Why are these never on the Wednesday/Thursday night... *shakes fist*
-
Very unlikely that I'll be able to make it, just in case... what's the capacity of the venue? Is it likely to sell out soon (or at all)?
-
I understand that it holds about 450.
Will it sell out? I'd like to think so.

Not surprised warm-up is Bristol - quite surprised it is the Fleece as from what I've heard they have been puling anti-fascist type bands due to pressure from the far right?
Maybe I've only heard part of the story - these things tend to have many sides or it was just a promoter rather than venue issue.
Only reference I can find at the moment is from the Spanner website

Re The Fleece
"......For those that are unaware of the situation, the Oppressed, a well known and much respected antifascist band were due to play an antifascist benefit there on April 21st this year, along with a lot of good, political local bands. When there was the slightest threat of trouble from the far right against the gig, the venue management decided to pull out of the gig, leaving gig organisers in a difficult situation of finding another venue at short notice. This was done without any real effort to discuss the problem or work to find any solution to ensure the gig could go ahead....."
As I say hopefully it isn't anything major and no doubt some Bristol based people can explain what happened further.
-
I've been going to The Fleece for donkeys years and have seen many different bands and never seen any trouble (unless you count being covered in flour at a King Kurt gig) !
:D
-
There's been a bit of TOO n FRO grief from Far Right twats around there.........
We got some fucktard Stiff arm us when we played, he was soundly twatted all over inside and outside the place. There was a few knobs with S****Driver pin badeges floatin' about, and it was the first time The Business had played Bristol in donkeys..........
Last resort got pulled not long after, the Oppressed also got their gig pulled due to wankers posting threats to fire bomg the place and all sorts coz it was an AFA benefit gig..........
Dunno the full details, but I can go find out from Anti-Fash stuff I'm involved in a bit elsewhere if needs be?
The venue itself is really good, great set up, good gear, nice folks. Pretty sure it'll sell out. We had 250 punters at the Business/Keyside Strike gig.......... 8)

Is this venue central? Looking at Premier Inn /Travelodge etc...

The fleece is very central, just a few minutes' walk from Temple Meads station.

Great little venue, too. Will have to have a thuink about whether its worth running away from Bidets for the evening.

Well, I've just made them two closer to that goal ;)
-
Yep, me two too. Driving there and back on the same day / night though. :( :'(
-
Can we not tempt you with the splendour of the Ibis?
-
I'd love to stay over - but Griff has to get back to Shropshire for a 1pm wedding the next day....which I need to be at from 6pm to do my DJ duties. If we stay, we drink.....if we drink, we stay....if we do either or both, the next day becomes difficult. :(

No stamina you Mid- Wales Lads.. :P Its only a 2 hour drive from Bristol to Shrewsbury.. Stay out and play, you only have to leave Bristol around 11ish the next day, whats difficult about that? ;) :D

Impossible for me. Fckn' Olympics games mean very expensive flights. I dont't find flights under 300 € Madrid - Bristol.
:'(
-
This would be an amazing start to the weekend if it were on the Thursday but obviously the festival's started by the Friday.

Bristol would always be more expensive though as there's not so many flights - did you check London prices, although obviously they are going to be up too?
-
Olympics closing ceremony it on 12 August, so the games shouldn't be a factor in terms of incoming flights to the UK by then. Perhaps other (seasonal?) factors are to blame for higher prices.
I've done the off site warm ups from previous Bdays, once I've already been on site (Weston SM and Poole - not all the way back up to Wolverhampton though). Not sure this time. the overall BD line up looks good, so it depends what I'd be missing on the Friday night by going to Bristol.

We're driving. ;D

Yes but looked at the other way, getting back for 1pm will make the day of the gig difficult... Could they maybe delay the start? ;D ;D ;D
-
Blame Griff. He's the one with the 1pm invite. They don't want me til 6pm! >:(
-
We'll do our best to encourage him... ;)
-
I've been to the Fleece a coupe of times myself. It's a great place for getting up close to the band. Pretty small though. And stand near the bar if you can because once it fills up it's rough trying to get to the bar and back!
-
I seem to have gone and booked a train and hotel for me and Griff so that we can play out in Bristol after all... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Nice one - funny how these things just seem to happen, huh? Gonna be a great night :)
-
Someone on FB has just posted that there's under 30 tickets left, so if anyone was leaving it to the last minute then that would be about now.
-
Hi anyone know stage times as I have little chance of getting to Brisol before 7ish.
I'm banking on 8/8:30?
-
The Fleece's website says doors at 7 and that it's NMA plus Special Guests so I reckon your estimate is on the safe side. (Depending on who the special guests are ;) )

Stage times tomorrow:
Support: 20.15
NMA: 21.00ish
Apparently there's under 30 tickets left so get 'em while you can!
-
Thanks Maggi/Vic
I'll be on the 1st train I can as soon as I finish work, which means when the last bin of the day is empty on my round so I'll be running like a nutter today and hopefully catch the support and a pint.

Oops I put Vic when I was thinking Viv...sorry :-\

Looking forward to this! Especially as I've met up with some old companeros who I didn't even know were living in Bristol. I guess if they play Red Earth tonight it is going to be very poignant after yesterdays events...?

-
So who was supporting ... ?
Or shall I just don't ask anymore stupid questions? ;)
-
Phil King supported. Fairly uninspiring to be honest.
-
Excellent gig. I've not been out in a while so I well and truly enjoyed myself. Brilliant set list, ace crowd and Justin was on fine form. Quite jovial at times.
Bluebeat and No Greater Love would have been nice though.
Have a great weekend all at Beautiful Days.
