Well that is a very early bit of Christmas cheer.
-
Indeed The Levellers are supporting NMA in Cologne. Here's the official press release:
New Model Army are pleased to announce that for their December 21st show at Cologne Palladium they will be joined by special guests The Levellers.
Said Justin Sullivan “ Cologne is always a special show for New Model Army, this year will be no exception as we are celebrating the release of our new album “Between Dog and Wolf ” and are very excited that we will be joined for the show by The Levellers ”.
-
Oh, bloody crikey, I have a friend near Koln who I could have crashed with (been dying to make the traditional German NMA show for years but never made it for one reason or another) and you lay this on me when I've just been made redundant with little hope of getting another job and are therefore facing imminent skint-ness?
>:(

What an incredible news !!!
Can we expect Vagabonds with Levellers' violin player ?!!!
:D :D

Not if you can't get there it's not, more like very early christmas humbug ;D
Seriously tho' that'll be blinding.

That sounds like a cracking gig.
How much to get to Cologne from the UK (specifically the Midlands)? Fly, Eurostar, drive...? Will have to investigate.

Useful resource for anyone thinking of getting the Eurostar over:

A special day indeed. Getting wed at 1pm that afternoon. Don`t think I`ll get out of the reception though :P
-
anyone got a link to that pic of simon and (i think) jeremy down the front at an army gig in the 80s?
-
Great to know
If I go to Africa for work (after long time unemployment) I will miss the Belrin's gig. So I need to find another one and this one the classical Christmas one with Levellers would be amazing!
-
Ooooooohhhh I really want to do this gig anyone travelling from Lancashire give me ideas of prices to make this doable??? :D
-
You know, I've been thinking about it, and much as I love the Levs, the only thing that would be better is if NMA did a semi-acoustic set, basically being their own support act, like they did last year in Nottingham...
(hint, hint...)
;)

In recent years it's been either Flybe Manchester to Dusseldorf and then get the train direct from the airport train station to Cologne or German Wings Manchester to Cologne. Never usually much on a Saturday if I remember rightly (I think they are mainly aimed at workers/commuters), so you might need to factor in 2 nights accommodation. Flights, reasonably priced if booked in advance and you don't bother with checked in luggage or bothering about picking a specific seat, food and the like.
Cologne is popular at this time due to the Christmas markets, so accommodation isn't the cheapest. Various options around the train station (including the side furthest from the city centre) or a bit further out. Usual chain type places + plenty of independents. Or there's a few hostels that also have private rooms, some en-suite. The public transport is fine, as you'd expect, so no need to worry if you get a cheaper hotel option that's a bit further out. Quite a few use IBIS Messe Duetz just over the river from the train station, but I haven't used that.
We usually don't bother with Paris and just go to Cologne for an extra night. However this time, with Paris being a double nighter, we're doing that and so will be on the train from there to Cologne.

Love the Levellers, and this gig is looking more and more like it's a must attend for me.
Am thinking about going on the Eurostar - anyone recommend (or otherwise) that option?
