Hi Guys,
So, I was thinking back to a band I saw supporting NMA at the London Astoria back in October... well, I think it was 2005 or 2006. Either way, it was the last time NMA played that that great venue. I remember thinking they were really good and wanting to check them out further but never got round to it, time got in the way, etc...
I'd really like to know who that band were. Judging from the reaction that they got, some of the band, at least the singer, were from another band that might have been big in the 80's. I think they had a really good song called 'the stuff that dreams are made of' or something like that.
Any ideas? Thanks for reading.

Mark Burgess(ex Chameleons) and the Sons of God supported NMA on 15th October 2005 at the London Astoria
-
There were also Astoria gigs in December 2006/2007/2008. Not sure what the supports were though.
-
It was Mark Burgess in Manchester too, and they were excellent.

Cheers for the answers, guys! Might have to look into some Mark Burgess stuff, his set really was good.
The Astoria was open until 2008? Damn, my memory is getting bad in my old age!
Thanks again.

I think that they played under the name Bird, but it was definitely Mark Burgess. They played a mixture of Chameleons songs, their own stuff and a cover, I think, of an Alice Cooper song, although I will say I'm a little hazy about the cover. I'll dredge my memory for the title of the song - the lyrics gosomething like "if this is the stuff dreams are made of/no wonder I feel like I'm floating on air"
It was a bit of a bonus, the Chameleons were a much underrated band, back in the day, and it was the first NMA gig I'd been to for quite a while....

the song is called Second Skin and is from the Script of the Bridge album.
And a great album it is too - I recommend it
-
c, you are a genius, thanks for your answer. Been checking out that tune and, yes, it is a good'un. The Chameleons are definately a band I need to get into... so, where's the best place for a newbie like me to start, the 'Script' album or what?
-
Yes, I think I would start with Script of the Bridge, although my current fave is actually the third album Strange Times.
They never got the recognition (I felt) they deserved.
I remember seeing them live at the Warehouse in Leeds and it was so crowded the first three rows were up on stage too! But a great gig...

Brilliant!

The Peel Seesion album got me into the to start with, and also having heard In shreds in nightclubs.
They were a fabulous band, though my wife doesn't agree (which is odd considering her taste in music is pretty much the same as mine)
Script is superb and I have to agree that they noever got the recognition they dersrved. saw thm at the Longest day in nottingham in 2001, which also included our very own NMA. that was a top day out

I finished reading Burgess's autobiography recently, its a good read if you manage to find a copy
