Does anyone (Viv??) know the stage times for Manchester?
It seems to be advertised as: "Doors 6.30pm, Curfew 10pm".
I seem to remember it was an early start last time they played at The Ritz. A mate has only gone and decided to get married that afternoon so I'm trying to work out if doing both is possible...

It's a saturday night and these type of venues have clubs afterwards so I would assume that it is indeed an early show. It is, however, the 2nd of September so I my knowledge is scetchy at best. If it's a 22.00 curfew, which seems likely, I would suggest the band would be on stage at 8.15 at the latest.
-
Thanks Viv, suspect you're right. Bugger.
Still, there'll be other weddings to go to...
-
Aw shit, ANOTHER one of these 'get the band playing early so we can **** 'em off before 10pm and get the chavs in' kinda gigs? I still remember the London Astoria a few years back, also on a Saturday, when we got kicked out at 9.30 so they could stick Rachel Stephens (was that her name? S Club 7 bird?) in her big, all-important headlining slot later on...
**** it and **** the Ritz, much as I like that venue. There's gonna be an aftershow party at Grand Central, just around the corner... see you all there?
:D
-
Yes, see you all at The Grand Central afterwards...although bear in mind we are not officially starting until around midnight, finishing around 2 / 2.30am.
-
Looks like we're gonna have a couple of hours to spare... ideas, anyone?

curry curry curry curry curry curry - don't know why but I'd like to meet you all over a meal more than a piss up on the dance floor! I can't dance you see, but I pretty much know how to eat.
I like the idea of a curry meet up x
oops - let me just put those keyboard errors right - bit of a stickler for ligwist sticks x
-
Do both.
-
Also love the idea of a curry, give us chance to soak up some of the booze so we can go at it again... I'm in Manchester quite a lot, so let me look into convenient restaurants and I'll be back to you...
Shame the infamous Curry Mile is a bit too far away...
-
Oh the curry mile. Rusholme. It's been a few years but... OK Sorry, Nostalgia creeping in. I'll get a grip now.
-
There's a good curry house near the town hall but I forget its name. It's highly recommended I believe and only a short walk away....I'll find out its name
-
Rajdoot.
-
I kike the curry idea. A friend used to like the Rajdoot but on the last visit reckons its too pricey and too small portions. Obviously this is second hand and it could have been an isolated one-off bad day (we all have them). Anybody been recently ?
-
Yes. It is quite pricey, compared to curry mile. Last time I went, service wasn't all that either!
-
Curry is always good. We found a good one last time on the curry mile, JC might remember where it was.
-
I seem to recall singing 'Gay Bar, Gay Bar', I think it was called Darbar and it was one of he few still open at that time.
Cheers

Again, The Curry Mile is a bit far on foot from the Ritz, a 40-odd minute walk... shame, as I also know a good place...
I'll keep looking into it...
-
I'm sure if you club together a taxi wouldn't be out of the question and the options are much more tasty in Rusholme. However from experience, post gig, the phrase 'herding cats' does comes to mind.
Cheers

To be honest if you wanted to go from the RItz to Rusholme for a curry at 10:00 and then back to Grand Central for mindnight just get on the bus. There are loads of buses that all go up and down Oxford Road/ Wilmslow Road and they run until 4am. It only takes 10 minutes from Grand Central into Rusholme on the bus.
-
Good point, DannySan, that might be the way to go.
Just to bring something else up, bit awkward, but how receptive are Manchester restaurants to a whole bunch of us 'weirdos' (as they would doubtlesly think of us), all sweaty from the moshpit, probably drunk and deffo hyped up after a surely brilliant NMA gig, descending on their establishment?
Yeah, I know its Manchester (a great city, love it!), but their usual punters, despite being every bit as mental as us lot, have nice and fashionable clothing (plus, lets face it, far more likelihood of kicking off against anyone who looks at them the 'wrong' way but, hey, they look respectable)... and I don't feel like going all the way over to The Curry Mile if we're going to get turned away. I'm guessing there might be 10 - 20 of us, judging by previous posts?
previous experiences, guys?
-
I've never been turned away for any post gig curry, and god knows I've been to a few! I'm not a local but, being a student town, my guess would be it should be fine.
Cheers

I don't think you will have any problems Master Ray, it's all pretty laid back.
-
I agree with JC. We've been out in some proper post gig sweaty states and never been turned down. The place ("gay bar ") last time promised us free food if we weren't delighted. And we were. Curry mile sounds like a plan, especially if there are busses running till 4am. Result !
-
All Rusholme curry eaters will be able to get a bus right back to Grand Central!
-
And what's there to offer for non-curry eaters? Yes sorry, they do exist ... ;-)

I think most curry houses offer an English menu... if they don't, perhaps you can wait outside with a bottle of pop and some crisps? Possibly tied to a lamp-post?
;D
Kidding, mate, just come along, I'm sure we'll sort something out...
-
our first time going to Manchester. any suggestions where to go for pre-gig beers? thanks
-
The nearest places to the Ritz will be Grand Central and The Salisbury on Oxford Road.
If you want to wander round Manchester before hand there are plenty of great pubs around.
The Britons Protection and The Peverill of The Peak are close by as is The Rain Bar.
-
There will be a forthcoming post about a pre-gig meet, I was talking about it with Shush the other day on another thread... keep looking out for it!
Manchester is full of damn good pubs...
-
The curry mile is shit late at night... all the decent places to eat close midnightish, and you're left with shit holes that serve shit out of a freezer to drunk people after that. That is all.

But it looks like an early finish for The NMA gig, the fans are gonna be in Rusholme by about 10.30 so plenty of time to get a decent curry before being back at Grand Central for the aftershow party...

Master Ray...couldn't put it better myself.
