chance to get a ticket before the hordes (i.e. Us) snaffle them all on line.

That's almost exactly what I was about to write, and probably because this was (I think) originally announced as a bit of a "thank you to Bradford" gig.

I almost feel guilty and not welcome, being a Dutchie who's travelling abroad to see NMA in their hometown.
But on the other hand; I will be staying in Bradford for 2,5 days so I am sure the local shops, restaurants
and hotels are happy to see me ..  ;)

Marloes - don't feel guilty and I can guarantee you will be welcome!!!

Apparently only 50 tickets available and only from the box office at the venue.

This is over on Facebook:

"Live Lounge at Utopia
Ok, to save any confusion, or telling offs from P13, I'll start again in laymans terms!!! Make sure you are comfy as this could take a while!!!

This Saturday 28th April 2012, we are releasing 50 (Fifty) NMA (New model Army - Random Men Only) tickets for sale for the gig they are playing at The Live Lounge Bradford on Thursday 28th June 2012.

These 50 (Fifty) tickets for the above gig will go on sale from 10am (10:00hrs) and will be on sale ONLY from the venue's box office, this is situated in the main entrance of the building, the address for The Live Lounge Bradford is:
29 - 31 Westgate
Bradford
West Yorkshire
BD1 2QT
And to save anymore confusion, this is in England, which is part of the United Kingdom!!

Now the statement, "ONLY available from the box office" means that you can't buy these 50 (Fifty) tickets over telephone.

There will be signage on the main entrance doors stating that you have come to the correct building to hopefully have the chance to purchase yourself a ticket!!

With there only being 50 (Fifty) tickets on sale on Saturday 28th April 2012, these will be on a first come first served basis!!!

Hope this info helps :)"

Comes over a bit stroppy to me!  :-X

Sarcastic so and so... might call them and ask if I can buy a ticket over the phone as the info was a bit ambiguous...

Also, anyone have any idea how many tickets they are selling on the day?

Everyone here at NMAHQ, and that includes the band themselves, are rather taken aback by this statement from The Utopia. The person who wrote this on Facebook is not the person we have been dealing with at the venue, who is very excited about NMA playing there and has been genuinely helpful. We can only apologise to anyone who has been offended by the sarcastic and, at one point, seemingly zenophobic tone of this statement.

The original idea behind the pre-sale was to allow Bradfordians the chance to buy tickets before the rest go on sale through Seetickets on Monday 30th April. We will be putting up a link for these tickets Monday morning.

Can I just say that I am quite glad they are doing the presale as I will be working at 10am on Monday and am not allowed access to the internet at work so wouldn't stand a chance of getting a ticket....I think that may possibly have been part of their thinking as well.  I would be very suprised if it doesnt sell out really quickly so it gives those of us who cannot get online a chance to go get tickets :)

That's fine, but the snotty tone is a bit off. Plus the fact that a number of people ARE traveling from abroard, this all smells of mates of mates getting tickets to flog at big money on the night. Folks with no interest in going to the gig, or in NMA come to that........
Very odd, and not ideal to say the least......

Having read the thread - i'm not sure what all the fuss is about. I presume the capacity is more than 51? If you dont live in Bradford - book the tickets  on Monday.

As far as I know no mates of mates are being offered tickets...I am friends with a couple of the guys involved and at no point have they said "Do you want a ticket"...everything is being done above board. They are all fans of the band and Im not sure where you get the idea that its a presale to sell to people who are going to sell them on...as I said in my post I wont have a chance of buying them online so its perfect for me and I am a fan (of many years standing) and will be going and queuing and buying them as anyone else in the area can do.  If folk are travelling from abroad surely they will be buying the tickets first so they know they have them due to the restricted number of tickets - which the band have asked for not the venue?    And even if there was no presale it doesnt stop those who want to buy them and then sell them on ebay doing it....and I am sure it will happen but it will not be the folk organising it who will be doing it.  Besides if they just wanted their mates to make a quick buck out of it why announce the presale why not just email their mates and tell them they could buy 50 tickets in advance?

I dont understand what the problem is with the presale?  Or is it fine for those that can access the net to have the chance to buy them?  I can't imagine there will be many left by the time I get home at 6pm......

I have no problem with the presale - just the sarcastic message. It wouldn't be too bad if there was an element of humour in it.

Something has to be done with ticket selling in general though - it makes my blood boil when touts etc snap up tickets to make a fast buck, when true fans are left having to miss out or pay multiple times the odds. I'm not talking about this gig, just every gig nowadays.

On a lighter note, good luck one and all - it'll be an amazing gig ;)

That's the exact point really Barty mate. Anyways, I'll not be queue-tastifried on Saturday, I'll be phoneline frenzied on Monday. Happy days.....

Unfortunately sometimes when folk write things down everyone reads them a different way...its the problem with words...they can be the most dangerous things ever depending on how and when you read them.  I am sure the person who wrote it didn't mean to offend.

Touts are abhorrent...and its a shame there is no way of getting round them getting hold of tickets...I guess unless you do it through a place like this where people are registered but then it precludes people who don't take part in forums.  I guess the only way round it would be to sell tickets on the door on the night and straight in entry one ticket per person...but thats not valid for large venues....

Anyway think of me queuing Saturday morning in the lovely Bradford rain :)

Are touts something NMA have really suffered from (well not since the early 90s anyway)?

For whatever the reason was for selling 50 tickets in advance, I'm glad, if true Pazza, that it's been abandoned. If the band wanted Bradfordians there to say thank you, then that in itself is a great gesture and should be praised. But they surely know who they are and could have held them back?
Marloes, don't feel guilty mate just get over here, be first in the Que on Saturday at 10am, buy 50 tickets and pay for your airfare on the profits.
 ;)
As for the "sarky" response on facebook , things are often said/typed and taken the wrong way, I misunderstood it too. I now know I have to phone the venue at 10am Saturday for my ticket, cos there not selling them online ;)
Hope all that want to go get a ticket and are happy.
Are there any restrictions on how many tickets you can buy as it's such a low number? I hope so!

Oh dear ...  :-[

I was not, at any time, trying to start a discussion or whatever.
That is why I posted a  ;)  behind my comment.

Hotel and flight is booked so I will be in Bradford anyway which is
a good thing cause I have never been there before, I will meet
some great people again, I can enjoy an English city and I guess I
will be able to buy tickets online and see the gig, no doubt about it.

Happens at work constantly authors rightly are very talented because apparently its very difficult to judge tone from the written word as we all have different ways of saying things !
That's why we prefer to talk ;) then you know by all the other accompanied  body language, tone etc !
I think it was just poorly worded ....However convenient this medium
is its not like real interaction! And enough debates have been sparked on here by the odd inflammatory sentence for us all to take this with a pinch of salt !

My twopenneth ;)

Cnt wait for the shows!

The venue is right in the town centre mate. There's a fair few omn street parking sites, and couple of NCP type places. Not sure if they are all 24 hour though, I think the one near the Honest Lawyer Hotel is though. I think that's what it's called. It's fairly new though and I've been away from home town over 10 years now.

There is a car park in Kirkgate which is opposite the venue but not sure of the opening times...I am going into Bradford tomorrow and should be near there so will check to see what the times are.  Aside from the other NCP down near Jurys as Stoney said I think the nearest other place would be down by Forster Square station but I wouldn't leave anything there!!!

Kirkgate Arndale Centre car park closes at 18:30. There's no parking immediately next to the venue but on a Thursday evening there should be plenty of on-street parking within a short walk of the venue. Tricky one-way system to negotiate but nowhere near as bad as The Loop in Leeds.

There is also parking up near where the Love Apple used to be...you have to pay but might be cheaper than the NCP and its just a short walk up the hill :)
