So , Metallica this year are playing Sonisphere and doing a " By Request " set where the fans pick the setlist
If NMA announced a similar Gig where the fans could request the set list , which one track would you request and why?
I'm going to choose…….Ambition, simply because I like it. I left the Bradford Metropolitan district in 86 to go look for an opportunity, which I got, so I guess it resonates a bit with me
-
Now that would be an interesting idea.
Am gonna choose The Cause for the reasons its a brilliant song arguably their first brilliant song. Its a very underrated song in my opinion and doesn't get played often live. It's certainly a song that everyone can relate to.
-
brilliant idea for a thread
someone like jesus since I sat in the dark room with nothing wrong with me

I'd choose Better Than Them, No Greater Love, Western Dream, Family or All of This. The Charge wouldn't be bad either, but I've "seen" it aldready once.
Better Than Them is one of my all time fave's. There is the utmost energy, hope, adamancy, standing on behalf of something and on the other hand aggression. No Greater Love has the same tendency.
Not so many have been talking bout Western Dream but that's a great, great song from GoC. Family's a very important song to me personally. And what a perfect song. It's like a clogg's kick right there to the assholes who may ruin a youngster's self-confidency and a call for people who you can trust. All of This is a similar diamond like Archway Towers.

Great thread! Although I seem to recall Justin, at a gig a few years back, saying something like 'c'mon, you should know by now that if you shout out for songs, we never play them...' ;D
It would be brilliant if it happened. For me... well, I'd love to hear Fireworks Night, but I think Mr Sullivan has said that he would struggle to do that one live, for personal and obvious reasons...
Sod it, I'll go for Brother, never heard that one live...
-
Better than them.
Is, and always have been my favourite NMA song.
Their first acoustic, and with incredible powerful drum work
-
best song to start a gig - flying through the smoke
just know we are off to a brilliant start
-
We're a week away from a new NMA UK tour and nobody's throwing in any new suggestions..?
Sod it, here's one more. I'd love to hear TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN again...
Just in case the band are reading.... ???

If you're talking about 1 song to grab the "non-NMA" festival-goer then I would go for R & R because it sums up a lot of frustration and anger plus it packs a big old punch. This version just nailed the bugger:

But for a personal request I will assume that TIAGD will be in there anyway :) and go for Falling. Cos it's uplifting, one of those redemption songs, and it makes me dance!

Believe It - Never seen it live. Here's hoping next week in Warrington.

No Mans Land or My People.Just because it seems, and probably is ages since they played them. Both great songs
-
Nice shout for No Man's Land there Dilla, can't remember last hearing that one.
:-*

Lights Go Out.
because having seen them dozens of times since Impurity tour I can't remember ever seeing them do it and it's a top tune.

There are few songs that share together same kind of feelings & atmosphere: My People, No Rest, Better Than Them, Stormclouds & My Country. Well, we can hear No Rest at gigs and now Stormclouds too but for the others it would be like winning in a lottery. I don't know why but for some reason people don't seem to shout so much for them. Is it due to strong emotions within the lyrics that might be too provocative or what? I think NMA do not enter to the aggro-side in songs so often anymore these days so the making of Stormclouds is a very welcomed thing for me. My People is a classic too. :)

I'd love to see them play Far Better Thing

I'd love to see them play Far Better Thing
100% Yes. One of my favourite songs ever. Would be very powerful to hear live
-
Smalltown England - one of my favourites - but never played for years for some reason, not even at the 30th gigs. Was the song tbat made NMA click for me way back in the 80s
-
Like Garyah, I'd probably choose Ambition as I can't remember hearing it since the Impurity Tour and it's my joint fave NMA song. After a Manchester Ritz gig (2010 I think) I had the pleasure of chatting to Nelson and I asked him why they didn't play it anymore.....he hummed the bassline and said "is that the one?!" (he was joking or maybe just being typically modest!). For me it's one of their most addictive basslines - vintage Stuart - it gives the song such a great melody. Be amazing to hear it live again.

no mans land and 1984 and shot 18 played back to back,id dance myself stupid for that like ;D ;D
-
Fireworks Night
(Yes, I know they'll probably never play it live, but I live in hope...)
There was a similar thread last year, The Price got mentioned quite a few times. Next thing you know they're playing it at the Xmas shows. Maybe someone is paying attention to this forum... ;)

I've thought hard about it, checked and rechecked what I've heard live, what I've not. I'll settle for Prison, No Pain would have been a close second but I can tick that one off now :D
-
Southwest. I doubt that by request would ever happen though. It's not very NMA like but I wish they would play a couple gigs of all slow, emotive songs.
-
Sunset. Id like to hear Dawn and Red Earth again as hearing them live was what switched me onto them and I think theyre fantastically crafted songs.
-
I'd love to see them play Far Better Thing
100% Yes. One of my favourite songs ever. Would be very powerful to hear live
Thirded! A fantastic tune. They would have to be JS's darkest lyrics. I vaguely remember JS playing that at a RSC gig back in the early 90s but I could be wrong. I will have to go and play that now.
-
I think they should just play all of their songs in a span of how ever many gigs needed.
-
I think I've said this couple of times before here too, but Sunset, Southwest, Brother, Far Better Thing & Refugee. They're all...amazing. I can't actually see Sunset being really different than the other songs. It's like some sort of combination of Autumn, Vagabonds and Better Than Them. If I had to think about what it might lack - it might be MORE loud acoustic guitars and singalong backing vocals -> a bit more 'folky' thing.
And the deep-hearted moment: I think also that if/and when music seems to "lack" something, it means it's already perfect in the state it is. It gives emotions and inspiration about something. Somebody said: "art is perfect about being never perfect"... :)
